What's with Bourbon Street Restaurant? I heard the developer pulled their lease unexpectedly.

Skip.

I know there will be political speculation, but I question the restaurant's volume. I've been there a few times with mixed results re quality (went there for the Beignets). However there never seemed to be that much business. As the renown philosopher, Yogi Berra, once said, "If people don't want to come out to the ball park, nobody's gonna stop 'em." Same thing applies to restaurants.

I think there is a more sinister reason. The lease was pulled not abandoned (like Main Street Bistro).

Like I said, there will be political speculation. After all, The Developer is Satan.

Sunday's Daily Sun had an ad stating Bourbon St. to open under new management 9/22 with additions to menu.

Also understand the original owner was several months behind in utilities payments.

Skip - Last time i checked leases can be 'pulled' for consecutive non-payment. I wouldn't call that sinsiter. Imagine the nerve of a commercial property owner to insist on on-time payments!

Shame on you for spreading such awful rumors about a wonderful family who invested ALL they have in YOUR community. Albert, Sue, Matthew (10 yrs old), Samantha (7), and little Will(4) have ALL sacrificed to make this business work here instead of leaving you with another empty shell of a building in YOUR Towne Square. They certainly could have started there business someplace a bit more forgiving to Americans trying to make a go of the American Dream(Any body remember that?), but they chose to build it here, having faith in the retirees that have been so experienced, good and gentle to them in the past. We need more community builders like them in this country and less DESTROYERS who get off on a moment of SATISFACTION in telling someone a bad story that could potentially ruin a young family's DREAMS vs. not saying anything until they verify the information or offer advice or maybe even a helping hand!
To set the record straight, Bourbon St. is Better Than Ever! New GM, new Menu, New Attitude and Service Service Service! Not behind on rent, and not behind on utilities(notice they are still open with lights, food, drinks, fun and FREE live Entertainment).
In my heart I still believe in YOU, give them another shot(remember when you needed another chance?). The Villages Leasing company believes in them, I know you will believe in them again too.

Can you tell us WHY exactly there is a new GM. There are a few rumors going around about that subject but I am only asking questions, not spreading bad rumors. Your patrons, me among them, are still behind this endeavor.

I will give it one more try one of these days. Last time I was there there was fighting--verbal but getting close to physical, the food was not real good and the cost of food way too high. The atmosphere was not a Villages atmosphere.
I wish you luck on changing things around.

Hello again :)
Might as well address the fighting issue first. More than likely "The Brawlers" were my Ex partners who were let go in July. Unfortunately there "habits and behavior" damaged our reputation and cost me Big Time, we'll leave it at that, although I wish I could tell you all that they have done to My family, I can not. Word of advice for those entering into ANY kind of partnership, check public records, I wish I had.(I'm learning, this is our first business).
They are gone and the rebuilding has begun. We have Never had a customer fight here, unlike our neighbors, who will remain nameless(not a rumor, true) and since he recently stabbed me in the back (Hard), deserves it especially when all I've ever been to THEM is nice. Don't worry, I'm learning about FRIENDS IN BUSINESS too.
We have a wonderful new GM(general manager), his name is Hank. Hank spent 5 years in the Marines defending our country, then found his love for food. After working for Darden Restaurants(Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc), Hank successfully went to work opening up three Pinera Bread Companies! Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville (The REAL Margaritaville) snatched Hank up for the last 9 years and now he is here with us (thanks to his new baby girl). I am really looking forward to serving ALL of you again and again, and look forward to ANY constructive wisdom you would like to share with us.

Where is this place? We haven't been in TV since early February and are coming for 10 days in mid October and from BStreet Boss' post this sounds like someplace we need to check out. But beware BS Boss, we are not new to Bourbon St - as shown in the Avatar!

Al: Good to hear that you have new blood (and attitude) on your staff. We heard that the change was more "political" in nature.

We'll be in to meet "Hank" and have some Red Beans and Rice.

thanks zcaveman!

I have walked past that corner many times and never paid attention to what was there or on the the other side of the street - I was always looking to see how long the lines were at the happy hours bars in the square.

