Last night we sat outside after the Parrothead meeting and chatted with friends. Steve and I came home with itchy, huge red bumps. We bathed with Aveeno, put on hydrocortisone, took and applied benydryl, wiped with alcohol, used Caladryl, witch hazel and a couple of other skin thingys...Still going crazy. Allegedly the bites were from no seeums...quite possible because we didn't see or feel um. Ice works for a very short time. Any suggestions???:22yikes:

This is one of those crazy Internet solutions but when I had multiple bites I was desperate myself. Try blowing hot air from your hair dryer on the bites just until your skin begins to get warm. Be very careful not to burn the skin. I was astounded at how well this worked for me. It bought me hours of relief each time I did it. There was no drug store solution that worked as well for me. I found this solution on the Internet and I'm just passing it along. Again, be careful and cautious with trying this so you don't burn the area.

Jack Daniels works pretty well. A quart between the two of you should be enough.
Lightly dampen a small cotton ball with it. That is enough to rub on both of you. It is very important that you not use more than a very small amount for this step.
Then the drink the rest. After a short while, you won't notice the bites at all.

Do we have no seeums here in The Villages? I knew they were in Sanibel Island but wasn't aware they were here.

I am the most itchy person in The Villages, or in the top ten.

This works for me.

Sarna anti-itch lotion.

I have a dispenser in every room. It smells kinda like Ben-Gay, but hey....

And yes I do bathe.

I am a magnet for these little critters as well as any other biting insects. It is in my DNA so to speak. I can't sit outside in shorts and not bet bit. It mostly happens around sunset. I have not found anything that helps the itching but I will try the hair dryer solution the next time it happens which is most likely tonight. LOL

My Mom used Asorbine Junior on red ant bite. Takes out the swelling, itchiness and redness. I don't know if it would help anything else.

I'd add an oral antihistamine to the list. Benadryl (dyphenhydramine) works well, but makes some people very sleepy. Claritin (loratidine) is also good, and does not make you sleepy.

IMO, the generics are every bit as good as the name brand. HTH!

I was just about to post about noseeums as my feet and legs have numerous bites. It takes a couple of weeks for them to go away. These almost invisible little critters just LOVE me (as well as mosquitos). However, the hair dryer hint really works for me on insect bites.
The previous poster seemed real concerned about burning one's skin with the dryer. Me....I let it get as hot as I can stand it (The skin should become uncomfortably hot, but not anywhere near being burned) Simply hold the hair dryer 6 or so inches from the itchy spot, and turn it on high, and I leave it for 20-30 seconds. You can adjust the distance if it feels too hot. Unlike scratching, the heat does not damage the skin. Heat releases histamine from the body, and this can stall the itchy histamine response for hours.
What I would like is to find a product to put on my skin so I don't get bitten in the first place, one that doesn't smell like a medicine chest.
Note....I have been here for 3 years, and this is the first time I have had a problem with noseeums!

Trish best thing to do is jump in a plane to MI, stay about 10 days.

When you return they're be gone

Seems like I heard Vinegar works but cannot confirm by experience.

Vinegar helped me but I smelled like a salad. I kept the vinegar in the fridge and applied as needed.

Yes, vinegar does work, but it's temporary relief maybe half an hour or so. Drench your legs with vinegar as often as needed. I hate to tell you this but those bites can burn & itch for two weeks. Try not to scratch your legs as that will make it worse and last longer. Tom never scratches his and the bites disappear in a few days.

I now have a bottle of Skin So Soft by Avon that I use in places prone to have no see ums. They come out at dusk and hang around water. Yes, they like pools to and are small enough to travel through screens.

This is the first I've heard of these nasty bugs being in TV. I won't be sitting outside at country clubs unless I rub the Skin So Soft on my legs before hand. Also they do bite your arms, neck and face. I have been covered head to toe with bites.

Nasty, painful little bugs. It's worth a shot to try the blow dryer ideal or vinegar. Perhaps both and remember do NOT scratch them.

Thank you everyone for your great advice. We bought the Sama today along with topical lidocaine. We looked for Absorbine Junior but couldn't find any at Walgreens or Target, checked at the health food store for something natural then came home and used the hairdryer. I wouldn't be this obsessive if I wasn't going to be either at an airport or in a plane for 7 hours tomorrow, scaring all of my fellow passengers by scratching incessantly!
By the way, in case you are wondering where no seeums come from I have the answer: THE PORTALS OF HELL!! :)
