View Full Version : Dishwasher does not clean dishes
We bought a pre-owned home built in 2008. It has a Quietpower3 dishwasher that does not get the dishes clean. We finally figured out that it is not filling with enough water before it starts each cycle. The fill valve is clean and like new. We talked to GE and they could offer no useful advice. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it.

I had a similar problem when we first bought our home and I was advised to make sure the tap water is hot before starting the dishwasher and believe it or not it solved the problem. Sometimes simple is the solution. Give it a try !

Try a name brand dishwashing liquid not the powder and not the store brand for troubleshooting purposes. Run the dishwasher into the cleaning cycle then open the door and find out if the water that is going all over your dishes is hot as hell...don't get burned. If it is hot run a half gallon of white vinegar thru the rest of this cycle then start a new cycle with the other half gallon of white vinegar. Your house will smell like a humongous salad but this has worked for me in the past. Good Luck.

They have changed the detergent recipes according to an appliance salesman. He told me to use Walmart dishwasher granular detergent...now they come out clean even without running the water hot first. If you have a lack of water though, that's another issue.

First problem it's a GE. Second problem you need to run the water until it is really hot before you turn on the DW. Use all the settings for added heat.
Replace it with something other then GE.

"You have to clean the dishes before they go into the dishwasher. The dishwasher only sanitizes the dishes."
Comment from a dishwasher repair person on why an expensive new dishwasher needed three cycles to clean dirty dishes.

Their quality seems to have declined since moving most of their manufacturing production out of the US. Most of their medical equipment and locomotives are now produced in China. Again cost is up and quality is down.

We have the GE appliances in our house for 8 years now and so far not a problem. The dishwasher has done a great job for us. We have the same dishwasher you do. I would not put a lot of money into repairing it as you can buy a new one for around $375. If yours in bisque however you may have a hard time matching the color if you do buy new.

My kitchen sink is pretty far away from the hot water heater. The water is not hot enough. But my 2nd bathroom is even further away and that's hot enough. Am I missing some newbie solution besides turning up the temp on the hot water heater?
I now wash my dishes pretty good before I put them in the dishwasher. More than I did back home. I'm using Cascade. Is there a better product? I haven't stuck my hand in the middle of the rinse cycle as suggested and I use the hi temp option.
ps
hey OP---thanks for starting this thread

We were having this problem even after getting a new, non-GE dishwasher. Repairman told me that I should use one of the new dishwasher detergents plus rinse agent. So now I use Finish tablets with rinse agent. I can't remember the rest of the name but it is the higher priced stuff and has additional name attached to it that the other types of Finish don't have. He also said to stop cleaning, just knock off the big stuff, the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher since the dishwasher has a sensor that senses the particulates in the water. No particulates means a short wash and rinse. I also run the water until it's hot before starting the dishwasher

All current (last 7 years) dishwashers are supposed to be hooked up to the COLD water supply in your home. The dishwasher heats the water to the correct temperature to clean & disinfect your stuff. Drives me nuts that my wife basically washes the dishes before washing them in the dishwasher. I put them from the table into the dishwasher with the same result....beautiful. Good Luck.
