View Full Version : Regulations On Where Dogs Can Do Their Business

I'm new to TV and I'd like to know if there are specific regulations concerning where dogs can do their business? For example:

- Are they allowed to use neighbor's lawns?
- How about on a golf course?
- Are they allowed to use islands on cul de sacs?
- Are they permitted to use areas by mail stations?

I'd like to know if TV has written rules and who to go to if they are violated. I have noticed that many people with dogs don't like to walk them on their own property. Instead, they prefer to walk them on the areas mentioned above.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Newbie (9/21/12).

Welcome to TOTV. Dog threads, especially those involving p**p, are always welcome here. Dogs are allowed to do stuff wherever and whenever they wish, so no need to call anyone.

Never on the Morses' front or back yards though.

Lake County has laws about picking up dog poop. You may find similar laws too in the other Counties' legal databases.

The Paradise Lake Park has some laws posted about picking up after your dog but I cannot seem to find these in the local legal databases. They could be State Laws too. Paradise Park is in Lake County on the east side of the bridge over US441/27.

Contrary to one poster dogs are not allowed to do their thing on anyones lawn except their owners...as it should be, but many folks don't mind as long as you clean it up. Be prepared for those who don't like dog urine on their lawn(it is their property and if they use their lawn that urine and residue of feces will track back to their house). The VCDD said you ask the person nicely to keep your animal off your property(take a photo of them if you can)....if they do it again call the VCDD and they will speak to them. If they continue letting the dog go on your lawn you will be fined.

Being considerate and respecting others property is common sense....those who disagree just don't want anyone telling what they can and can not do...I call them liberals....

It’s simple to do. Check your house number. Even or odd?*

If your house number is even…
If your house number ends in an even number, like 532, 4298, or 8266, your dog may do its business anywhere outside on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.*

If your house number is odd…
If your house number ends with an odd number, like 531, 4299, or 8267, your dog may do their business anywhere outside on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

What about Monday?
We all take a break—no dogs allowed outside *on Monday. It is not necessary for a dog to do their business every day.

Dear Barry DC:

As to The Villages regulations and dog's business. First you have to get the dog regular because it pretty much determines certainty. With certainty you can choose the least offending spot for Spot. Believe me when I say it will save you an awfully lot of anxiety.

Welcome to The Villages

The old hippies never liked rules and regulations. Therefore they've taught their dogs:

"If it feels good, do it."

"Private property? No, yours is mine."

Usually better to find out for yourself, but.....

They can drink white paint then pee a stripe, side or center at their discretion
They can run at 21 mph and get cited for being a LSV/ unregistered canine
They can poop anywhere, the bikers really appreciate that
They can weave across the whole path after getting drunk
They can run any and all stop signs
They can run down the middle of a tunnel without headlights
They can break the gates to each Village, especially Bonita
They can pass the really slow carts, subject to #2 above
They can expose their "boobs", unless it is a costume :1rotfl:

Fred, are you sure about that fine busines? Does the VCDD really have the authority to issue fines?
Also, it hardly seems fair for the VCDD to fine the owner of a house, just because a dog pees on his lawn.

to control your dog if you train it properly. It is only an excuse to do otherwise. It is not a dogs fault where it goes to the bathroom...rather it is the owners. Shorten the leash and have the dog walk on the side furthest from the curb...teach it to heel. You have the whole internet and you tube to figure it out.

Well said. Although my dog ownership days are over I have had many in the past. It was not difficult to train them. I even trained a neighbor's dog, at their request, and she was not the brightest bulb in the lamp. I found they all wanted to please and a firm hand on the leash along with praise worked.

I am always amazed at some pet owners that think it is okay to use another persons property for their personal dog use. It is private property. PRIVATE property.

NOBODY sets out to have their dog potty on anyone else's property. If an accident should happen, bags are used to pick it up.

If an individual has an issue with one particular offender than take it up with that person.

Overall, I believe that only an extremely small percentage of folks allow there dog on your or your neighbors property.

If you have seen this, get a picture...post it here.

I have a confession to make. There is a guy who walks his two little dogs on extendable leashes, and we have seen him allow his little dogs to come all the way up our lawn almost to the landscaping. He picks up, but it seemed invasive to us. We were never in a position to say anything to him in a timely manner, though.

Then one day he was walking by with his dogs, and our dog was out on his line, in his cast after having had surgery, and we were sitting out with him. The guy stopped and was very concerned that our dog was hurt and wanted to pet him, etc., etc. He is a very nice man.

Now I don't care if his dogs walk up our yard. Am I a hypocrite or...?

