Picture this: a two-way road consisting of one car lane each way, and golf cart lanes on the outer edges. I have seen people make left turns by moving into the car lanes, waitng for the oncoming traffic to clear and then turning. I have also seen people make left turns by wating in the golf cart lane (along the outer edge of the road) for car traffic to clear in both directions and then make the left turn. Is one of these two alternatives definitely correct? Preferred? What do you think?

Moving into the car lane (using signals of course) and then waiting for the traffic to clear and then turning left is the preferred way.

If you are in a golf cart give the rightaway to cars or trucks. Don't let them wave you through.
If you are in a car or truck you have the rightaway and don't wave carts ahead of you to cross in front of you.
It is simple if you follow these situations.
In a car don't think you are being friendly by letting a cart go ahead of you. It helps to know who is doing what.

According to The Golf Cart Safety guidelines, you must merge into the car lane before you make your left.
Go to www.districtgov.org/ and click near the bottom left on Golf cart Safety brochure for all the rules. I copied these for my renters and have it in their rental as guidelines. Good suggestions listed above.
