We are getting exciting about coming to the villages from Jan to March. (oh no not more golfers)..Yes indeed.

I have doing some reading about the tee times and I think I understand the system but have some questions.

1. I have been using AOL for the past 6 years while vacationning in Florida and was wondering if there are access numbers for AOL in the Villages. Does anyone use AOL now.

2. If I wanted to use the computer I understand that I have to go to villages.net and buy a six month membership in order to book online.

3. It was mentionned that if you had comcast(i think) that you got this free. Does anyone know if you can subscribe to comcast for 3 months?

4..If I want to establish a handicap can I bring my handicap card from my home course here or do I have to play 20 rounds at the villages?

5. When I arrive do I have to go with the owner to get my guest id,pin number and password or is there a better way.

I appreciate any help and I am sure I will have more questions as the time nears.

thanks

LOL Douga, I don't know the answers to any of those questions but do hope you find that there are other wonderful things to do as well as golf. I think you are my husbands twin separated at birth!

Welcome and have a good time.

If the home you're renting does not have comcast you can subscribe for a three month period, then cancel without penalty. If you have comcast you are entitled to the villages.net connecton at no charge. When you contact Villages.net you have to show evidence of comcast subscription, so it takes a few days to set everything up.
I'm not sure about golf handicap, but can't you go anywhere with your cards and transfer your handicap? Why not here?

Good luck!
ps: are you prepared to become distracted from nonstop golf by all the other incredible stuff here?

I still use AOL, so I can help with your first 2 questions:

1. Open AOL. Go to Help. Go to AOL Access Phone Numbers. Follow the instructions. I picked 2 numbers, one for Lady Lake and the other one for Wildwood. You can name the access numbers "Villages Rental" or something like that, and save it so it shows up in the drop-down access menu on your sign-on screen. One thing you definitely want to check is what kind of plan you have with AOL. If you upgraded to high speed cable internet, you might only have 10 hours/month of dial-up. After that they charge you an additional fee for each hour of dial-up connection. Check your plan with AOL.

2. You don't have to buy a 6 month membership with the villages.net in order to book tee times online. You can buy only a month for $15, or at least that's the way it was last December. Their office is located in Lake Sumter Landing. They'll sign you up in a jiffy and give you all the information you need to configure your computer to work with it.

I can't help with your other questions, but the good folks here at TOTV will know the answers! One thing I know for sure... You're in for the time of your life! :pepper2:

If you have a laptop with WiFi capabilities, you can access the internet at many local establishments. Public libraries also have free WiFi access, you just need to ask for their passcode. Once you are on the internet, just type in http://www.aol.com and you will get the aol home page. You can log in and check your e-mail and everything. You will need to remember your user name and password. No need to use dial up if you can access high speed.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I don't know enough about getting comcast so guess I will stick with AOL for the three months and pay the fee to be able to book online. Probably more expensive but until I learn more about the Villages I guess I will stay with the safe way.
If anyone has any advice I would be glad to hear from you.
thanks again to everyone
