I watched this live interview featuring Bill Clinton. Talk about faint praise... I think he knows Hillary was far more qualified than Mr. Obama. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/bill-clinton-pr.html

Not sure that 1400 women at a rally in Alaska mean "Palin is Failing". However .. interesting viewpoint nevertheless.

I wonder how many attendees there will be at the TV Palin Rally.

I agree that this week's polls are showing Obama has his game back.

I think this is going to be a very close election. The debates will be critical.
I just hope that people will make their decisions based on what they hear and see on the debates, and not on the media spin afterward.

Sarah Palin failing was and is inevitable. The Peter Principal should now be called The Palin Principle. Basically, this is when a person is promoted to a position they cannot handle and is guaranteed failure. It's crystal clear this woman is not ready for this position. I think McCain was a self-serving sexist to put her in this position. He really didn't care if the world liked her or hated her. She was chosen to take the flack off of him. But, I think she was equally at fault for accepting. She shoulda blinked! :icon_wink:

sorta like the media does. When there is a quorum, usually more than two people on a subject they want to high light and one holds up a sign that says so and so is failing...it gets reported and repeated.
Yesterday NBC reported the two rallies in FL; Obama and Palin. They showed the lines in Daytona Beach where it was highlighted that "...some 2500..." tickets were handed out to eager participants. Then they went to The Villages and panned up Canal Street talked about the retirement area Palin was going to have a rally in....however there was no pictures of the lines or the 16,000 tickets handed out. I wouldn't have expected anything different from any of the network news.
They look through a straw at the side of an elephant and see gray. They then proceed to report the whole world is now gray. All the loyal parrots proceed to pass along the world is gray.
About the only news of relevance from the networks is pending bad weather, and they make a scary entertainment production out of that....so one is better off looking out the window.

Strange analogy, but interesting. Why do you suppose the network news is so down on McCain/Palin? It is their job to weed out the truth. You just don't want to hear it! But, like they say, the truth does always will out.

Palin's husband and others have ignored subpoena's served on them as part of the state of Alaska's investigation into the firing of a state official. Palin stated she welcomed the investigation until she teamed up with McBush and she then reversed that position.

Exact same disregard for the law exhibited by Karl Rove and Harriet Miers who have ignored subpoena's from the US Congress. So "change" is following the Bush model???

A "breath of fresh air"?? That's hilarious!

is a real stretch.
Chelsea, the networks are not down on McCain/Palin at all, they are Pelosi like....if it is the other party they are against it. And to give them the credit that it is their job to weed out the truth, while your opinion, is far from their charter. Their charter has absolutely nothing to do with the truth. They will be the first to brag their role is to be first and if it happens to be accurate....all the better. It has been quite commonly known for years the networks are biased.

Truth is truly the end result eventually....it usually comes after all the fluff and what people want to hear is cleared out of the way so we can hear or see it...and in politics.....I look forward to the truth coming out about anything by either party.....politicians have less requirement for truth than the media.

You were allowed to pick up to 4 tickets per person. So, there may have only been 4000 to 5000 people picking up tickets for the Palin rally this Sunday.

I did not see that many people there when I picked up 4 tickets around 9:30 a.m. Friday September 19, 2008.

There were a good number but no where near the crowds I had expected.

We will see tomorrow though. I doubt if they will have the 20,000 they made tickets. This 20,000 tickets made is according to the Villages Daily Sun articles of today.

to the day when you respond to a querry or comment without taking a political shot. I thought for a moment it was your response on truth. The partisan shot included in the answer added no value what so ever.
It must be a challenge to have to weigh everything in terms of political preference.

I find life much more interesting without a constant political slant. That is where one meets more real people. Politics requires too much cameleon like activity for me.....but that is me.

I still look forward to a non political positioning response....one day.....and not necessarily to a post of mine. There are many opportunities.:)

We have a friend who is active in the Republican party in the Winter Haven area. She could have had as many tickets as she wanted. She got 10 and is driving up with 4 others. In the article in the Daily Sun, it appears the Rep. party here had 20,000 tickets. Who knows how many there actually are. If people are coming from all over, this could be a disaster as far as seeing anything goes etc.

