Motor temp

Had just taken a ride on a golf cart. From a rental home. Small gas powered motor .was a temperature gauge on a display for speed,millage.battery and motor temp. Was showing 280 to 300 fer. What is a normal motor running temp

Not sure where the speedo installer is picking up temp probe. Air cooled engines have variable temp especially near exhaust.
