My house backs up t a dead end street. The street is close to my lanai. Some one that I think may be renting, has parked their pickup in the dead end street. I wrote a nice request for them to not permanately park on the street. Not only have they ignored the request, now there are 2 pickup trucks parked there!
So here is my questions....
1. Is this a violation? (Do I have grounds to complain)
2. Who do I complain to? And how do I contact them?
I am rather shocked that they ignored my request and surprised that community watch has done nothing on their own.

It is directly outside my lanai and I feel I live in a parking lot. I hate the view of the back of a truck.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure you have much recourse. The streets in TV's are public roadways. Now, if those trucks are blocking the road, say if an emergency vehicle had to get through, then I would think you have a good case. As the other poster posted, call Community Standards and ask. This is not a Community Watch issue.

Call the police/sheriff in the locale in which you live (using the non-emergency number). They will tell you what can be done, or not. If they can do something they will.

The streets are public. If the truck isn't blocking access for emergency vehicles, the truck can park there indefinitely. It really doesn't matter if the vehicle belongs to renters or frogs. Same rules apply. IMHO.

Three articles below and there have been quite a few threads about street parking previously. Unfortunately those responsible are about as interested in addressing this issue as they are seat saving at the squares. Being respectful of neighbors should cover it but unfortunately that's not the case in some instances..
Good luck and let us know how this works out.....

From a May 2012 article by Diane Tucker, the VCDD's Administrative Operations Manager:
"I also am asked if vehicles are allowed to be parked on the streets. The streets are for public access. If a vehicle is parked on a street and impedes the flow of traffic, is a safety concern or has blocked your driveway or vehicles cannot get around it, call your local law enforcement and they will ask that the vehicle be moved if there is a safety concern.
Again, please be respectful of residents and visitors who travel our neighborhood streets. Park your vehicle in your garage or driveway and
concern of safety will not be an issue. If you have a recreational vehicle (RV), you may park the vehicle in your driveway for a period of 72 hours
for the purpose of preparing the vehicle for travel or upon return."

Angry Important news for villagers-Street Parking
I was recently given a citation by the Sheriffs dept. and will be paying $116 fine.
I was parked in front of my friends house because we were all playing cards in the villages. The neighbor across the street pulled out of his driveway and smashed into my driver's side door. My insurance said to call the police and have the neighbor call their insurance company. The police said the neighbor got a citation for more money that will affect his insurance, but that I was at fault too for parking on the roadway!!! The section is 316.1945.1.a.6 I called the clerk of courts and she told me that if I lost the case, I could be charged $500 plus court costs plus they can sanction my license.
So, do not park in the road in The Villages. You may get a citation if anything happens. I called two lawyers and one said to fight it, and one said they wouldn't. I am not going to fight it. But it is wrong.

Sumter County Sheriff's office ( 352 793-0222 )
Per Brad Arnold, Sumter County Supervisor ( 352 689-4400)
Ordnance, Chapter 17, section 0-29, division 1
No parking in or on any county road or street or right of way in the unincorporated area of Sumter county.
So after reading this, and my neighbor confirmed with the supervisor, anyone parking on a county street in The Villages is subject to a citation.
The reason he made this inquiry of Sumter county is because the Villages doesn't have Jurisdiction any more. We have a neighbor that parks a ratty white pickup truck in front of his house just to annoy people. ( not commercial plates) Also the width of the streets in the neighborhood aren't designed for street parking.
Most people are reasonable and have no problem with with campers and motor homes loading and unloading but to have vehicles parked regularly in the streets would be dangerous and unsightly. One of the main attractions for us was a community with deed restrictions so we don't end up living in a town like we left.
So if we have a problem with someone abusing street parking ( not occasional guests) we can call the Sumter County Sheriff's office to file a complaint.

Maybe the truck is near his lanai and he would rather not look at it all the time. Is the truck near the home of the person that owns it? Maybe they park it there so they do not have to be bothered with it. I say talk to the authorities.

A good friend had a neighbor who parked a Motorhome on the street for weeks at a time. They thought it was "tacky" and was a nuisance. Bottom line---nothing could be done. After about 18 months the neighbor sold the Motorhome.
Unfortunately, some residents don't care if something is "tacky"!

One of the posters quoted a statute that there is no parking on Sumter county roads.
So if you do decide to call the sheriff you could first chalk mark the tire and take a pic with your cell phone showing the date and time and then do so the next day so you have proof that the truck hasn't moved, is long term parked or abandoned.
Just a thought.

If your house is a villa the roads are not public but owned by The Villages. If that is the case Community Watch will take care of it. They did not like how one of my neighbors was parking his extra car and he was forced to move it. If you live on a public street and the truck has not been moved in 20 days the sheriffs department might consider it an abandoned car and tow it.

ask a sheriff's deputy if they would be considered as parking in the middle of a street.

Might even be a fire department or public health access issue. If after exhausting appeals to all possible authorities you might want to find an old beater large vehicle and park it right in front of the offending party's residence to see how he likes the view.

Your post seems to contradict common knowledge on this subject. I'm confused. According to the ordinance you site, everyone is wrong about on street parking. I don't get it. Who is BS-ing who on this subject ?

Why not, some night, just let the air out of all the tires? After the owner has to pump up the tires a couple of times, he may decide to keep it in front of his house or his driveway.

Some get an idea in their head that what they think is correct and want to convince everyone they are right to the death and seat saving and street parking are just two examples. The articles speak to what can happen and has happened to some already. If you have a vehicle parked in the street and there is an accident because someone was swerving out to go around it you will be held liable per the ordinances and any lawyer would have a picnic with it. I would say one had better hope no one is seriously injured because of this type of accident or the liability could take their home if they have insufficient insurance. Insurance could even be an issue if they were considered parked illegally. As stated in one of the articles the Village streets are not engineered and built to accommodate on street parking and if two cars parked directly across from each other it is doubtful there would be room for a vehicle to go between them. Just looking down most any Village street and the absence of cars parked on the street at least in most cases should tell us all a lot about whether cars should be parked on the street or not.
Community standards say an RV vehicle can be parked in your own driveway for 72 hours to load and unload. If it were legal to park it in the street then why would this make any difference just park it in the street for as long as you like.
Then there is the issue of the neighbors concerns but not many seem to care about that too much anymore so no reason to go there.

That's exactly what I would do. Call the sheriff's office, non-emergency # and tell them the trucks have not been moved and you think they might have been stolen... let them come out and check it out. BTW, I don't blame you, I wouldn't want to look at someone's parked truck next to my lanai either. Good luck.

I know exactly what you are talking about. some of the patio homes have the dead end road that backs up to designer or cottage homes back screened decks. We have seem them many times.
Problem is, that the patio homes that have the dead end in front of there home cost more and people buy them just for that reason, to park there extra cars there.
Villas have a wall, but patio homes do not.....and there in lies the problem...
I think the best idea would be to plant some bushes to hide the view.
