Below is information from our local paper which stated that at least X number of Villagers come from the noted state. I started tracking this column several weeks ago and during that time they never showed a number for Florida.

I thought it was interesting and perhaps others would also.

I would think Florida would be pretty high based on looking at the sales map at The Villages sales office and seeing the large majority of sales being from Florida.

Interesting! I wonder why since I'm sure there's got to be at least one or two TV residents that moved in from other areas of Florida.

I'm also surprised that OH and PA beat MI :icon_wink:

Our neighbors although not originally from Florida, moved here from the Tampa area.

That is very interesting indeed. Thanks for posting!!!

Once a year, The Daily Sun does a front page special investigation on the number of residents from each state. Florida is always #1 by far. Just wait for the paper to let you know.

I wonder if all those people are originally from Florida or had moved to another part of Florida from a northern state and then moved to The Villages from that part of Florida.

That is exactly the case with us. Moved to Florida 25 years ago from another state but did not move to The Villages until 2013. I am sure we are listed as having moved here from Florida.

I wonder how many come from Canada (and yes, I do know it isn't a state... yet!)

Moved from Palm Harbor, Florida but parents consider themselves from their high school town of Itasca, Illinois. I see myself as from my high school town of Reno, Nevada even though I have been in Florida now 19 years. That's about 6 years more than I was in Reno, Nevada.

Lots of New Yorkers on that list.

There are thousands of Canucks wintering in The Villages, from every province including British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
The membership in the Canadian "Loonies & Toonies Club" is over 600. :pepper2:

Surprised PA beat OH with MI being close behind OH.

Originally from NY but I count in the CT column.

CT is a good state to be from. :D

Rated worst state to be retired in, re taxes.

Of course most of those were from elsewhere but they moved here from somewhere in Florida.
In my case I moved to Florida in 1953 from Pa. but show that I moved here from Florida.

I moved her from The Philippines, but I am listed as being from my native Massachusetts.

I wonder not just how many are from Canada, but how many from other foreign nations as well. Do you know that we have a Philippines club here?

deceptive, if you moved to Florida for a few months and then closed on a house they consider you from Florida. I have met many people like this but few native floridians

I would not take the Daily Sun count on states for accuracy. It shows only 74 people coming from Texas and I know for a fact that 74 is inaccurate. The newspaper gets their figures from those who have land lines in TV. Most of the ones from TX have cell phones only. It has been requested that the newspaper correct their figures but they refuse to do it.

That sounds like the right number of households.

I moved my family from Ohio to Fla in 1971..44 yrs ago I imagine that's the case with most Floridians

I'm not real surprise because Mich. isn't a lot less but you would think Mich. would be closer to the 5,000 range only because I wonder where all of the Detroit people went since they're under bankruptcy. Besides now Ohio St. doesn't have to bad mouth to many Mich. football fans, just kidding, LOL!

Detroit is making a HUGE comeback. The downtown area is being revitalized, if you could have seen it a few years ago and compare it to today it's amazing. Dan Gilbert, the owner of Quicken Loans is buying up and refurbishing many, many properties, hotels, etc.
By the way...we can still talk about Ohio State :)

I know some of the other formerly busy developments in s Florida are losing retirees to The Villages and at least two spread all the bad news about TV they can but it is just sour grapes. Most people here came from some other state at least originally. We are all different and that is great. It would be so boring otherwise.

I saw somewhere that the average Villager moves 1-2x within TV--so would they count as Florida residents on that move? Could skew the count.

Not deceptive. It's based on your last address. That's where you moved from, not where you were born and raised.

IMHO - It doesn't matter where we came from, but "we are here, in TV".
