Jan, Tony, Please don't put this in another place, There are a lot of us who like to talk about decorating and any thread about decorating always gets moved off this part of the forum. PLUS we are so tired of the political forum....so please?

Anyway. To my villages friends and those about to move here....I'd love to hear what your plans are for colors and style in your new TV home?

I have chosen a lot of white and some colored furniture with a tropical...cottagy, beach feel. Our house up north is warm but kind of formal. Big mirrors and tall ceilings and big chandeliers and lots of dark wood and deep colored velvets.

Just wanted to chat about your ideas and where you will shop. We have brought a number of things with us and also found nice things at Bargains and Treasures, Ikea, and Southern Lifestyles.

Talk to me......girls and guys.

GG, I chose rockwood clay and a deep chocolate for my walls. My ceilings are 14' high so I can get away with those dark colors. I also have loads of windows. The carpets/tile are champagne colored so I went with rich earth colors for the furniture and accessories. Despite these colors, I think our home looks open and airy. We have brown, black, cranberry, and golds in various hues. I know that sounds dark and drab but I don't think it is. Actually, I think we have lots of colors in the house. It's eclectic!!!

My best advice, watch HGTV!! I also will have alot of white and a Beach/Cottage theme, I plan on painting and wallpapering soft shades to blend w/white and beiges,so will use either pales blues, aqua, a little lime or apple green but not on all walls. I plan on also doing some beadboard in places, should be fun(I hope)!!!!!!!!

Yes! I think I'll move this to the "political" forum. After all, that's the forum everybody is forced to read under penalty of death. ;D

Jan. You are an imp! ;)

Tucson, I too have been thinking about white beadboard in front of the halfwall to the kitchen. I will need someone who can do it, because that is beyond our abilities.

Gracie, I think I can do it myself,(probably you as well),just today as I was watching HGTV, I saw that you can get the sheets of beadboard at Lowe's or HomeDepot and attach it to the wall and then apply clear glue to the top of the baseboards,it looked easy.

Graciegirl,

I, too, love decorating! We repainted our home in tropical colors: mocha (for sand) in the living room/dining room, aqua (for sea) in the bedrooms and hallways, and a pale peach (for seashells) in the kitchen, and I really like the colors. I have a leather sectional in a sand color but my wood furniture is dark in every room. I like the richness of dark wood furniture and think it goes well with my tropical decor.

Tucson. I might could glue it, but how about cutting out for electrical recepticals........?

Ouida.......Your home sounds so lovely. We have painted the kitchen and hall in aqua and bought a new chandelier in cream color and we are going to hang the one we took down from the dining area in the hallway to the bathroom in the master suite. Then I want to mirror the end wall to reflect it back. We have a Camellia.

We bought our home here furnished. Yellow couch and floral print club chair, beige rug in living room..........very different from my NY home, which is green and yellow in almost every room. Sailor (my husband), loves the off white walls..... so he does't have to paint..........I can't wait to paint. Love the warm browns and brown/yellows. I have decorated the walls, but must wait for paint.

Shirlee, I have not seen one of the decorated houses here that I didn't love.

HOWEVER, I am such a penny pincher, and part of the fun was coming in under budjet for me.......and don't ask what the budjet is, I don't have one. (The thrill of the search.) Chelsea also has nature colors but I think she said she has orange and brown. So pretty. I love to see how each person makes their home their very own. (Or hear about it)

If/When I purchase a home in TV, I might purchase a furnished CYV. If not, and I purchase an unfurnished home new or old, my favorite style is Thrift Shop Ecclectic.

I don't know what it is ..... but there is something special about an old piece of well made furniture or antique that has been lovingly maintained over the years. My current Oregon Dream Home has a mix of three antique armoires, new beds & bedding, antique dresser, estate sale furniture, nothing matches, everything is very comfortable and I love it

The previous owner who built my house was an artist with decorating taste very similar to mine, cheerful wallpaper, marble bathroom, custom cherry/pine cabinets, colorful tile in other bathroom ....... and I added the hardwood floors throughout. Pics at picturetrail.com and my member name is rosejolie.

Thanks gracie & chuck.... photos really don't depict the awesome beauty all around me inside and outside ;D

It's a tough decision to give it up for a lifestyle. But when the time comes....... I'll know. Anyway, the issue is moot now, cuz my FSBO is off the market 'till next spring.

In the meantime, I still visit the Thrift Shops searching for the perfect treasure. Unlike the 2nd Hand Stores around TV...... in Grants Pass, people are very generous about donating entire estates to the resale shops, and the prices are cheap !!!

I think our wonderful, and I mean that sincerely, hosts placed them in Contractors and Services. That is the reason I was so "bossy" in my subject up above. We TVers love to talk decorating!

If you want a good deal on accent pieces go to Dockside in the Palm Shopping Center. Take 441/27 to Leesburg, and go straight on 27 about 6 blocks. Lots of good deals on art work, patio stuff, and accents to just set on tables. Way better than Bargain and Treasures.

I have purchased some things from Dockside. A couple of wooden plaques with lighthouses and a large decorative plate for a shelf. They are different than Bargains and Treasures, Bargains and Treasures have a lot of decent, not ratty, furniture on consignment. A lot of people come down here with too much stuff or change their style once they get here and call Bargains and Treasures, but Dockside has a lot of new things, some great, some not....IMHO. Always ask them what the "special deal" is at Dockside. They always have a discount going on, but you have to ask.
