View Full Version : when are we going to debates?

I mean actual debates.
When are we going to stop tolerating networks running debates in order to provide entertainment and get ratings? The questioning last night was ridiculous right from the get go. These candidates have got to get together and agree that they're not going to tolerate this kind of nonsense anymore.
There was no attempt to find out any information regarding plans, positions or ideas. It was all about trying to start fights between them.
The candidates really need to start answering those questions by saying, "I'm not going to answer that. Do you have a question about my positions?" Every one of them should answer those ridiculous, baiting questions this way and maybe we'll get an actual debate this election season.
Kasich brought it up after about ten minutes of nonsense. I liked it when he said, "If I were watching this at home, I'd turn it off."
The sad thing is, most people wouldn't turn it off. Some, like me, are hoping that something of substance will come out of it. Sadly, others are actually enjoying it like it's some kind of soap opera.

You bring up a Pandora box of issues.
I would go one step further and ask when are we going to stop tolerating networks controlling elections PERIOD.
They are playing for viewers only and that applies to ALL networks. Now, I understand that is their business but somehow there has to be a way to find a balance and understanding of exactly what they are covering.
The intent is to bring the candidates message to the voters, but they control everything about that deliverance.
I am fully aware of the inherent problems they have as well, but I share your frustration with how these debates and just the general coverage is handled.

CNN's goal was obvious and simple; Make the candidates look bad in the public's eye and at all costs avoid issues the democrats do not want addressed.
After watching how CNN behaved last night and add to it the ongoing "managing/limiting" the number of democratic debates, it does not take much gray matter to figure out the biased intent of the media and the democratic party.
Using the same gray matter, add to the above the repeated and ongoing efforts of the Clinton team and the media to shield her from non structered (hers) situations and personal remake after remake......they are clearly concerned about her ability to stay viable, ability to win the election (if she should get that far which she will not).

Clinton's been propped up so much that she is starting to look like the leaning tower of Pisa......and just as old. Time to allow her to support herself or fall, and get another Dem candidate before it's too late. As it is, I doubt the Dems will turn out on election day. They are worn out from defending Clinton, and Obama too. Republicans have given the Dems enough rope to hang themselves, and it's just a matter of time now.

And the republicans now have, like it or not, a highly visible, capable female.
A feamle that easily eclipses Clinton on any criteria anybody wants to measure on.
She looks one million percent more up to the job than Clinton.
She does not falter and measure lawyerly every word.
She is not a politician and Clinton is a thourobred politician.
She looks folks straight in the eye...Clinton cannot.
The list is endless. So the females have a potential candidate they can take comfort in rallying around.
Fiorina just overwhelmingly depicts how badly Clinton is past her prime (if there ever was one). She needs to drop out and go baby sit for her daughter.

If you are so sure Hillary won't get that far, why are you so obsessed with her?
Last night was the night for the Republican candidates to shine, and all you can post about is Hillary.
Really?

Maybe because Hilary is the perfect joke, parody?

Hmmmmnnnnn let me see how to address without sounding offended.
Ahah, the subject is candidate for president!
Another ahah, Fiorina is a female!!
And again, Clinton is the ONLY other female "contestent".
And Clinton is trying to look (?) and act like a contestent.
I really think some of you folks are willing to try anything to keep from having Fiorina/Clinton comparisons for fear of the obvious result....Fiorina shines as a female candidate while the tarnished Clinton merely fades.
Sometimes the truths in life are indeed difficult!

The Republicans are consistently dumb and non-savvy about media ... who's the genius that decided it was smart to put 11 candidates on the stage and then allow the moderators to start a food fight? I agree with the basic thrust of this thread.
Also, let's be "honest" ... Carly is much prettier to look at and way, way smarter on her feet than Hillary. In addition, the more people hear / see Carly, the higher her numbers go. With Hillary it's the complete opposite.
Watching Hillary on Jimmy Fallon being authentic made me gag by the way ... she is just too phony to watch for any length of time.

Dear Guest: Your observation about CNN attempt to make GOP candidates look bad is true and the reason they continued to pit one GOP candidate against the other. What would one expect from a station that finds it horrific and unthinkable someone would use the "n" word but just blink and deflate when presented with the Planned Parenthood video tapes

Despite CNN's intent and plans one candidate came across quite well.
Carly Fiorina obviously came well prepared and load for bear.
Carly Fiorina doesn't pander to her gender and her answers concerning who would you want on a$10 bill was revealing. She is not pandering to sisterhood nonsense like Hillary Clinton nonsense about equal pay, reproductive rights, etc. But she makes it clear she wants to be president representing all of the people.
Also she was only one of two candidates prepared for more details about foreign policy and how to deal with the likes of Putin.
The more I listen to this candidate the more substance I discover. Let's hope GOP's establishments doesn't try and crowd her out because so far she is showing to be the real deal.
P.S. Be prepared to have her detractors discredit her career HP. Anyone working in a corporation is well aware of th disputes that arise between Board and CEO's . Its plain nonsense and in fact is an indication of how desperate her detractors are becoming.