Regardless of who the rally is for you would think, considering just the 20K printed here, that it should have been held somewhere like the polo field.

Good luck to all who plan on attending. I'll be in my less than crowded house tuning into the Directv NFL package.

Attempting to get all these folks into Sumter landing could be a disaster.

I think many will go for the novelty of the event. Just because people are attending does not mean they support her. I know people that got tickets and have no intention whatsoever of supporting her. I look at the gaffes of the last week by McCain, and I'm surprised that anyone can support the ticket. Squashing the investigation into Troopergate and constantly continuing with the
"Thanks, but no thanks" lie is a disgrace. I guess she believes that old saying "Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it." I think she will be ruthless in seeking power for powers sake. I do not believe she has the people's best interests at heart, but instead has only the interest of Sarah Palin on her mind.

There a small variances, but the universally known meaning is:

A policy that the United States had the right to treat countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups as terrorists themselves, which was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan and a policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that represented a threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate (used to justify the invasion of Iraq); a policy of supporting democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism; and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.

She didn't have to know it word for word, but she didn't have a clue to what Charles Gibson was talking about. That's just wrong!

The people that are for Obama should study his background and you will know he is a racist in that one of his mentors says never trust whites. Also,
not only is he for partial birth abortion, but he voted to allow infants that survived a bothched abortion to die. Sounds like infantacide to me.

Jimm, Are you a woman?? Would you like to be raped and forced to carry the issue of that rape? Would you like to carry your fathers child?????

I think partial birth abortion should be outlawed. I also do not believe in abortion after the first trimester . I do not believe in abortion for myself and I thank God I never had to be faced with such a terrible choice to make. I know one thing though, if you are a man, how dare you presume to decide what a woman can or can't do with her body in the case of rape or incest.

You said "Remember, the only crimes in which the innocent victims are killed, are rape and incest."
That is so wrong. What about war? Innocent children are killed every day in this country. Innocents are killed worldwide on a daily basis.

I find the reaction to Palin, especially among women, to be very interesting. Many disagree with her position on abortion, some vehemently so. Surprisingly, many seem more incensed by her views than McCain's, which as far as I know are about the same. All I can attribute this to is a perceived betrayal of the "sisterhood." And it almost seems beyond politics in that a lot of theoretical conservatives have taken this view.

And the reaction to Palin among democrats is almost comical. Many seem to have forgotten entirely about McCain and are focusing all their attacks on her. And among the posters here on TOTV, the reaction of the lunatic fringe :rant-rave:is downright inane. There have been literally scores of attack posts from the same cadre, generally with little or no substance. (I really can't swear to all their content as I've quit reading certain people.)

Personally I'm not sure about the wisdom of choosing Palin. Unlike a lot of people (including an insulting number of women), I have no problem with a female Veep or Prez. I have no problem with her being a mother, even of a special needs child. I'm not sure about her views as I've not heard them all and they do (and should) get subjugated to McCain's. I'm not wild about her experience, but then none of the four have the CV I'd prefer. I'll undoubtedly vote for McCain, primarily due to the alternative, but regardless, I'll withhold judgment on Palin for a bit.

Convince ? It is a statement of fact !

Does not mean she would be a better President or even Vice President, but what Gnu is saying is without a doubt a fact !

FACT (noun)

A thing that is indisputably the case.

I'm afraid this statement of Gnu's and yours, for that matter, just doesn't meet the criteria to qualify it as a fact. Nice try!

GNU, :duck: Isn't McCain running for president? :1rotfl: Don't compare apples to oranges or prudes, or do I mean prunes??
Bring on the debates! Sept. 26th we will see who is better qualified and who can fix the mistakes of the BUSH administration.

Four more years of the same OLD,same OLD, is not what this YOUNG country needs.
Remember, it is Obama vs. McCain !!!!!!
Ronda my dear, isn't Congress controlled by theDemocrats?
Who last time I looked had a lower rating in polls than Bush.

Bucco, Yes, I started this thread. I also realize that I sometimes veer off when others make comments that are incorrect. Palin is not running for president. Thank goodness, because I despise her.

