I believe the comment was aimed at the more general position of more of the same...i.e. the pig being Bush policy.
However the pre meditated ambiguity that flows over to Palin is as apparent as let's say daylight in the daytime.

McCains remarks were referring to the health care plan she proposed. Hussein's remarks were referring to Palin.
Hahahahaha - I think this is AWESOME! Please please please Obama camp, come up with more quotes like this and you will be sure to lose this election by a landslide!

So it is OK for McCain to use this old old quote, but not Obama? Give me a break! It was his rebuke of Sarahcudda calling herself a pitbull with lipstick! She kills wolves also! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dEDlj3CNmn8

There will be people who take any comment too seriously. Comments made even in jest have a way of backfiring. All to often, the speaker interprets his/her remarks very conservatively, and the listener interprets the remark very liberally. That's the fault of language, especially one so filled with nuances and double-meanings as English.
The same thing has happened on both sides of the table, so one side should not get self-righteous and both have been guilty at one time or another - and will be again and again.
We should be adult enough and smart enough to ignore noise for noise sake.

I really don't think Obama was referring to Palin. The people sitting behind him I think did. They were laughing up a storm. I don't think it was smart of him to use the term, since it was just used in Palin's acceptance speech. It was to easy for detractors to jump on it.

And it accomplished it's intention.... Why would ANYONE want to run for office?

Well that was a SLAM against Obama! It is his middle name....and many people have issues with it as it sounds "too Muslim"....
Barrack Hussein Obama....his father was of Muslim decent...

He is doing it again today. His researchers come up with a neat saying like pigs/lipstick, knowing the Republicans will respond and they have the counter attack ready for him on his so called high ground. There are two dump aspects....one he thinks we believe his high ground position...the second, the Republicans being dumb enough to take the bait.
It's a game...they take turns winning and losing a daily skirmish....we don't get a turn...we just lose because they are burning time and money and we as voters learn nothing.

It's not a slam? It IS his middle name. People often refer to our current President as "Dubya".

I have NEVER heard of anyone other than stout PITA republicans call him that....and they make it sound like a SLAM....perhaps you are just rare.....I am hoping that is the case.....by the way....my middle name is Cecilia.....and it is very rare that anyone calls me that!

Just a comment. I would doubt that anyone will vote for or against anyone because of their middle name. Having said that....it is NOT UNUSUAL at all to call Presidents and candidates with three given names....
Sen Hillary Rodham Clinton
President George Walker Bush
President William Jefferson Clinton
President George Herber Walker Bush
President James Earl Carter,
and so on...we all have heard these and others...
His name is Barrack Hussein Obama.....we americans are sensitive to that name and it was used by a right wing radio host that had the Obama campaign yelling foul...havent heard it much but unless he changes his name...that is it and if he wins, I assume as in the past it will be used at the oath of office.
I cannot imagine anyone ever using this as a reason to support or not support !

1. "Lipstick on pigs" has been a commonly-used description of disingenuous statements for decades.
2. Both of the current candidates have used this statement on several occasions in their campaigns.
3. Anyone who took the time to listen to the way Obama used the statement--which was in the same way that John McCain has used it in the past, by the way--could easily conclude that it was not intended to apply to any person, certainly not Sarah Palin.
4. The country has spent an entire 24-hour news cycle discussing and debating this absolutely meaningless issue.
How about getting back to the issues of health care, fiscal policy, education, the economy...stuff that really IS important?
