The last several times I have logged into the chatroom--no chatters. Is it permanently closed? Also, will the Summit Landing webcam be working again? Enjoyed both of these so very much. Hope they return.

Soon to be Villager

webdeb,

Chat room is alive and well....normally comes to life after 9pm Eastern time and usually fizzles by 11. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later.

It is available 24x7 just normally active after 9 pm.

Please forgive me for this lack of knowledge but:

What goes on in the chat room and do you have to be a fast typist to keep up?

TK...

Mostly silliness and stream of consciousness conversation; very friendly; NO Politics; stop in one night and check it out.

You don't necessarily have to be a fast typist...better to be a fast reader; the pace can be pretty quick.

Thanks V07. I will check in one night when I have the courage but not tonight. Glad to hear "no politics". Is it considered rude to just sit and "listen" and not participate too much? Especially at the beginning of the learning curve. You folks are a lot brighter than Tkret and I would be holding up the group. But, I will enter the room soon and just listen to the conversation at first. Thank you. This is such a great service.

The chat room is indeed live and well as Ms 07 said. In fact she is one of the first to populate it along with myself and Donna and an assortment of members that have come and gone. Kathie likes to call herself the "room greeter" probably as a result of her training at Walmarts. Stop by and introduce your self around 9 PM. Usage during the summer months is less due to the outdoor activities and will pickup with the fall cool nights coming. The record for number of members chatting at one time is 18 (check with Dicky on this)

Great info Handieman. 18 participants on at one time; wow! but how does one get a word in edgewise? Yes, I guess one of these nights I will have to visit and see it in action; but I'm keeping my mouth shut (fingers off the keyboard).

I have never been in a chatroom in my life.

Of course, I had never been on a board in my life.

I am afraid of the chatroom.

I can't see in the dark.

I have to look sometimes when I type.

I would not be able to type and look at the screen at the same time and then I would not be able to answer anybody and then you would all think I was just being rude and it would just all be too much and I need to stay out of the kitchen

I went to the chat room just to see what it was like, and when I didn't say much, I was called a "lurker" which didn't seem too friendly. Thus I quit the chat room. Seems like a few people dominate the chat room and apparently know each other. I hear more chat rooms are coming so that groups that want to be left alone can isolate themselves. FWIW

Too fast for me... I tried it and couldn't keep up...
No time to 'proof read' what ya write. (Which I mentally need to do).
Have to be a fast reader, AND remember who wrote what.
Hard for me to keep up with just the reading part... :yikes:

Lucko, SO SORRY to here that!!! Please try again, say hi, I will chat with you. PROMISE! I was new in March and I thought everyone was pretty friendly and was not called a lurker when I was just watching! Many peeps "watch" when new. It is fast paced. We try to involve new chatters in the conversation. Many times peeps never say hi or join in when prompted. The meetings at Crispers are a GREAT way to meet this very nice friendly group! We have become friends and always welcome new people to join in the fun! Give it another try!

Hey, Lucko, sorry to hear that. I wouldn't ever do that. Come back, give us another chance. Yes we are kinda nuts in there. You can come in and just watch anytime. Soon you'll be addicted too..

Lucko.

I pride myself on fast reading, but I can't keep up in the chat room. BUT every time I try to just sneak in, every one says HI GRACIE. I say Hi back and just read. Many live there already and have day to day events to share, but I have never felt left out. When I ask a question, people are very quick to explain what has happened or will happen. I even invited myself to a dinner that was being planned last time we were down. No one made us feel anything but welcomed.

Verrry sorry to hear that your first introduction to chat left you with a negative impression. By the way, "Lurker" is not a derogatory term it's just a word used to describe someone who's hanging around. It may seem as if it's a few of us dominating the room but in reality we all chat with whomever is in the room at the time. Folks jump in and folks jump out at will. What you will notice is that some folks type faster than others thus you see input from those "hyper typers" faster and more frequently than someone who types at my pace which kind of looks like this:
__________________________________________________ ______________

Me: Hi All
#1: Hi Punkpup
#2: Hi Punkie
#3: Hi Pup
#4: Hi PP
#5: Woof
#6: Howdy Pup
#7: Long time no see Pup
#8: What's happenin' Punk?
Me: Oh not much, just work
#1: Not that!!! that's a dirty word
#7: No 4 letter words in here pup
#3: I'm so glad I'm done with that. Oh to be retired!!!
#2: When are coming back to TV pup
#7: We'll be in TV for Halloween
#2: How are the Halloween convoy plans coming along?
#5: Anyone decided on what they're going to wear?
Me: Doesn't look like I'll be in TV anytime soon
Etc, Etc, Etc
The more the merrier; the only downside to that is trying to keep up with the reading and then trying to respond lol.
And no, no one minds if you want to lurk.

Honestly....do we really even talk about anything in there??? Just a bunch of friendly folks caring on about 20 different conversations about nothing...could be a script for Seinfeld....
Last night I believe i stated that I was "lost" about 10 times....and everyone just laughed at me!
