If I missed it I apologize, but I didn't see anything about a female bartender being taken out in handcuffs from the Las Tapas restaurant in Brownwood. Under cover police took her right from behind the bar. Has anybody read anything on this. They said she was selling meth amphetamine while she was working.

I guess the arrest, if true, answers that question. But the "customers" could be from outside TV---a restaurant in Brownwood is a pretty good place to sell, I doubt the narcotics police are staking out Las Tapas expecting to bust seniors on meth. Maybe some pot for glaucoma or chemotherapy, maybe some oxycodone for chronic pain, but METH????????. Hardly the drug of choice for boomers and older.

I saw those photos as well, GG. Regular meth users develop sores on their faces and what is known as "meth mouth". Their teeth appear "wooden" and they start to lose them. When my son lived with us he served at Arnold Palmers. He worked with many young servers. One of them told Ryan that there are many Villagers who used drugs of many kinds, and not for physical abnormalities. They sell them in the parking spot behind Barnes and Nobles. If you think about it anywhere there is a multitude of people living, there will be a multitude of attitudes regarding drugs. In the Villages alcohol is the drug of choice. Just because it is a legal drug goes not mean it it to be over used like it often is here. :loco:

When I thought about it some more, there can be 20% population under 55, which in high season is over 20,000 people--certainly enough to support a number of drug dealers. Also, there may be younger, unemployed people living at home up north, so they come down for winter with mommy and daddy. If they have a habit, they would need a supplier in TV as well. Then there are the people who work in TV, they might even be in a position to know "safe" places to sell. I guess we're not immune to all the problems in the country, but a least we face them at a reduced rate
Finally, if you know they sell them in a specific parking lot, why doesn't law enforcement know it as well. I would think once the secret is out they would move somewhere else

I remember all the people back in the 60' and 70's who smoked pot, sniffed glue, and shot heroin to name a few drugs. And to everyones surprise, many of those people are alive and maybe not well but living in the Villages. I think it's not just the kids doing the drugs, they learned their behavior somewhere.
Drive around on the MMPs for any period of time and you'll smell skunk and in many cases there are no children around and there arent any skunks nearby either.

Well, at the very least there seems to be a lot of people who know way too much about it. So my question is: With all the different types of pot out there, why would anyone choose one that smells like skunk. Is there a variety that smells like armpit or dog poop? I would think one that smells like flowers or perfume would be better, I'd go for one that smells like a NY strip steak on a grill.

LOL, now that is a good possibility. I didn't know about skunkweed until last year. Pot always smelled like pot to me, but now there appears to be many variations and aromas. I can't imagine any amount of "high" could overcome that smell but what do I know. Before I knew of this, I thought "wow" there sure are alot of skunks in the area. Far removed from the drug scene is a very good thing.

I believe you are misinformed on your statistics.
Marion county has a lot of real estate that isn't The Villages.
There has been one meth lab reported in The Villages in an attic of a woman who had taken in two drifters. A sad situation after her husband died and she had lost perception. It was reported by sharp eyed neighbors and shut down at once. The ONLY murder here involved a daughter involved with the drug culture.

Perhaps the difference is the reporting year, or maybe Marion County Sheriff made some seizures that did not involve the DEA.
Either way, far short of 200 and far short of the most in the state. Tulsa, OK had 939 labs for the national record

The Marion County Sheriff held a 12 week education for the citizens. One session included the drug usage and YES they did say that Marion County had the most Meth Labs in the State of Florida and estimated them to be about 200.
I have no idea where or how some recreational readers of TOTV have greater knowledge of the subject than the Marion County Sheriff's organization. Also, if I am to be referred to please be accurate. I did not say nor imply anything regard the size of the meth activity in The Villages. I did say
It would not be a surprise that The Villages is a major marketing center/potential for these sellers.
Please try to be accurate and not just say what you think but not true. I stand by that statement because of its tight size of 34 square miles of land and population it would be logical that The Village's is a good market for the meth lab's to use as "customers". Wow, a little defensive?
I can't speak for what others posted in response to yours, but I will defend mine.
1) "YES they did say that Marion County had the most Meth Labs in the State of Florida and estimated them to be about 200."
I wasn't there, so I have no idea of what they SAID. What they PUBLISHED, in their 2014 annual report, on page 11, was 31 labs in 2013 and 51 in 2014
2) "I have no idea where or how some recreational readers of TOTV have greater knowledge of the subject than the Marion County Sheriff's organization."
That would be because we read what the Marion County Sheriff's office PUBLISHED. Also from the interactive map of meth labs for every county in the USA provided by the DEA. I don't just make this stuff up on a whim, there are 2 links to the location of the FACTS
3) "I did say
It would not be a surprise that The Villages is a major marketing center/potential for these sellers.
"
If you read my post #16 you will see I agree with you regarding the drug marketing potential in TV
4) "Now that we have that straight please try to be accurate when quoting. Take more time to read and

I agree, so please do so
Please don't take this as harsh, insulting, or rude---it is just a friendly debate in which I am making my points---Unlike the Harvard debating team vs the inmates, I try not to lose.

Not talking about all Meth Labs in USA and never referred to that source. Only the statement from the Marion County Sheriff's Office. I didn't need to be there, I had no doubt you accurately reported what was said. I think we're comparing apples and oranges. They published that the seized 51 meth labs in 2014, the speaker was ESTIMATING about 200. Since I doubt they found all of them (If they had there would be nothing for the "barmaid" to sell), there are likely many more. Is it 200? Is it 52? Is it 5,000? Who knows, that's the nature of an estimate. Is the local Sheriff more likely to make a good estimate than you, I, or the DEA?--probably.
Will the sellers gravitate to an area with buyers?--of course.

In general it doesn't affect TV-but be aware when you're out & about.

Why would you be surprised? Most of us are boomers and many inhaled in their youth. True conservatives who are against Government intrusion into our life's should be in favor of Colorado like laws. Pot is way more less harmful (didn't say harmless) medically and socially (someone stoned doesn't beat their spouse or get into fights) than alcohol and tobacco.

2) skunk cabbage should only be served as an ingredient of skunk soup. That way the aroma becomes the square of the two ingredients.

Looks like the debate is a draw/non-issue, let's have a beer:beer3:
Uh, not quite, Doc. You challenged the OP's stated 200 estimate of EXISTING meth labs with 51 meth lab SEIZURES. You lose. Now, be gracious and congratulate the winner. :BigApplause:

I think the inmates proved that!:1rotfl:
I didn't need to be there, I had no doubt you accurately reported what was said. I think we're comparing apples and oranges. Actually, I challenged the statement that there were 200 meth labs in Marion County, the OP did not mention seizures vs existing. But, if it makes you happy, I concede the debate, but only because I didn't go to Dartmouth:1rotfl:
Now, Do you know where meth first started?
Germany, 1887. But did not get used much until both the US and Japan gave it to combat soldiers. During Vietnam, our soldiers used more meth than the entire world did 20 years earlier
