We are getting ready to drive from Long Island, NY to our home in The Villages. I Know that parts of I-95 were closed due to flooding. Does anybody know if sections are still closed? If so, can anyone suggest an alternate route?

If you Google I05 closures you will be able to find current information.

South Carolina 511 (http://www.sc511.org) will give you all the closings on 95 in South Carolina. It appears there are several. You can contact SCDOT for alternate routes going south. And if you are a AAA member, check with them.

Giving this some more thought, if the route suggested by Village Dreamer works for getting you eventually to I-75, that's the way to go now. If you can wait a few days, do so until I-95 is open all the way through South Carolina. As of this moment, many of the rivers are cresting or soon to crest. Secondary roads that are passable now may be flooded tomorrow. I wouldn't risk driving on any road right now other than I-95 when it does reopen.

Thanks all. I think we will take Dreamers advice.

Totally agree. This is a much more relaxing trip than I-95.

Be sure you get a guaranteed motel reservation somewhere as motel rooms may be a premium as you'll have displaced people, highway and utility contractors and FEMA reps all staying in motels in the flooded areas which extend from southern Virginia to Georgia. There are numerous small locations that experience flooding that didn't make the national news. Alternate routes will have much better availability.

Real time maps show several southbound I95 closures from I20 intersection south. And secondary roads in SC will be filled with truck and worker traffic. As much as I dislike I75 it would probably work better this time

I have been up and down from ny to tv many times on rt I 95 and rt 81/75 ,and rt 81/75 is by far the better, more relaxing trip.
