I'm sure your vet can set you up with year round flea and tick prevention

When you go outside, fleas can, and often do, hitchhike on you to get into your house, where they happily locate your pet. :highfive:
So, even with an indoor cat, flea protection is a must.

Much press is given to the occasional cat that is taken, but billions of birds and mammals are tortured by cats, many times just for fun.
"Outdoor cats are the leading cause of death among both birds and mammals in the United States, according to a new study, killing 1.4 billion to 3.7*billion birds each year.
The mammalian toll is even higher, concluded researchers from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, ranging from 6.9 billion to 20.7*billion annually."

When you do find fleas in the house make sure you treat your carpets and your fabric covered furniture. My does ger a bath anytime I find a flea and the carpets are treated.

We need Paul Harvey on this accusation. I have used front yard, back yard and around ponds for years and never one flea.

If I recall correctly, fleas like to live in pine straw. We have a cat, got fleas once so far, now we use a flea treatment, as our cat loves going out in the lanai and birdcage. Also, we changes from pine straw to pine bark, not sure if this will help or not.

Jblum, it sounds like you do not like to use continued flea treatments, probably because your cats are indoors. Have you heard of Capstar? They are "one and done" tablets, as opposed to a continuous treatment. You treat once to kill existing fleas. It might be good to have some on hand in case the kitties get out again. (I know from experience they are escape artists.)

Do a Google search on this product, NOT a one and done... This product kills fleas on cats/dog within 24 hours, but specifically recommends Advantage or equal for continual protection. Do some research.
hope this helps.

That's what I meant by one and done. It's a single use, not an ongoing protection. For people whose pets never go outside except by accident, and don't want to continually pump flea killer into their internal systems (it is poison, actually), this would be an option.
So a person's cat gets outside and gets fleas. Capstar takes care of the current fleas. Hopefully cat doesn't get outside again.

Al, here's a wanted poster for a tortuous murdering feline. Enjoy. BTW, you left out lizards in your kill count.

I just love the gooey cat poop I find when working in my flower beds. My main reason for cat control as stringent as I have to be with my dogs.

How do you know it's from cats? Of all the many cats I've had since a child, not one had gooey poop. Ask any of our dogs.:(

And without this predation, would the same number of birds and small mammals have starved to death??? It's similar to hunters and the deer population when their numbers exceed the food supply

I have seen them climb my fence and dig a hole. That is how I know. Don't think too many dogs are coming over the fence. I do like cats bit in their owners home and not my yard.

I can't argue with that. We have a stray that leaves presents in our side yard. I know because I've seen him. They're not gooey, thankfully.

I think you got it wrong. The flea market is for the fleas to buy and sell---humans are not welcome,------- unless they bring their cat