Thank you to all who made constructive comments. One of the things I like about TV is that there are rules. It's what keeps people from painting their houses purple and putting pink flamingos on their lawns. It keeps cars off the golf cart paths (most times) :) and keeps people from throwing their garbage in the streets. I want to know what the rules are so I can obey them. And I want others to obey them too so TV can remain the beautiful place it is for all to enjoy.

Fred 53, you referenced Topspinmo's post. He merely pointed out that the lots in TV are small.
In his defense, he didn't suggest walking them on anyone else's property!
We are all quite aware that private property is off limits.
It has been pointed out many, many, many times on previous dog poop threads.
This topic comes up on a regular basis.
Dog owners insist they are being respectful and not letting their dog trespass on private property.
Dog owners that aren't respectful probably don't care and aren't reading dog poop threads on TOTV!
People who don't care for dogs suspect that all dog owners are nefarious.:popcorn:

Actually, everybody leases their property from the Government. If you don't pay your lease (taxes) it goes back to the Government for someone else to lease. Isn't this a great country or what!

OP, if you just always pick up your dog's "mess", 99% of TV residents could care less where your dog goes----with one exception-----On a hot crowded day at the Squares, many apparently would like for you to leave Fido home in the air conditioned house. There are at least a hundred Threads on this subject if you would like further details (just use the search engine) ---they are especially useful to read if you have trouble sleeping some night. To the OP. We do have guidelines here and rules and several laws. Most of us respect them and some NEVER, EVER, EVER, think about anyone but themselves. Now this could be a narcissistic personality and we should feel sorry for them, or it could be they were just not raised by my family.

It is all debatable. If you are a snowbird and your neighbor allows his dog to go in your yard, don't quarrel with him. Who knows what the SOB will do when you are gone? Most, I say most of the folks who own dogs are just like the folks who raised kids back when most of us were raising kids. Most of them feel a source of pride in their family and expect them to behave in a manner that makes others like them too, in fact they insist on it.

. AND some don't care at all.

To the OP. We do have guidelines here and rules and several laws. Most of us respect them and some NEVER, EVER, EVER, think about anyone but themselves. Now this could be a narcissistic personality and we should feel sorry for them, or it could be they were just not raised by my family.

100% accurate assessment.

And, my usual commentary.....it is unfortunate so much time and energy are devoted to discussing the "few" as though they were the general condition.
It isn't fair to the other 98% of us!

If you sincerely want to know the rules [so many would rather ask forgiveness that ask for permission, you know], you can start with reading your deed restrictions that you were given at closing. And when ready for more rules, you can always reference Village Community Development Districts (http://www.districtgov.org/) for the rest of the rules in the Villages. HTH

This reminds me of a funny jersey shore story. [only meant to be funny--we had the same pride as you did,,Gracie]
When my boys were little and another teachers boys were little we were all invited to spend the day at a Jersey shore house. The department chairman that invited us was our age but he married into wealth including an Avalon shore house a block from the beach.
So little boys being little boys a little while after lunch came running to the moms in the beach chairs and said they have to pee. Well, our hosts did not have kids and the chairman's wife said to go pee in the ocean. She was very classy and could not predict what would happen. The boys protested and the moms said it's fine, go do it, everyone does. They didn't wade into the water. They didn't know any better. They ran down to where the water meets the sand, dropped their trunks and followed orders.
Just the moms laughed.

Most dog owners are responsible and respectful.
It's obvious that a few ignorant dog owners can give the rest of us a bad name. So be it. :sigh:

I just moved in and appreciate this thread. I try very hard to make my dog poo in the gutter so I can pick it up better. I don't want to offend AÑYONE and sure hope I don’t. It's tough to steer her in the right direction but I try. I should carry a plug with me!LOL!

I feel your pain! They can poop if you'll scoop on my lawn. It's only grass not my carpet. :o

Seriously, I've been at Sumter Landing sitting on a waterfront bench and looked down to the sight of some dried up feces. Also walking along one of the streets by the square there as well was some doggie doo doo. Not a sight I appreciated and I'm a dog lover. People be prepared in ANY event of your doggie's needs. Carry a little baggie for those "just in case" times.

Can't we all just get along? :sigh:

As you know, over the years there have been many (too many) dog poop threads. :yuck:
I've never seen a dog poop thread that ended up being fun. :ohdear:
But Tomwed tried his best to inject some humor.

Your neighbors yard is the best place. That way you don't have to pick it up and your neighbor will be your new best friend.

I'd better not be the neighbor or the dog and owner might both get shot
