I keep getting these notices that I am using too much irrigation water. I have a .25 acre lot with drip emitters in the beds. I used 28,000 gals last month is that a lot? I have checked my system and nothing appears to be leaking and I have a rain gauge thing. Anyone with a similar size lot can you tell me what your usage was. Any help gratefully accepted.

That is a lot of water. I used about 3000 gallons per month on irrigation in July, Aug, and Sept. I have the same size lot. July, Aug, and Sept have been very wet and there hasn't been much need for irrigation.

We had the same problem and after several notices I finally called the water department. They sent someone out to do a flow test - no issues there. I could not figure it out. The tech checked our sprinkler settings. I had already done that and thought they were ok, but lo and behold, we had four programs set to go off during the night (when we didn't know the sprinklers were on). The tech said any lightning or power surge can change settings on a sprinkler timer. We had a transformer go out on our street and that was about the time we started having issues.
If you call and request the flow test, ask if Sal can come do it. He got to the bottom of our issue and all is well! Nice guy, too!

You might want to monitor it when it's on. Some in my neighborhood water the storm drain for hour. If your watering the street, time or sprinkler heads need adjusted IMO.

Thanks
I had Jim B something can't find the name just now check when we bought last may and then deans check the system when we got here a few weeks ago and they said it was ok but something must be amiss. Guess I will turn off and run on manual run for awhile and see what happens. The people I bought from always ran it only when they wanted to so maybe the auto system never worked well.

You might have a leak in the system (broken fitting underground), look for the tell tale sign of too much water in an area: dollar weed

Call Jim Baumgartner, I posted his contact on another thread (search irrigation), he is great. Just had him completely redo our entire system, found several problems.

In the months you mention my irrigation usage is ZERO. Mother nature takes care of me.
What I find amazing is that they still bill me $6 per month for 'Irrigation base" even though no water was used....
I would check out the controller for things running in other 'programs'. Even the 'professional' from Massey messed up my controller when they came by for my free evaluation. I had to fix it after I came home from golf...
