My mother sent this to me....perhaps she thinks it wil make me want to move back? :MOJE_whot::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Jeff Foxworthy
"If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36
inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will
swim by, you might live in Upstate New York.

If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights a
year because Saranac Lake is the coldest spot in the nation, and
Syracuse gets more snow than any other major city in the US, you
might live in Upstate, NY.

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from October through May, you
might live in Upstate New York .

If you get 131 inches of snow in a week and you comment that
'winter's finally here', you might live near Oswego in Upstate New
York.

If you instinctively walk like a penguin for six months out of the
year, you might live, bundled up, in Upstate New York.

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance, and they
don't work there, you might live in Upstate NY.

If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his
forehead, you might live in Upstate New York.

If you have worn shorts and a parka on the same day, you might live
in Upstate New York.

If you have had a lengthy phone conversation with someone who dialed
a wrong number, you might live in Upstate New York.”

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRUE UPSTATE NEW YORKER WHEN:

"Vacation" means going South past Syracuse for the weekend.

You measure distance in hours.

You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.

You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again.

You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard,
without flinching.

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both
unlocked.

You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend/wife knows
how to use them.

You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with
snow.

You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road
construction.

You can identify a southern or eastern accent.

Down South to you means Corning.

Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new shed.

You go out for a fish fry every Friday.

Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost.

You have more miles on your snow blower than your car.

You find 10 degrees "a little chilly." and 55 is shorts weather.

You actually understand these jokes, and you forward them to all your
Upstate New York friends and to those who used to live here and left.

That's funny.....!!
I've seen it before, but it's always good....and correct!!

I'm here now.....53 degrees outside and the leaves are turning and fall is very much in the air. All the plants are cut down, and we are preparing for winter.
I have a heavy, long sleeve flannel shirt on and jeans and hiking boots. The fireplace is all ready to go.

Today my wife and I will go to the Christmas tree farm and tag our Christmas tree, so we can easily find it in the snow when we go chop it down, always the weekend after Thanksgiving. Always a Douglas fir, always perfect.

BUT, the good news is that we will be down in our future Florida home just two weeks from today!

See ya!!! Frank D.

I was born and raised in Utica, New York. Moved to Florida years ago....I sure don't miss it.

Not long ago, a gal at the pool told me she was from upstate NY. I asked her where and she said poughkeepsie.

Since then, I always now tell folks that I am from the Northern part of the state, lest they get confused.

Hahahah! But I thought anything outside of "the City" was considered "upstate"? ;)

uujudy ~
We also referred to any location north of "The Bronx" as "Upstate". My son is at Cornell and has quickly learned to allow extra time to walk up the big hill to classes because of the black ice.
However, I must admit I do miss the changing seasons and nights by the fireplace in NY.
I still love (and miss) NY ~

No need to have a ice scraper, snow shovel or snow tires down here in The Villages. ... In Utica they are life essentials.

We lived in New Hartford, N.Y. ---very close to Utica. Isn't it funny how everyone thinks New York City is the only city in the state.

Hi Sandy, New Hartford is right next door, my cousin lives there. I always say it was a good place to grow up. Another Linda, when we were young we considered Syracuse the big time and would travel there to go out.

UUJudy and Travel..you are right! My brother gets so mad when I say he lives UPSTATE (Yonkers)...anything over any bridge is upstate when you live on LI. We live in St. Aug right now but DO miss NY; although the Villages has potential. We just like so many places!! :-)
