View Full Version : Who benefitted most in the debate last night?

While Trump's numbers still show he was favored, he did little or nothing to improve or win over new supporters. As a matter of fact the way CNN played to him provided a distinct advantage....FOR HIM. He did display his usual come out of the box swinging......even before the opposition finished a sentence. He clearly demonstrated he has NO ABILITY to listen. A definite by product of his wealthy lifestyle wher he is most likely rarely challenged. He also displayed a tendency toward being very immature by pouncing anytime he heard something said he disagreed with. I personally think he gained little or nothing from the debate while creating skepticism about his viability.
On the other hand, Carly Fiorina gained mightily. In fact, in my opinion, she out classed every single candidate on the stage. She presented herself as presidential where I do not hink any of the others, including Trump did. She listened well. She was very articulate and prepared. She metered her rebuttals to stay on point and make hers. She handled Trump and his "face" commentary like a master, cutting him off at the knees with accuracy and effect. Fiorina gained more last night than anybody last night. She has provided the women's voting block one who is worthy of being their first female presdient! I predict she will now become an entity to be reckoned with in the days to come.
She most assuredly out classed, out performed and literally and figuatively crushes anything Clinton would like to be viewed as.
Carson, Bush and Rubio worked to hard to show they are worthy of attention. Quality wise they were completely over shadowed by Trump (again) and this time, by Fiorina.
Hats off to Kaisich for calling CNN on the approach they were taking with the debates.
The rest of the field....rank from so-so to they should not have been there.
If there were an election between Fiorina and Clinton this week Clinton would lose.
Hopefully there will be some personal opinions to follow rather than parroting the media or party lines.

Here's the gist from last night, and you heard it here first.
the 2016 Republican ticket will be Trump Fiorina (yes, they will kiss and make up when the time comes)

That is a lot different than being expressed by more democrats as evey day goes by.
It is one thing to be supportive to a fault (if neccessary) of the party. Quite another to remain loyal to a failing candidate. It is not dis-loyal to seek a better candidate within the party......if winning matters more than personal loyalty.

I think Trump's star will lose it's luster in the coming days. The ability to get things done sitting on top of a multi billion $$ empire is very much different than getting it done as a sitting president.
It usually takes a good year or maybe even two before a new president learns what they can and cannot do compared to a wealthy private citizen. What then matters is what the new president does in year 3 and beyond to make things work.
Example? Obama learned....missed his opportunity the first two years with a democratic congress and then went on to do nothing of substance to improve how the govenrment works. He did also learn that he could ignore and side step the constitution with executive orders and just ignoring the laws of the land.
At some point it will become obvious that Trump is saying what many of us want to hear and that is driving his numbers. That will change as the voters then look to who is best to carry out what they heard?

I hope you are not the only one that thinks that. There are going to be a lot of depressed liberals jumping off of roofs, come election night. Regardless of the Republican that wins, I'll be dancing in the street. I'll predict that Billy Clinton will soon be getting his dream, his wife out of the way. :pepper2:

I thought that Trump tanked.
Fiorina did OK but came off as kind of brittle and cold, still a bit defensive.
Bush did a bit better, but still looked like high school.
I think Rubio spoke the best.
Carson seemed to be a bit more relaxed and handled Trump easily.
First time I liked Christie
Kasich is still good, but is like an old shoe. Comfortable but the shine is gone.
Huckabee is still great, but doesn't have a chance
Paul was the worst, and might as well be on the Democrat side.
Cruz looked like he was doing an advertisement one minute and preaching in a church the next.
Walker kind of blended in the background and looked more like VP material.
Personally, I liked Rubio's whole demeanor and responses. If not for his stance on Illegals, I would support him.
Too bad we can't take the best of each and install them in one. BUT, any one of them will be a better president than Hilary would have been. She's gone, but just doesn't know it yet. As it is right now, I doubt the Dems will pull half the voter turn out they are used to on election day. It's just a matter of which Republican candidate will be our choice for the next president.

The winner of the debate last night was definitely Hillary. The Repubs showed they didn't have any solutions and are not in touch with most Americans. Republicans clawing at each other over how best to limit women's health choices. What an embarrassment. Trump is a buffoon and no one takes him seriously. He is entertaining, though, I'll give him that. Kind of like watching Saturday Night Live. If he is the best the Republicans have to offer, it'll be a slam dunk for the Democrats, no matter who they choose in the primary.

Which Republican is next to leave?
I would guess Santorum will be next, followed by Huckabee, Walker, Graham, Pataki, and Cruz.

When you get rcovered, please enlighten us to sample solutions Clinton is proposing. And then spend a few minutes about how she is staying in touch with the people and how is that measured.
At your convenience.

The reason people will vote for Trump is they think he's willing to go to DC, break some china and shake the place up. The rest of the candidates, both R and D, are windup dolls .... they spout out talking points.
Talk is cheap ... we want action.
Don't overanalyze ... it's pretty simple.

