Enclosing Lanai

Can anyone please recommend who I should contact about enclosing my Lanai? Also, does anyone have pictures of their completed lanai? I just recently had solar shades installed on the Lanai by Blinds and Shutters, do you think I will still be able to keep them? Also, what is the approximate cost of enclosing the lanai, ballpark?

Custom Windows in Leesburg is great. They have a showroom just off of 441 where you can see the different styles of windows and doors. Take 466A east to right on 441 take left at gas station and they are on the right. Yes you can still use your solar shades. I got full length sliders that stack, lightly tinted and full length glass door. You still have the open feeling of a lanai when you want it.

Depends on how you define enclosed. In our area costs have ranged from 4K to 24K. Depending on what you have in mind will also depend on the vendor you use.

See thread about "lanai enclosures" - posted yesterday around 8 pm. We're removing our 2 year old lanai done by Custom Windows because we decided to enlarge the room. It is 15' x 9' and fits 2 designer models and 2 ranch models. All the glass doors, frame, screening, storm door would be included.

By the way, we were very happy with Custom Windows and our next door neighbors recently did theirs using the same company. It's beautiful.

Please first call ARC and if necessary Sumter County to get the necessary approvals. You should do this yourself, and not rely on contractors. Once you understand what will be approved, etc. then you can contact contractors. Also, be careful of advice about people who have done this before, the building codes were revised the end of June 2015. I know first hand, our project was delayed due to new requirements.

We had ours enclosed by White Aluminum in Leesburg, (352) 702-4610. Very happy with the job. Call and ask to have Cliff come out and give you a quote.

We used Bryan Terry for our enclosure. Very happy with the work. Sliders seemed heavier than Custom Windows. Also we were able to reinstall our Cool-la-Roo blinds. They were originally installed by Lowes. Went back to Lowes and had them reinstalled for a reasonable cost.

I think that's wrong....ARC is required for any exterior changes to the house. Not a big deal unless someone has an issue or when you go to sell the house and the buyer does due diligence to insure that everything done was in compliance with existing requirements. It's a risk but if your contractor gets it approved you have the documents and it doesn't cost anything for the approval. Why wouldn't you get the approval?

I just called ARC yesterday about enclosing my lanai. They said, as long as I am not moving/changing the existing structure, only inside work, I do not need their approval. They said the contractor will apply for the necessary permits (not with ARC)

Glad you called. As for the permits, yes let the contractors get these. I talked to the building dept about this, and was informed if YOU get the permits, YOU take on a pile of liability, like making sure everyone is licensed and insured, etc.

Also glad you called....bad assumption on my part, I thought that enclosing the Lanai would always require changing the existing structure in some form.
