Garage/estate/yard sales........ thrift shops.... flea markets...... I don't know why those places just call my name. The thrill of the hunt :dontknow:

When I fled Miami for my Adventure Out West, I locked up my house & all possessions and started from scratch with almost everything found at yard sales in Napa CA. It sure was fun. Then did it all over again in Oregon !

Hmmmmmmmmm........... I guess it would be just as much fun to do it again if/when I move to TV :dontknow: It's only stuff.

I love to go to Bargains and Treasures, the local resale shop. They pick up ten loads of things from TV every business day and they do have some dandy Bargains and Treasures. You will love it.

You got that right ConeyIsBabe! But how are you going to cart it all home when all you'll be driving is a tricked-out fancy golf car?

graciegirl, thanks for the Bargains and Treasures suggestion. I'll make a note of that.

Go to Home Depot and rent their 1 ton flatbed truck for $19.95 for 45 minutes.

Cassie & Chuck..... thanks for the tips .... but tkret is just teasing me - cuz I'm still a wannabee 3,000 miles away and dunno when I'll be a TVer :dontknow:

GarageSailing is one of my passions; I even started a topic over in the Feminine Forum called Thrift Shop Shopping to stimulate some interest in sort of a club (carpooling) with lots of responses, so I guess I'm not the only one who loves a bargain ;)

ConeyIslandBabe,
I'm glad you know that I'm just teasing you and filled with the very best intentions. You're a sweetheart and TV will be EVEN better when you arrive as a resident. Stay positive and start planning your visit. ;)

Where is Bargains & Treasures located? Mouse and I would like to check it out when we visit in October. Do you know of any other consignment shops near TV and where they are located ???

There are also three or four consignment shops on 441 just North of TV.

My wife, the bargain hunter, says that the consignment shops, thrift stores and flea markets around TV are priced too high. With the large influx of well heeled retirees looking to furnish their new houses the law of Supply and Demand comes into play.

HB & Mouse,

Ayers consignment shop has some very nice buys also. This is one of the shops that Chuck mentioned just north of TV on 441.

We are coming in for a ten days starting 10-09 and then for two months starting in early January. Will do the Crispers lunch in Oct if it fits in with our week in TV. Hope to sell our house in Norcal next summer and do six months or so in TV annually for a while.

Up north HB and I were named 'king and queen of yard sales.' Not only do we go out every weekend there AND here, we also either participate in community sales or hold our own yard sales for the purpose of fundraising, our own usually for the Revlon Walk/Run for Cancer (in memory of a close childhood friend). My TOTV pic comes from a community event that's a fundraiser for the public library and the volunteer fire department and rescue squad (though not a yard sale per se).

I agree that the consignment shops are good to look at to get ideas; there's another one in Ocala in the same strip mall as Staples; but it's true that their prices are too high. We did a good bit of our furnishing by shopping on www.orlando.craigslist.org and www.ocala.craigslist.org. Not only did we find fabulous furnishings and accessories at awesome prices (MUCH better than at the consignment shops), craigslist now has a 'garage sale' category to find those advertised that are not in the local papers. A great resource!