All the above designed by CNN and unfortunately sucked in some of the candidates.
I see you are touting the democratic slam dunk and not a Clinton slam dunk....congratulations acknowledging reality.
And we do understand why dems need to keep referring to republican debates as clownish, entertaining and what ever the talking points suggest.
At least the republicans are getting in front of the public, tight wrong or indifferent to allow us all to form opinions.
Too bad the democratic party and Clinton have decided to not do that.....for obvious reasons.

I also hate to admit it, but if she were a man I might see it differently.

According to Google, Fiorina was considered the winner in the debate in every demographic except rural voters, where Trump barely beat her out.

Do you have first hand knowledge that justifies taking this position against her past?
If not I would suggest you do some research on her past and specifically at HP.
There are some executives who are not liked because they did what had to be done to turn a troubled business around. It usually involves the dismissal of many sometimes thousands of people to get the job done. The right thing to do? Absolutely no choice. Popular? It never is. DOing the right thing is never popular, but still gets negative play.
Why she left? Was asked to leave? Here again if you do not have first hand information you are not likely to find the real reason as it is cloaked in a board room envirnment and the news is in fact managed the way the company wants it to play. For all we know she was brought in as a hatchet person to do the job and then by prior agreement the leaving made to look as it played out to make the board look good. And for that she was paid 20 million dollars to leave.
And if all the above does not matter if she was a man, that is just a totally irresponsible position to take. To not vote for the right person because of a self serving prejudice is just stupid and a vote for the opposition.
Man up and do what Carly did....the right thing. You may get an A for honesty but an F for integrity.

Carly's record at HP was a stumbling block for me too as i felt it left her open to attack from the left...however, she did say last night that her old boss took out a full page ad in the NY times saying he was wrong to fire her and it was the board who was wrong. if this is true (easily ascertained) i think there is nothing stopping her from getting ahead....all that said, my personal favorites are still Trump and Carson, who together would make a dream team for our ticket!

Republicans have a great line up this year while dems have no one. Hillary, a liar and loser is out. Bernie is Obama on steroids so to the debate. For the politicians, rubio stood out (don't like his stance on immigration though). Christie was good but can't get past the Obama hug. Huckabee did fairly well and Cruz should have had more time. The non politicians Carly stood out, trump still in there. Carson too meek for me. Hmmm. Maybe a trump\carly ticket

I don't question why she left HP and Lucent, I question why she was there to start with.
The merger with Compaq took a company with a good product (HP) mixed it up with an inferior product and then sunk down to compaq's level rather than elevating compaq. Jobs were outsourced to (I think) India, they refused to stand behind their product.
Lucent? Where is Lucent today? (I know the answer, GONE). Lucent, as I recall was an offshoot of the Bell breakup. IMO, a monkey with a wig could have provided better leadership that Ms. Fiorino. Again they merged downward by taking on vtech, their stock was all over the place.
What would she do as POTUS, outsource Congress to Haiti (sounds good-LOL) and turn off lights in the WH to balance the budget?

I think it is telling when a person bad mouths the out sourcing actions. It tells me there is not a familiarity with why such actions are neccessitated by ever increasing costs here in the USA (for a lot of reasons). The single biggest expense in most income statements is wages/salaries/labor.
And it is pretty ommon knowledge that there are always more people employed than needed....at the shirt/skirt and tie level as well as the blue collar/labor level.
No sense going any further as I am sure that is not what the interest is in...the why that is.
The minority opinion is duly noted!!

I did not watch the entire debate. However from what I did see I really liked Rubio. I know the general consensus is Ben Carson did not fair well. I thought he did a good job and the more I hear from him the more I like him. He is obviously very intelligent and intellectual. I would have no problem what so ever voting for him.
I do think it's time for quite a few candidates to step aside. I think Bush needs to go, I was really disappointed with his lackluster effort and don't' see him raising back up to a credible candidate.
What ever way it goes I'm sure it will be interesting.

Actually, I saw it quite the opposite !
By the way; what is the significance of the "BOOM" ? I always read that as a poster being proud of his smarta@@ remark. You never see that when sone actually has something to say !
Anyway, just watching, and I am not speaking of all of them, there are quite a few who would make fine, honest statesmen (statesman also applies to women) while the Democrats are offering the old time back room politics, so I sure would say they came out pretty good.
Still too many candidates however.

Who benefited from the debate?
It wasn't the audience, for sure. Three hours of liberal media baiting, attempting and succeeding in causing fights between the candidates, totally unrelated to policies and how they would do their job if elected.
Rubio and Fiorina did very well, considering.

By the way, let me ask you a factual type question ...
Do you agree, or disagree, that the mainstream media (NYT, WaPo, NBC, CBS, etc) is heavily slanted to the liberal side?

It is evident that you did not watch the debate(?). If you need a transcript, I am sure you know how to use the Google search engine. Use Google because it is specially formatted for the liberal mindset. While watching it or reading the transcript, count how many times the moderator said something like Trump said this about you, how do you respond?" or "Bush said this, how do you respond?" Most of the questions was about what one candidate said about another. Then come back and give us your comment. When counting, here's a tip: once you run out of fingers and toes, you can use a pencil and make little marks on a piece of paper to indicate each time the moderator asked a baited question. Let me know when you finish, so we can compare notes.
