Allergies

In New Jersey I have Hay Fever (ragweed) from about the middle of August until the first frost (around October). Is there a Hay Fever season in Florida or can I expect to have watery eyes, scratchy throat, running nose and to sneeze year round? By the way, I am 67 so I don't think I am going to outgrow it.

I never had allergies until I moved here. I had tests that showed I am allergic to grass and trees (?). Anyway, I am taking shots that so far have done nothing to improve runny nose and scratchy eyes. Maybe I have the wrong doc.
But I also know, that wherever you move, there will be some type of allergy.

There may be hope for you yet. I'm finding my seasonal allergies are getting better as I age. And thank heavens for that, everything else has gone south.

I suffer in KY, AK, & I'm sure FL too. Years ago I used to take Contact Cold Capsules. They worked for me just fine. Then they vanished. I will live with it regardless in TV. Just get me outa KY because sometimes you gotta take the bad with the good.

Hi K2, I have good news I hope. My brother suffered very severe hay fever symptoms in northern NY all his life, he basically wrote off the month of Sept. as he was usually drugged out... But, since moving to Florida, he has had zero hay fever symptoms. Granted he's not in TV but is south of Tampa and does not even have any allergies. So hopefully you will find this as well.

I, also, had a very bad sinus condition in Los Angeles but have not had these problems here in TV at all. Good Luck!!

Thanks Kathie for the positive info. Although I really enjoyed my stay at TV for the month of January last year and am looking forward to the three months this year, I would sure not want to be having allergies while here. Although it is cold up North in Jan, Feb, and March, at least there is no allergies. If your comments are accurate, there is no reason not to make the move.

I had seasonal allergies in Illinois...and I have them here in Florida. I do think my allergies are worse down here in Florida. Try Zyrtek these seem to work for me now...I use to use Allerest and others to no vail down here. I started to use these about 2 years ago (prescrption only at that time)...Now you can purchase Zyrtek over the counter. Good luck....and yes I seem to have allergies longer since moving south, because there is not a hard freeze to kill everything off.

Mine don't seem to be nearly as bad as they were in NC.
Still occasionally sneeze in the AM, but that's about it...

For a person who never had allergies before, I've certainly been suffering this winter. I think it must be 'tree' allergies as they are ranked very high in The Daily Sun and we don't have Juniper and Oak back home. Any comments from other people with new found allergies?

Our daughter Helene who lives with us is having a lot of allergies right now. I think they are the same ones that come later in the year in Cincinnati. Tree budding etc. I didn't realize that many trees do go dormant here and releaf in the spring.

Mrs l2ride has many in Virginia and has to take constant medication. However when we are in Florida at TV she is able to stop taking them. Guess it depends on the allergy and the season, but she finds it much less there then in Virginia.

IG, I also have an allergy to grass and I get it in the spring from mid May thru June when the grass is seeding. I always though I was getting a spring cold until I went to Kentucky over Memorial Day and though I was going to die. I got back home and went to the allergy doctor and he said it was grass. He gave me a 10cc Kenalog (sp?) shot and within 3 days it was like I never has an allergy. The shot lasts about 6 weeks and that got me through the seeding season. Over the years as soon as I would feel the allergy coming on I would get to the doctor for the shot and I was good for the year. Over about 5 or 6 years I have out grown the allergy and no longer get the shot. In the spring now I might sneeze a couple of times when I am out cutting the grass but it is nothing like it use to be.
