We agonized for a long time whether or not getting a dog was right for us.
We adopted a puppy from a shelter and have had the following experience.

Feel tied to the house.
Potty training is a real pain in the a$$.
Walking at all hours is " " " " " " " " " "
The expense has been higher than expected.
Grooming/bathing is a constant need.
Training from chewing and barking is tiring.
Makes traveling more difficult.

The biggest revelation has been reviving the memory of past love and joy we get from being a dog owner. We are both so happy we did this again.

Agree, but wouldn't have it any other way.