Muncle, you are right, she is not a part of 'the sisterhood'.

Gnu, I also respect every man and woman that ever served our country. THANK YOU!

EVERYONE, I agree to disagree.

I will watch the debates. When I come back here, I will keep it short and sweet. I will spend more time enjoying life. I will also be on different political forums where our young people have great ideas and thoughts. The polls don't show their voice. They believe the world will look at us as a diverse multicultural country, without racism, with love and concern of all our people and others throughout the world. Obama is a peaceful, concerned, educated breath of fresh air that will bring the world closer to a peaceful existance. The young folks use cell phones which are not included in polls. Check what the young folks are saying out there in cyberspace, you may learn something. If not things do not change, this country will continue in a downward spiral. OK, I'm done rambling. I'll be back after the 26th!

Wow! We all have the right to our opinions. So here's mine. This is one of the most twisted statements I've heard in a long time. If you are a man, well I believe that NO men should have a vote or a say on what a woman does with her body. And if you are a woman, shame on you! :swear:

It's just wrong on so many levels, I wouldn't know where to start.

You must think that you own your body but you are wrong. God lets you
use it but all things belong to Him and killing another person(born or unborn)
just because it is incovenient is totally wrong. Just because the supreme court legalized abortion it is still against God's law. Slavery was also allowed
in this country and I guess you agree that a master can do anything with his
slaves since it was allowed and no one should tell him what he can do with his own slaves.

Hey.....I'm pro-choice- In the Bedroom.

I do not want to get off topic, so I won't go down that road long. In this day and age there are so many ways NOT to get pregnant. Once you do, you made your choice.

With about 4000 abortions per day, the "rape and incest" argument has to apply in a very small percentage.....far more abortions done out of "taking care of a problem"........done by a greedy industry who cares little about the emotional damage done to the women afterwards.

“So Sambo beat the bitch!”

This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

Did someone say racist?

I have read through this post and am shocked by the vitriol displayed at Gov. Palin. It is one thing to disagree with someone's position on the issues, but how can anyone say that they "despise" her? What has she ever done to deserve this? I am not a great admirer of President Clinton, but would sure love to play a round of golf with him. I have admiration for Sen. Obama, however I think he would be a disaster as President, and have every intention of voting for John McCain. Oh, I have nothing against Sen. Biden, as I don’t know much about him. All I am saying is that this discussion is best kept civil.

Palin: "To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House."

Palin actually slashed funding for schools for special needs kids by 62%.

Palin: "I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, we'd build it ourselves."

Just to reiterate what others have said: Congress' requirement that funds be spent on that bridge (aka the 'earmark') were removed before Sarah Palin became governor. She was therefore in no position to tell Congress anything about the bridge, one way or the other. During her campaign, she said she supported funding for the bridge. Later, she accepted the money -- now not restricted by an earmark -- and used it for other infrastructure projects. In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.
"People are learning that she pandered to us by saying, I'm for this' ... and then when she found it was politically advantageous for her nationally, abruptly changed position.

Palin: "America needs more energy ... our opponent is against producing it."

No -- he plans to develop a lot more energy than John McCain does. It's just that a lot of it is renewable, not carbon-based. Moreover, Obama hasn't skipped the last eight votes on renewable energy.

Palin: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes ... raise payroll taxes ... raise investment income taxes ... raise the death tax ... raise business taxes ... and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.

Well, it all depends whose taxes go up, doesn't it? Most Americans will pay less in taxes under Obama's plan than under McCain's. So they might well be better off.

Junglejim, check your facts on racism. Go to Snopes.com.
Why don't you recognize the fact that BHO is a good talker, offers nothing and is NOTHING but an empty suit.
As the saying goes, empty barrels make the most noise. BHO fits the picture.

It isn't better than a third Clinton term. Whethere or not one liked Bill Clinton, the US economy was in a helluva lot better shape then (remember we actually had a "surplus") than it is now after 8 years of Bushenomics.

