I live in Amelia on Harston Trail. Heard an explosion around 9PM. Power flickered and cable went out and took awhile to recycle. Power still on here. Sounded like a transformer explosion. Did not hear any sirens so don't think it was a wreck or gas explosion. Went outside and did not see anything.

We live in Charlotte and also heard explosions, several of them around 9:00 - must have been a transformer.

SECO almost always posts info about outages on their Facebook page.

"At 9:09 pm a feeder from our Lake Ella substation locked out (opened). This outage impacts 4,177 members and serves the general area south of Sumter Landing and north of 466A. The cause and location of the problem is not known yet. Field personnel are on their way."

secoenergy is their facebook name.

Does this mean we will have a population boost in nine months? ;)

That is strange, Duval, St. Charles and St. James have power outage and in Tamarind Grove our power never went out. We are directly west and within a 1/2 a mile of those areas. However we did have a loss in water pressure about that time, but is normal this morning.

A couple of observations: The pumping station for the water was probably off the same feeder that had the electrical problem. The explosions that were heard are typically fuses operating. Utilities many times use what is called an expulsion fuse, these sound like a shotgun when they operate. I am not sure I can explain multiple explosions, except that the utilities typically have schemes to automatically reclose (re-energize) facilities as many fault are temporary. Typically there are three tries at reclosing, so it is possible there was a sound associated with each of the reclosing attempts. Usually, after the third try, the facilities lockout and remain de-energized until field personnel can investigate.
Hope this helps.

The power went off here (Hemingway) but not the homes on the other side of the street. Go figure!
