I may be wrong but I think the softub has a system where the water and pump are connected and that is how the water isn't partly heated. They cost so little to run compared to other hot tubs and use 110v. Someone with more expertise could probably explain how this works.

I had a hot tub and the pump has to run for the heater to come on. What your saying does make sense.

What I understand is this, if the hot tub runs on a 110 service, the high speed pumps and heaters work separately. If the hot tub is on a 220 line, both the pumps and heaters can run at the same time.

mine runs on 220 and both run at the same time.....how do you circulate the water through the heater if both are not running at the same time

Thanks. This is what I needed to know. Yes, the hot tub is one of the smaller ones, still a 4 seater, but only 6' X 7'. It is made to run on 110. We thought about the soft tubs, but they have no defined seating that I can see and we liked the lounge seats and regular seats on this one. Also, there are more jets and they seem to be located better. We just wanted something smallish, yet functional. This answers my electric question. Thanks, again.

Ours is 110v, convertible to 220v if needed. The pump and heater run separately. So far, it hasn't been a problem; the water stays at the desired temp even though the heater won't work when the water is circulating.

We're waiting for cooler weather before deciding on 220v. If the water won't stay warm enough, we'll have it installed.

Having been in some 110's, I think you'll find that once the cover is off and the blowers are on, it tends to cool off fairly quickly. Of course, that depends on ambient temperature.

The heater has to have water circulating thru , if not the heater will burn out. The pump can work with or without the heater--this is the same for swimming pools. How do I know ?I had both. And I was an electrical contractor who wired 100's of pools & hot tubs.

Thanks, all. It seems like we will just have to wait and see if it does the job for us or not. I was only concerned, at this point, about the breaker. But it is a 20a and the tub runs on 15a. If we need to have something else done, we always can, I think. Grazie...

My tub works on a 15amp circuit but it is the only thing on the circuit. It is one of the more portable, small size not a in the ground unit.

When I turn mine on it is set to heat the water to a certain degree. I reset mine to heat to a lower temp.

My tub works on a 15amp circuit but it is the only thing on the circuit. It is one of the more portable, small size not a in the ground unit.

You can run the filter (pump) with or without the heater on. When we use our hot tub on a cool evening, it takes about 20 minutes to bring the temperature up to a comfort level. Also, our hot tub spills into our pool, so with the "spa" setting on instead of the "pool", just the spa (hot tub) is heated.

This is an above ground hot tub.Totally different animal. We opted to NOT get a pool this time around. Thanks for responding.
