View Full Version : First hand automobile encounter on the MMP this morning!

We have read about and been in discussions about automobiles finding their way onto the MMP.

While on my usual morning constitution heading down hill just about to enter the tunnel by Arnold Palmer's to go under BV blvd. A car pulls along side me, driver in an extreme state of fluster, barely able to speak english wanting to know "how to get out".....head in hands shaking his head. Since he was in a small sedan I sent him through the tunnel, put on head lights, go into Bridgeport rec center parking lot and then onto the street.
More head in hands then on his way. I blocked cart traffic while the scene was in process of clearing.

Unfortunately I did not have the presence of mind to take advantage of a perfect photo op.

When one tries to visualize how a person could do this it begins to cause one to scratch their head. They literally have to drive around those fragile posts that say CARTS ONLY!!!

It is nothing but funny to see the tail lights of a car going into the tunnel.
There was a gathering soon of several golf carts, drivers shaking their hands and all had a good laugh....once the unintended intruder was safely gone.

Yup...saw some poor lady turn onto the MM last week at the Colony Rec Center where they installed the new light. Luckily a nice man caught her quick and had her turn around on the grass and follow him back out to the street. She was in a small SUV and actually gave the "carts only" post a good whack on her way in!! Scary...

If he could barely speak English, he may have thought the "carts only" was "cars only"...

Errors happen. We all can't be perfect.

Well, the engineering study for striping MMPs in district 8 did conclude that
"CENTER STRIPING COULD LEAD TO A HIGHWAY MENTALITY":1rotfl:

When we first moved here and went for our first long golf cart ride and, after a quick glance, saw a post with "carts only" my brain registered "cars only". I avoided that MMP, which lead me into a street..:22yikes:. I can see how it might happen, but not into a tunnel.

He just made a mistake and was upset and embarassed.

Can we all think of at least one thing in our lifes akin to that? I can!

If I've heard it once, I've heard it multiple times this week (and it's only Tuesday) - "They're back". I'm not against them, they really help the economy here for the time they're here, but things do seem ratcheted up a bit.

From your initial post it sure sounds like you did the right thing and helped someone out in need. I'm with you.. I can certainly think of a time or 2 I'd like to take back. So to you sir I say well done.

Saw one turn on MMP at Turtle Mound from St Charles. He had to squeese slowly by the post in the MMP entrance with one wheel on the grass. Scarry!!!

You were very kind...one mistake...." They literally have to drive around those fragile posts that say CARTS ONLY!!!"...there are plenty of places where there are no fragile posts that say carts only to prevent MMP entry...most every entrance to a village for example....

As retirees, I bet most of us have done our share of mindless maneuvering. Thanks for helping him out.

I've encountered two vehicles on the multi-modal path the first one drove me and two other carts off onto the grass because he was coming straight at me in the wee hours of the morning (just before sunrise).

I might suggest that one reason this may happen is that a driver may be so accustom to traveling the multi-modal paths by cart that when s/he is driving a car they simply forget which vehicle their driving. The guy who came directly at me with headlights on was apparently a visitor and staying at the Waterfront I know because when he exited at the Bridgeport gate he headed down Old Mill road and passed me again at a high rate of speed and into the Waterfront parking lot. I wouldn't want to pre-judge but he acted drunk, a second cause

Those white lines wouldn't do anything for that would it.

Might make the drivers of the cars complain that the lanes are too narrow:1rotfl:

Re: They're back"........they are us or at least the majority of us minus a few years. Humans make errors, that's why erasers are on pencils.

The last time I went to Holland I "somehow unknowingly" found myself driving my little rental car on a bicycle path. The people were gracious and helpful though my face turned several different shades of red.
