At a luncheon today, heard that R. J. Gators and Up the Creek are closing. Does anyone have knowledge of this? :(

Hope that is just a rumour. Both restaurants have great locations.
My favourite restaurant in TV is "Up the Creek". Sure hope it doesn't close. They seem to be very busy. Gators is a different story. Have found the service there to be a problem.

Wow, I hope this is just a rumor. I like both places. Up The Creek has great food and service and Gator's is a blast to munch on wings and play BuzzTime! Please post if anyone knows this is true.

Gosh, I hope this is just a rumor, also. I love both places. That would make three restaurants, that are right together, closed. Not good!!

We had some really good food at Up the Creek on several occasions, hope this is just a rumor.

Up the Creek is my wife's favorite eatery in The Villages. This is "not good" if true!!!

It's an ever changing landscape. We're due back in TV late next month; I wonder what else will change in six weeks.
We liked Up the Creek; service at RJ's was very slow the two times we went there. Our two favorite in LSL is the one on the water by the lighthouse (Dockside; and the one that stays open 'way late---past the 9PM roll up the streets: Urban Flats . Sure hope that they don't close. (to Mallory: maybe a Noodles place is best!!! Or a Franchesca's)

When my wife and I were down to The Villages for our lifestyle preview visit in July we ate at RJGators. Serve was fine when we were there and the food was pretty good but the place was almost empty.

Sox - You are correct, sir. As you do, we also like The Lighthouse.

Headed north next week to straighten out the Cubs. Let's get our teams to the World Series this year.

Did you join the Chicagoland Club yet? Get info at www.chicagolandclub@aol.com if you haven't. Meeting at Hacienda Hills to watch the Bears game this Sunday.

Mallory---I suppose this is a bump---but, yes, we did join and attended July & August, but nothing this/next month: Illinois and Italy instead.
To keep on topic (a stretch): I'll survey Rome for underlying reasons certain restaurants there continue for generations and generations--and will bring that intelligence back to TOTV in an effort to help retain those establishments we like, such as Noodles (???). (I sent to on off-line e-mail yesterday, I think don't know if that was a successful send.)

Personally I think that when the Red Lobster opens, Up the Creek --- is well --- up the creek.

I must have missed this topic. Where and when is Red Lobster opening?

I always enjoyed sitting on the outside deck at Up the Creek and looking at the water. Peaceful. I generally find restaurants very noisy. The deck was one of the few quiet spots to eat in TV.

Nooooooooo! Hush! Don't say that!
I have my RJ Gator frequent Diner card! No bad rumors! Shhhhhh.

GracieGirl, give it a try. They have a salad with grilled scallops on top that's just deeeelish, and you can sit on the deck by the water with TWO glasses of wine in front of you! I took a picture because that's illegal in Utah. Nobody here would believe it without a picture! LOL
I thought the service was fine. It's mostly local kids, and they're very nice when you talk to them.

I hope it's not true also Judy. I like both of those restaurants very much. :(

right on UUJUDY,
I have also had that scallop salad and it is GREAT.

Their NE clam chowder is very good
as well as the mini burgers they have on the appetizer menu
There's also a 3 shrimp dish that is good

Can't imagine why'd they close unless the corporation is doing poorly as I think they have as much business as any restaurant in the summer and come the snowbird season things should improve greatly.

This is not true. I believe that both facilities are having trouble with staff/staff shortages. The last 2 months have been very hard for restaurants with all the prices going up and this being the "slow" season.

It will be in Buffalo Ridge and should open late 2008 or early 2009. An Olive Garden is coming also.

I sure wish you all would stop saying everything is closing. Who do you hear these rumors from, or are you making them up ?

We don't make them up. We read the signs on the doors that say "CLOSED".

We ate at Up The Creek last night. I'm happy to say they were doing a good business. We, also, had lunch a couple days ago at RJ Gators. They were doing a so-so business. Certainly not packed, but far from empty. I'm hoping that both establishments will be fine. Snow birds are starting to trickle back in. That should help.

Yep, they scream because no one goes to these places and then they raise prices. Go figure!!

Up the Creek is my favorite restaurant in TV. Gators is okay. I think Up the Creek's menu is different enough to stand up against Red Lobster. Red Lobster has increased their prices and decreased their portions the last time I was there. They do have the best biscuits though. I usually fill up on them and could care less about my entree when it arrives. My bad!

As far as R.J. Gators closing is concerned, that is fiction. I am employed there and know that this R.J. Gators is privately owned. Not only is it not closing, they are making plans to serve breakfast on or about October 15th. Please check newspaper for new ad coming out.
