View Full Version : ATT weak signal south of 466A

For the past several months we have had hardly any signal from ATT on our Iphones . It only shows one dot signal strength on our phones which makes it difficult to pull up anything or load web pages. When we are further north we have a very strong signal so this just seems to be a problem south.
We are in Fernandina and wonder if ATT does not have enough towers to handle the new growth.
This is extremely frustrating. Has anyone else noticed this and is there better coverage if we switch to Verizon?

We are South of 466A in Lake Deaton and recently getting around one bar and garbled voice from time to time with AT&T in our house. We have had many complaints from callers about voice quality on both of our smart phones. I believe our signal strength has gotten worse in the past month. When not on our WIFI the data rate is extremely slow.

Verizon has some issues in Hillsborough. They tried a booster but that did not improve the coverage. Supposedly they are working on a solution....yeah right.

Call AT&T and ask for a Microcell box. They should give it to you for no cost.

We suffered lousy cell phone signal in our Fernandina house for our first six months here. Vigorously complained to ATT, got the Microcell at no charge. Have 4-5 bars in the house. That was two years ago. It solved our signal strength problems.

I thought AT&T added two new towers about two years ago in Southern TV. Did this not happen?

If you have AT&T and an iPhone5 or newer, you can turn off Wi-Fi assist, which is now available with IOS 9. Go to SETTINGS, CELLULAR and scroll all the way to the bottom to find it.

If you cell signal is weak, it will switch over and use your Wi-Fi network to make calls.

I am located the Village of Fernandina and have ATT as a provider. A microcell solved our signal problems in the house, cell phone works great.

As noted above in post #8. Google "AT&T wi-fi calling" if you have an iPhone with the iOS 9 software. 2 weeks ago AT&T enabled making calls over your wi-fi since the recent iOS 9 update, if you're in an area with very poor/no service.

AT&T customer service is very responsive and helpful if you need them to walk you through the very simple process of enabling wi-fi calling. I live in Osceola Hills and usually had 1 bar of service or No service inside my house. Now my calls, both sending and receiving, are crystal clear and reliable.

Don't you need an iphone 6 or 6s for that capability?

I believe T Mobile uses ATT towers, does anyone know if microcell equipment is available for T Mobile?

I can only go by what AT&T says. They indicate that AT&T Microcell boxes can be used by AT&T customers. You need to enable each cellphone by going to an AT&T webpage.

My apologies...this is the WRONG setting to turn on Wi-Fi calling. Under SETTINGS go to PHONE and under the CALLS section you will see Wi-Fi calling if you have an iPhone 5c or new. Turn it on.

As far as Wi-Fi assist, which in incorrectly pointed out above, I would recommend not turning on this feature. Basically, if your Wi-Fi signal is weak, this allows your device to switch over to cellular data. This could result in some surprises in the usage of your data allowance.

I use the ATT MicroCell at my home and never have a problem. Always a strong signal.

this is going to be a problem for us because we just got the PAL emergency system, and it is causing problems with our Brighthouse home phone lines. so we were thinking of going with the option of the cell phone unit, but the cell phone company is AT&T. Guess we'll just have to try it out.

I have Verizon, I live in Sanibel. I have TERRIBLE cell phone calls in my house, especially my computer room. Calls drop all the time.

I bought my used ATT Microcell on eBay and it works great. Very easy to connect. I did a search this morning on eBay and they have several listed with current bids from $19.00 to around $45.00. My ATT iPhone stays on five bars constantly with the Microcell and I've never had a problem with calls at all. Well worth the expense!

I live in Sanibel BTW, south of 466A.

There is no reason to buy a Microcell because AT&T will probably give you one for free. Mine was free (south of 466a)

The AT&T Microcell is a great way to go. When the Pennecamp/Buttonwood/Tamarind Grove/St James area was new, we had terrible AT&T service on this part of town. We were told a new tower was coming, but in the interim, the POA arranged for AT&T to provide Microcells at no cost. They worked pretty flawlessly. I have heard that if you contact AT&T you can still get them at no or low cost (and can always sell them on eBay after AT&T adds more towers in the south.)

We live in 'CHARLOTTE' , we had to get the M cell booster fromATT , AFTER A LENGHTY DISCUSSION THEY AGREED to not charge for the device . That was 2 years ago . We have excellent reception . Neighbors have Verizon and have a lot of problems with reception .
