We just had a new air conditioner put in and the vents in the ceiling have water dripping from them. Anyone else have this problem? We had the installer come back a couple of times, but he has not solved the problem.

That is interesting. Same size ac unit installed? This water sounds like condensation in the duckwork. I am no expert on ac and will look forward to the correct answer.

We came home recently to water dripping through a light fixture in the ceiling in our foyer. We thought it was a roof leak due to bad rains, but it turned out to be ductwork in the attic that had separated which caused the condensation from the A/C unit to pool up in the attic . So we had Munns come out and redo and replace and repair all of the ruined ductwork. And we have another company coming out to replace all of the ruined insulation. Apparently the ductwork is fairly fragile and if someone has been in the attic and bumped it or whatever it can separate from the junction box and the condensation can pool and start leaking . I would call my air-conditioning company and have them come inspect it.

Oh just saw they have already been out. Strange that they cannot fix it? Were they up in the attic at all during the initial installation of the new unit? Is it leaking through more than one vent? Here's what I would do. I would call one or two other reputable installers for a free estimate to fix it and then at least you will find out if your installer has missed something or what the cause is.

Are you sure this leakage wasn't occurring before? It doesn't sound likely that this was caused by AC replacement. I would guess that the duct insulation on the register box has been compromised allowing the hot attic air to come in contact with the cold metal of the register box. Is this happening in more than one spot?

We had a similar issue when we first moved into our new home 3+ years ago. It was corrected when our A//C company figured out that whoever installed the vents in the ceiling had not done so properly, by not also installing the appropriate gaskets.

Was your duct work recently cleaned? I would be very reluctant to have anyone attempt to clean the inside of the ductwork down here. Other than the supply and return fiberglass plenums the entire air system is fragile flexible lines w supply lines insulated.