BStreet,

Thanks again for coming on to this forum and explaining what is happening with your business. I wish you the best of luck in turning things around and establishing/earning/keeping a positive reputation in this community. The number of empty storefronts and restaurants is distressing, so, I am glad to hear you are making drastic changes and plan to stay in business. I will be patronizing your business within the next couple of weeks.

Should we have said NO to entertaining 250people? That's not how I was raised, and God Bless THEM for wanting to HELP!!!!! Friendly people, staff and patrons + great food and service AGAIN!! The entertainment is a nice blend of jazz and blues with a little motown groove mixed in! We appreciate the change in the menu, now offering great selections at great prices!! The music venue was a nice surprise and we will definately be coming in often! We had dinner at Bourbon Street last night. The Bayou Shrimp Pasta was delicious! We also had the pleasure of listening to Wayne Youngblood's soulful singing/keyboards. And an added pleasure was hearing one of the original Drifters sing Under the Boardwalk plus several other songs. What a treat!!! Kudos to the owners for providing something different and most enjoyable! :coolsmiley:

Very refreshing to see a restaurant owner responding to talk of the villages commentary. I always warn owners of restauants that I like to keep their eye on this website and respond appropriately to any comments, good, bad, or ugly. I am happy that Bourbon Street is reborn and I will be supporting them. My own policy is never to post about a restaurant here or in the Gourmet Club without having eaten there at least three times.

Another great evening!! Thats about 5 times of great food and fun! The burger was GREAT! The prime rib sandwich was delicious. The music was fine, service was attentive with a smile, and Al even gave us a song from the stage. Next time I have to try a pasta dish! The steak at the next table looked GREAT, too!! Hank, thanks for the hello! I hope we have Bourbon Street for a long time! :beer3:

Everytime we go to B Street they are out of most food items I want and last week only had 1 beer on tap, with many taps displayed.....what's up with that? Then it took us 20 minutes to get something to drink with only 2 servers to be seen, finally getting our rock solid-COLD pasta. New pool tables but no beer and limited food????

Yes I am so sorry that we do not have the money to stock up with two to three weeks of inventory. We are running with inventory less than three days old and sometimes run out before next delivery arrives. This will not be the norm as your support increases and season approches. On the positive side it makes for very very fresh meals and an appreciation by our staff to protect the inventory we do have and not waist things (a problem we did have in the past, funny how God trains his people). The new "Game Room" is sponsored by a local Vending company that has supplied us with the equipment at no cost and splits any proceeds with us, they believe in what we are doing, and are Thrilled to be in The Villages. More classic "Board Walk" style Games are coming!! The Dream of a Venue that Villagers can come to and unwind, have a drink, show off a little culture to there guest and let there grandkids play some classic games, and later, dance the night away is almost a reality. Thank you, sooo much for your continued and educated support!!!!!

Bstreetboss,

I'll be relocating to TV in about a week and a half. After I get the truck unloaded I'll try to convince Rokinrobin and Ed to share an evening there with me. I'm not sure that Ed wants to be exposed to any "culture" (as you noted), though!

Bstreet Boss...

FYI..We stopped by one night a while ago to try your place and the music was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation with the staff at the front door.
I love music but I will not patronize a restaurant for dinner where I must shout at my companion. We moved on to a quieter venue..sorry.

In the bistro, OK, in the main restaurant, NO.

Hello captain 1202

I've always wondered why the music has to be THAT loud in some restaurants. Perhaps, it's because the band, DJ, or restaurant management believe that what they have to "say" is more important than the customers.

Listen boss, we love Bourbon Street!! We love the blues, drinking and dancing the night away. the only problem we have is the dance floor is way too small. Blues are so good to do swings to an you can't when the floor is so small?? Any intention to expand it at all??? Thats the only reason we don't frequent it more often because we can never dance however we certainly would love to. We wish the family success with the restaurant and keep Bobby Blackman and Smokin Torpedos coming!! They are fabulous.
