I commend the residents of district 8 going against the district 8 supervisors on the subject of side lines on the golf cart path. Yep it is a waste of money. If you have that much left over at the end of the year then reduce the the amenity fee. You just had some left over and wanted to waste it on something. I've seen that many times over the years. You were afraid it would be taken away. I hope the residents remember who the supervisors were that wanted to waste their money. To all other districts listen and learn.

Just to clear up a common misconsecption, the money for District 8 striping would not come from the amenity fees. The cost would be part of District 8's budget and would calcualed as part of the bond maintenance fees payed each year. The only amenity fees would be used for the MMP controlled by the AAC and this portion of the paths are not in District 8.

If you are going to be against something at least get your facts correct.

The mmp is only 1 mile long in district 8.It was a test.The concrete borders were put there for a reason,so people could see the edge of the path so they don't run over the plants we pay for.

Buttonwood is on both sides of St. Charles and people have trouble finding us. Even residents of Buttonwood can pass by Buttonwood Run after dark, I don't believe Pennecamp has one either.

If you go to the "other" news site there is a letter from Victor Ray, one of the District 8 Supervisors. For me is was pretty enlightening as to their reasons for voting this way and also the actual cost. It seems as of there may be considerable amount of misinformation being passed around.

Yep, I would agree that carts should not exceed 20 mph. I am getting passed all the time on the paths because my carts only go 20 mph. Let's setup an inspection process to certify the carts do not exceed 20 mph. You would need a certification sticker on your cart before it could be driven on the MMPs. The carts would have to be recertified each year. This would be funded and ran by the Districts. I am sure this would cost less striping. And while we are at it, let's have vision and driving test as well...

The Sumter Co. Sheriff recently sent a letter to the dealers within Sumter Co letting them know selling carts that can exceed 20 mph is illegal. I have also added additional turn, brake and running lights to my carts. I am doing everything I can to make sure my cart is visable to others and I can see. What I can't control is the other drivers and I want every possible means (including side striping) to keep me safe while traveling on the MMPs. I want to be able to clearly see the edge as I am taking defensive actions from some drunk speeding down the middle of the path because they cannot see the edge. If striping is such a bad idea, let's take them off the streets as well. Let's make it a real free-for-all. Talk about your personal responsibility!

An origanization I loath, the POA has presented a thoughtful and good arguement on why there should be striping. Yes, and this constantly ignored or minimized. They are MULTI MODAL paths. They'll be slippery most of the time, not just at night.

Are there existing slippery stripes? I'd like to perform an experiment with my bike. My brother in law, who is a ride leader with thousands of miles under his belt broke his leg 2 years ago. He had both wheels on a submerged railroad track and the bottom kicked out. He was locked in. I don't think that would happen on a stripe but I would like to try it out. I don't lock in.

Your suggestion about golf cart certification will never fly. There would be significant legal/political hurdles and there are 55,000+ golf carts in The Villages; the logistical issues would be significant. This is a primarily republican community and people will not put up with more regulations in their lives.

District 8 Board of Supervisors have, by a 4 to 1 vote, rescinded their previous vote. The previous vote was to move forward with the installation of striping. By rescinding that vote, striping will not occur.