Well, talking about bringing the world to a "peaceful existence" , referrring to Sen Obama as "peaceful" and then immediately DESPISING somebody strikes me as quite a contradiction. But just my opinion which means you will disagree....guess that is how it goes. I dont use words like DESPISE....HATE, etc....and find it rather funny that someone advocating "peace" would have that strong of hatred...quite strange ! But then, a review of the posts on here concerning Gov Palin are pretty much hate filled !

How anyone could HATE somebody they dont even know and only know what the bloggers tell them simply amazes me. I will not vote for Sen Obama but I dont despise or hate him !

Bucco ... I do find it a bit confusing ... "a peaceful existence" and "I despise her" just don't seem to follow the same train of thought.

Well then...I guess that is why we should vote for Obama....so we can stop hating everyone when we are in our more peaceful existance....now we are all just mean and nasty to everyone.....especially poor Sara P.

I think there has been a lot of nasty talk about Palin and McCain....but I also know that Obama has been slammed around the room MANY times!!!

Yep 16,000 tickets to see her, Yep to see her read from a speech that the RNC wants you to hear. The same as any candidate will do.. i will bet you a lifes pay, that if Biden or Obama or McCain or Hillary or anyone that was trying to get into office was to show up here you would get the same result. Heck if GW was to show, you would have the same deal, even as bad as he is people would show up just stand there and here nothing.. But then i guess you would say that he isnt failing either? Just get to he jist of things, who is the better deal. besides how many more times are they going to use the, He (McCain) was a POW and that means he will be the best Commander In Chief we could have. We need to worry more about how will lead our ECONOMY back to the top, not waste more money in IRAQ. Besides although he has the Title Commander in Chief, doesnt mean that is what he does. That is what the Joint Chiefs are for.. Remeber Powell and the Stormin Norman. i served under them in the first Gulf War. Those are the leaders in charge of the Military. I am a Reg Rep, but actually believe i will vote for Obama, since McCain picked Sara. had he picked Mitt to run, they would have my vote. But to pick Sara only because Obama didnt pick Hillary is a slap in the face. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to see that.

Star...I don't know you...nor at this point do I care to know you. But atleast other people on this forum or TOTV just give their opinions. Everyone is on here because they want to be...whether they agree with each other or not. Even Bucco and I still can have conversation...real words when we disagree. If you have something to say to me please just say it....

Say it, move on and GROW UP!! I though this was a group of adults! Perhaps you are lost....perhaps you want the webkinz website where in the chat room you can repeat the same sentence over and over again!

PS....I have read your other posts...and while I did not agree with them....I decided that instead of posting back...I would just move on....why don't you do the same. Instead of being rude, insensitive and immature.

BHO's energy plan is to keep your tires inflated!!! He is against drilling and wants to keep 2000 acres in Alaska pristine for the moose. Terrific.

One of the first things BHO will do, if elected, is raise taxes on small businesses who employ more people than any other type of businesses.

Every year the Democrats run against an incumbent Republican, they say were in the worst recession since the Great Depression. This is blatantly false as anyone that checks the facts will find out.

The Democrats will soon bring up claim that the Republicans will do away with Social Security as they always bring up during the presidential election year just to scare the senior citizens.

Just remember the Villages is not the real world. It is a carefully engineered community with one paper, one TV station and one radio station that keeps the masses under control with pretty surroundings that impress everyone coming here. Check out surrounding newspapers in the area and you will see the Daily Sun is not reflecting the news of our world. It is orchestrated to encourage you to think the way the Morse's think. But they are not middle class people like we are. They are the elite that even can bring presidents and vp hopefuls to come and woo the common folks here. If you make over $250K a year the Republicans are your party. If not, what do they do for you? Ever seen a balanced report on anything political? Not even Doonsberry is allowed in the newspaper!

I think if you read through past posts in the TOTV you will realize most of the people posting here are very aware of the limited scope of the Sun Times and do not rely on it for the hard news in the world and that the developer is EXTREMELY Republican. Yep, class warfare. That's the way to go. Come on -- you're using the DNC talking points. Think for yourself.

That's how Socialism takes over. Move to EU for that mess. I still believe in liberty and the US Constitution.
