I was riding my bike on Cooper Loop, just off of Belle Meade. I was fully in my lane, even a bit closer to the curb than the middle. A yellow golf cart with black trim, occupied by a man and a women were coming in the opposite direction in their lane.

When they got to within 100 feet of me, the driver (he) jerked the cart into my lane, so as to give the impression that he was going to hit me head on. I bristled and grabbed the brakes. He then jerked back into his lane, and they both broke into a loud laugh and went on their way. I mean, this wasn't an accident. It was deliberate....an attempt to frighten me by making it look like they were going to ram me.

Whew! I know there are some strange people mixed into this wonderful community, but that was like high school stuff. They were both in bathing suits, apparently having just come from the Belle Meade swimming pool near the fire station.

I couldn't believe that it was happening.

We just returned from our first visit, and while riding a cart some guy came out of the clubhouse and headed straight at us! You could tell he had been partying quite a bit. Glad you are ok. Sad sometimes out there.

Some people truly are incredible (and not in a good sense). I'm sorry you had to experience such arrogant stupidity. Glad you're okay.

That is really strange. Happy you're OK. I really don't understand people sometimes. Like these idiots and the Buffalo petters! :edit:

Jan that is the worst story....and obviously you know not typical! But insane it was!! Too bad you didn't see their names on the cart....or turn around, follow them and find out where they live....we could all go ride our bikes in their driveway!

Heck, I'd periodically ride by the pool you think they may have come from and see if that golf cart is in the parking lot, see if you recognize the people and report them. Unbelievable story >:( One could have a heart attack having that done to them.

I am with Bryant on this. These jerks need to be stopped. You know the cart...look for it. If you see people in it, bet you could recognize them. I would definately advise the police to be on the lookout for them also. This really is something we all should work on....keeping the villages safe.

I agree Bryant. I think you should find them, Jan.

Jan, I think finding them and reporting them is a good idea too. Not sure what anyone can do to reprimand them, but perhaps something would happen. Maybe you could wait one day with your car and give them a little quid pro quo? (nah, not a good idea, but maybe something to think about).

It's truly unfortunate that finding, liking and moving to TV doesn't mean idiots are excluded. For anyone to do that for fun is truly reprehensible. It's easy to imagine the victim crashing their bike and getting hurt just getting out of the way.

If you see the cart, leave a note. " We saw what you did Get your cart manners in order."

Unless there were other witnesses I do not know what you could do with this incident and reporting it to the police even if you find these people unless they are stupid enough to admit what they did. It would be a he said, they said situation and there are two of them.

If you identify them you might want to post a more detailed description of these people and their golf cart on TOTV so that other TOTVers can look out for these jerks.

Jerks usually continue to act like jerks in my experience. They probably will do this to someone else but hopefully around other witnesses.

Glad you are OK, Jan. Glad that you made a record of it to here on TOTV.

I am soon learning that tv people have a problem here. What if you were injured? Did anyone else seem to notice this incident? If so....come forward. Maybe the identities of these two irresponsible's will be posted here and word of mouth. Check out all carts that match the description, call the Village owners and ask rules of road conduct be enforced.

Thank goodness you are ok and this is an unusual incident. Some people drink too much, even at the pool and then they think they are funny. Unfortunately, they use their humor on others. I hope this gruesome twosome don't do this again but if they do, I hope they are caught. How sad, how very, very sad. Glad you folks are ok. Maybe you should write a letter to the Sun and describe the cart so people who might know them could have a word with them.

Did you call the police? :cop:

One would think that given the age of (most) Villagers this kind of stupid behavior wouldn't exist here. But I guess there will be always seems to be that (small) percentage of idiots in every group. Fortunately no one was hurt. :cus:

Calling the police would have been a gigantic waste of time. What would I have reported? It would be their word against mine. (two to one). They didn't break any criminal laws, just moral laws. Maybe I should have called a minister.

The goof-ball sounded drunk. If he was tearing around the area they might have spotted him and could have given him a DUI.

From what you describe, their changing lanes and heading at you would be considered reckless driving and is a violation of the law. As a retired LEO and Municipal Judge, I would weigh your testimony heavily, why would anyone make up a story like this. If you ID them, report them. I too, am glad you were not injured.

What a relief that neither you nor the idiots were hurt. However, I do agree with those who suggested calling the police, particularly after you've had an opportunity to scope out the Belle Meade pool, NOT confront them yourself, but at least be able to identify the cart. No, it may not be a legal but rather a moral issue, but a few words from someone in a uniform of authority--even if they completely deny the whole incident--might well prevent its happening again. Geez!

6-9-67 Pontiac Grand Prix 1. F16 ZERO. She made a left turn in front of me. I think all motorcycles should come with laser beams mounted on head lights. Press button. Zap!!! They dissappear.

Glad you weren't injured.

You know what I would have done in this instance? Since you were on a bike, it would have been much easier to immediately stop and turn around and follow them to their home. I would than have sat in front of their house, called the police and when the police arrived, filed a complaint against them and then see how hard they laugh. Even if the police didn't do anything, just having them show up at their house would be a real embarrassment for them with the neighbors and then I would write a letter to the Editor stating the facts (because you know they are going to lie to their neighbors).

In this day and age, I find it completely plausible that they would have charged me with "stalking" if I had followed them home. Additionally, if they were of the mind to do what they did, would they have been capable of physical violence on me if I followed them to their house. They clearly demonstrated that they were not in complete control of the faculties. It is natual to "flee" from danger. That's what I did.

You were smart to do so...that probably kept you safe....this is why we should all have walkie talkies with us so we can call in the troops to help when needed...we can all wear our TOTV Tshirts....and ride our bikes in their driveway....

Jan, Unfortunately the world is populated with many moron's. Next time take out your cell phone and take their picture is my suggestion. Maybe golf carts need license plates so idiots can be found
