Bartender at Canes told me that their California chicken sandwich is the best.

Ate there today. Still consider it fast food with a drive-through window. Buss your own table.

Parking lot was packed today, ad the drive-thru line very long. I'll go in April.

I ate there yesterday and was waited on hand and foot. No less than 5 employees stopped by to see if I needed anything. They bussed my table for me. Oh and a bonus, the food was free. They were walking around passing out wine and lemonade samples and free milk shakes too. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was excellent. Moist and tasty. The fries are fresh cut shoestring potatoes and very good.

That explains the packed parking lot and very long drive-thru. I couldn't imagine what was going on as they weren't scheduled to open yesterday.

Hubby and I went today for lunch as part of friends and family. I had the chicken salad with the home made ginger blueberry dressing and it was very good. It had lots of nuts and cranberries in it and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. I also had an iced tea which was also good. It was a solid cup of cold tea which wasn't watered down. Hubby had the crispy chicken tenders and fries which he also enjoyed. The fries are much better than McDonalds, in my opinion. The staff was extremely friendly (they were constantly going to the tables to see if people needed anything and cleared our garbage for us) food came out quickly, and the patio was very nice to eat on. I'm anxious to go back and try a few other selections, so for me I'll always choose PDQ over McDonalds.

The wife and I ate at a new PDQ up here in North Carolina shortly after it opened. The service was good, the prices OK and the food forgettable. If I was hungry and it was the only thing available, I'd eat it and not mind it, but we didn't find anything there that made us ever want to go out of our way to eat at it again.

For fast-food chicken, I'd rather see a Pollo Tropicale open up. We stumbled across one while going to the Miami Zoo and have made a point of eating there every time we go to that zoo or pass through Miami on the way to the Keys. Their side dishes are OK (definitely Cuban or Carribean influenced) but their lean, marinated, grilled chicken is SO much better than anybody's deep-fried chicken. We've eaten similar chicken at other chains (El Pollo Loco around Arizona or Ya-Ya's in Michigan) and wish more chains would pick up that style.

I guess I'm just tired of fast-food. During my career I've eaten as often as daily while I work and am now down to 2 days a week (I go home for lunch the other days) and trying to do it less. When the wife and I retire in a year or two to the home we bought in TV, I'm hoping to hardly ever eat fast-food.
