Athens Closing...

Received this from Athens Restaurant in an email this morning:

It's been an incredible 5 years here in The Villages but it's time to say goodbye. Our lease is coming to an end and we have tried to work with The Villages to renew it. However they have other plans for this space and decided not to renew our lease. Our doors will be closing this Sunday 11/8.

In Spanish Springs square in the same building as Katie Belles on the right hand side of the building. Too Jays is across from it. We took the opportunity this morning to eat breakfast there and wish Chris, family, and the staff best wishes.

This is the second restaurant to close on the square within the last month. Both cited lease agreements as the reason for closing. The new KBs is due to open soon. If you want to Spanish Springs and do a dinner and show at the Sharon, your options are limited. Just sayin'......

The buildings are all owned by the same folks. It is my opinion that they want them ALL rented.


We will see. I bet they will be restaurants again. And that they won't be filled immediately.

We liked their breakfast but the inside was way to small for all the
tables. The outside was nice but all depended on the weather and which
way the wind was blowing near the dumpster.

I don't believe anyone ever went to Katie Belle's for the food.

I agree with you Gracie, I seem to recall from stories a few months ago that the lower floor would be retail.

They must have something planned. I hope they start it very soon. It can't be all irony that the Italian restaurant and Athens are both closing within a month of each other. I'm sad to see them go but I have to admit I'm excited to see what is coming down the pipeline.

My guess is the developer is moving their sales center to the bottom of Katie Belles and taking over the Athens portion also. What else could be below Katie Belles and not be affected by all the noise? The Italian restaurant went out of business because they had terrible food and service! Only my opinion!
