Thinking about changing out the window treatments to white from what came with the house. I know a lot of people like the shutters, does anyone prefer blinds. If we did do shutters, we would want them on the sliders as well, which would really drive the cost up. Thanks, as usual for any opinions.

We went with Hunter Douglass Shades for everything.

Blinds with 2/3 inch slats is my suggestion. Good luck in your search,

We also have Hunter Douglas and absolutely love them. Ours are the "silhouettes" and we find they let in light while providing privacy. They are also super easy to maintain, and imho, they help to add a touch of class to all the rooms. It all depends on whether you prefer a heavy look or a lighter style, while keeping in perspective your other furniture and furnishings, as well as room size. I'm sure whatever you select will be just right.

We went with shutters including them on our sliding doors. Absolutely love them. When closed they block the light and when open they let in plenty. They are expensive so make sure you like them before going in that direction. We like the ease of sliding the shutter doors open to get to the patio doors.

Why not a combination of both? We have some blinds, some plantation shutters...depends on the room and the effect you are looking for. We used Joys Blinds.

No doubt shutters. 1st home with them, never will have blinds again. Lot nicer look, very easy to clean.

I think they are looking at a different blind then the Venetian Blinds that come with the homes. I agree with you that the blinds that come with the house are difficult to clean and have no style, but there are so many other styles out there that add to the look of your house.

We went with Hunter Douglass Shades for everything.

The cordless pleated shades offer many styles and colors......and purpose like light allowing or room darkening.

Very functional and good looking up or down. The custom ones are a little pricy and I would guess less expensive than shutters.

I like our wood blinds, but am changing the front bedroom alcove to plantation shutters

I think the plantation shutters give you a neat clean look and are so much easier to clean than blinds. However I do not like the look on the patio door. Not sure why - I just don't. I understand your reasoning about the privacy they give. I don't have much decorating style so using the shutters keeps me from having to decide and change window treatments in the bedrooms when I change my comforter. I think blinds alone look a bit plain.

I would go to "Blinds" and Shutters on 466, (next to Bargains and Treasures), to see what is available.

I found the staff to be knowledgeable and easy to work with.
