I see that The Villages Gourmet Club Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/The-Villages-Gourmet-Club-241103526018764/timeline/) is announcing a new Mexican Restaurant coming to Wildwood.

Hope it's a good one.

I would also love to have a good Mexican restaurant nearby. But alas, according to the Gourmet Club's website, they will only have a beer and wine license, so no really good margaritas.

From the title I initially thought the topic concerned a New Mexican restaurant. Rather, it relates to a new Mexican restaurant. Just as long as the food is fresh, properly prepared, tasty and hot...Ole!

We went last night and we enjoyed it. 1.75 beer and combination dinners are 9.99
We had enchiladas and tacos. Salsa is homemade each morning. We are picky about Mexican food since we are from Texas.

I don't wish to rain on a Mexican parade, but we have had 3 bad experiences at this restaurant. I will give them credit though, their past few health department scores have been very low (unsatisfactory), and it is now a 94. Despite that recent score increase it is 3 strikes and they are out from my perspective.

This is from the referenced Facebook page. A little confusing as to the name:

Now Open. Los Tres Magueyes Mexican Restaurant, 344 Shopping Center Dr., Wildwood, FL. 10.9 mile drive from The Villages. 461-0577. (Mexican) L/D. Opened early October, 2015. It's in the Wildwood Shopping Center where Rita's Oyster Bar and Grill did business, a while back. "The Three Agaves" is it's name. Offering traditional Mexican fare. Combo dinners start at $15. Wine and beer licensed. Happy Hour 2-7 PM. Juan Jaime-Rodriguez and Gloria Rayas-Cervantes, owners.

Green or red? I love it when I am eating at a NM restaurant, the wait person asks that question and someone at the table from out of state gets a blank look on his or her face.

What's confusing is that this post was supposed to be about the new Mexican Restaurant in Wildwood that opened last week and we're getting reviews and opinions about long established restaurants in Spanish Springs and Colony.

We had dinner there tonight and found it to be very good. They have a Grand Opening Special of two combination dinners for $15. Also imported beers, such as my favorite Negra Modelo, for only $1.75 on happy hour. I had a Cheese Chili Relleno, Cheese Enchilada and taco. My BF had Beef Enchilada and Beef Chili Relleno. The rice was excellent. He had beans and rice and liked them both. It is fresh and clean looking inside, the staff is wonderful. They also have a restaurant in Mt. Dora. It is in the Sav-a-Lot shopping plaza. We will be back, and soon.

If you're still referring to the Colony Plaza Mexican restaurant, we had eaten there a couple of times and it was ok; we ate there last week and it will be the last. Had chicken enchiladas and took one bite - no flavor, something didn't taste right; unrolled them - ALL DARK MEAT. I don't mind dark meat in fried chicken, just never had it in enchiladas. Got a Mgr., said sorry they had ran out of white meat; refund? No way. Adios, amigo.

We come from the Washington, DC area where we had excellent Mexican, Spanish, and Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, none near the Villages are any good. We go to Latinos y Mas in Ocala for Spanish and Mexican and Central American food, and we're still looking for an excellent Chinese place. We hoped that Las Tapas in Brownwood would be good, but the tapas were not and the paella had almost no flavor. We find that the drive to Latinos y Mas is worth it when we're in the mood for Spanish or Mexican food.

I really am not a fan of the authentic mexican food. We went to the one in Ocala and I just couldn't find any of my favorites on the menu. I'll stick to the americanized versions we have here. I like the mexican restaurant in Colony and the one in Spanish Springs. I think their food is very good.

Los Tres Magueyes Mexican Restaurant, 344 Shopping Center Dr., Wildwood is our new favorite. We have been there numerous times and taken several couples, who all liked it, and they took other friends. We used to go to the Colony one, but there is always such a wait. This one in Wildwood has delicious food, fairly priced and for those of you that live in the southern end of T.V., it is not that far away.
It is located in the shopping center where Ace Hardware, the post office, etc. are off Main st. in Wildwood. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Haven't visited the new Mexican restaurant in Wildwood, but found one in Pedro this week that we did not know about. Called Rice and Beans BBQ - but the menu is more Mexican. We had tacos and burrito dishes with rice and beans - served hot, tasty, by a friendly wait staff in a clean establishment. Their salsa is very good! They serve beer/wine. If you want to avoid the lines in The Villages - give them a try. SW corner of Hwy 475 and County 42.

My husband noticed this restaurant when he went to the Wildwood post office earlier in the week and we stopped in to Los Magueyes for lunch today. It was very good.

They served fresh tortilla chips and one of the best salsas we have had in a long time. They serve lunch from 11am to 2:30pm and have a special lunch menu. It even includes half orders of items like beef or chicken fajitas and nacho supremes. I veered away from my usual picks and selected the pollo tapatio, a grilled chicken breast with spinach, mushrooms and onions in a great flavored cheese sauce with rice and beans. (It also came with tortillas, but I wasn't sure how to eat this meal using the tortillas). My husband ordered a combination dinner of a burrito, an enchilada and a chile relleno. His came with a small salad with guacamole on the plate and rice and beans. (His barometer of how good a Mexican restaurant is their chile relleno, which was quite good and had a kick to it.) Their menu has a great variety and good prices. We both enjoyed our food, the friendly service and the close proximity to our home in TV.

In earlier posts, it was mentioned that there was no liquor, only beer and wine. I can't confirm this, as we ordered soft drinks, but there was a sign on the table for Margaritas for (I think) $3.99.

We are happy to have found this restaurant and expect to be frequent guests!

The Margaritas are made with wine, but are quite tasty. The food is very good and the beer is reasonable.

Just a short drive from The Villages - and no long wait. Rice and Beans is located at the SW quadrant of 475 and Cty 42 in Summerfield - there's also a sign that says "Pedro" on Cty 42. Nice people, clean establishment, good food, and no long lines. They said the word isn't out in The Villages that they are there - so hop in your car and take a ride out and give them a try. We've never been disappointed. Closed on Monday' https://www.facebook.com/ricebeansbbq/
