Manufactured Home

While we are leaning toward the purchase of a site built villa we are also considering some of the nicer manufactured homes because of the price. Would anyone like to share their opinions and especially the drawbacks of buying a manufactured home.

We looked at the same thing and bought a villa. Many well kept manufactured homes but they were older, often quite old and before hurricane standards. Also, we wanted a small lot - low maintenance - little/no grass. That was important to us.

However, there are lots of nice manufactured homes available in TV,
so make your choice and best wishes.

We have a manufactured home and it is quite comfortable. It is quite large and has a double carport and a garage big enough for two golf carts, workshop and laundry. Our street is wonderful and friendly. We did however re-do the kitchen, it looks wonderful.
We found the villas to be a little too close together and the streets too narrow. But no matter what you choose you will find this a wonderful place to live.

I love my manufactured, drywalled, island kitchen, 1480 square foot open vaulted ceiling home. It is on a big corner lot with a private enclosed lanai, huge oak tree, a maple, 2 palms, bird of paradise, gardenias, hibiscus, azalea, cactus, holly, camelia, crepe myrtle plantings, ferns, flowers and more! I replaced the carpet with wood laminate and am very happy with the extra room for company! The patio villas were much smaller, too much alike and too close together for my personal taste. Just my opinion, though. The roof, AC, kitchen cabinets, appliances were all updated and it was tastefully, fully furnished. (1989, no grey pipes) We really lucked out. I searched online daily. Mine was put on market, I flew down the next day from viewing photos online and bought it on the spot. I knew it was my favorite based on what we wanted to spend. I would have preferred a view, the ONLY negative. The Villages are beautiful, so it was not a deciding issue. Hope this helps you to make your personal preferences easier to decide. RR

You rock as the kids say. Your home sounds fabulous. I have heard over and over again just how beautiful the historic side is. Do you find the insurance costs are a little higher, though, for a manufactured rather than a Patio Villa? Sounds lovely.

Insurance started at $650 per yr. 4 yrs ago (we bought 2004 after 3 hurricanes and no damage and now is $1180 (no claims!). Just went up another $200. Highway robbery if you ask me, but no mortgage so it's managable. I have great coverage including hurricane and very low deduct.
