My wife and I bought a house in The Villages and will retire there in a year or so. We were at Costco this morning up in our pre-retirement house and got talking about the fact that Costco hasn't opened a store nearer to The Villages than Orlando and have read that it is because Costco sees the population of The Villages as being "seasonal". Does anybody have any idea what percentage of the population stays year round vs. what percentage leaves for the summer? I couldn't figure out how that would be determined as I don't think anybody has to register to leave or anything. My wife suggested maybe you could view it was the percentage by which businesses such as restaurants drop in grosses over the summer. Anyway, does anybody know? Just curious.

I'll throw a guess/opinion out..............

North of 466 = 75% Year round residents

North of 466a = 50% Year round residents

South of 466a = 25% Year round residents

I am sure some agency in the district has those percentages. However for simplicity sake let me say that from 2006 until about 2009 you had the place to yourself from May until October. That no longer is the case and now there isn't an appreciable difference any longer...full capacity is evident everywhere

55% year round and 45% snowbirds

A guess or supportable? That's close to the 60/40 figure I have heard.

I had always heard from Villages Sales Agents, around 50%/50%. As far as how they know, I suspect it is based on intent expressed by buyers. Maybe they even keep score.

I feel like in Collier it's 80% residents and 20% sometimers.

I would estimate about 75% year round, 25% seasonal in actuality.

On paper 50/50.

I think that approx. 25% CLAIM full residency for tax reasons.

With the change in traffic, wait times at restaurants and town square attendance it feels like snowbirds are the majority sometimes. Also with the amount of new homes being built south or CR466A I would guess it will seem like snowbird season year round before long. I live here year round and don't do much in TV during snowbird season. I call them cloggers because they clog everything up. :a20:

Sounds like snowbirds often become full timers.

If I remember correctly, the population is about 35% less, from 114,300 to 75,000, (approximate).
