Canadian Snowbirds and Golf Cart Insurance

We went to purchase our golf cart insurance through The Villages Insurance with Foremost on 2 golf carts. Our quote was $96, but after our agent entered our Canadian Driver's Licence numbers our quote jumped to $173. We are told that it is because we are foreign drivers. Have any other Canadians experienced this jump in price just because they have a Canadian driver's licence?

Our home is insured through The Villages Insurance and our golf cart is insured with Foremost.
We are happy with our golf cart insurance rate, perhaps since we've been insured with them since 2007.

A few years back, we both decided to get a Florida driver's license, it seemed easy to do.
After a year, we let it expire, there didn't seem to be any benefit to having it.
Plus there is a question about driver's licenses when you fill out your yearly 8840 Closer Connection Form for the USA IRS.

So, do we pay more if we have a Canadian Driver's Licence ? Our quote was $96 for the year for 2 carts and 2 drivers, but it went up by $75 as soon as our agent entered our Canadian Driver's Licences. If that is common practice, then fine, but if we are being overcharged due to a mistake, then I would like to bring it to their attention and try and correct it. Are all Canadians (with Canadian Driver's Licences) being charged more than our American neighbours?

My cart insurance is through The Villages and about the same as I pay $169. At the time I was buying the cart I checked around and The Villages Insurance was pretty much in the same ballpark as the others and they had not asked me if I was a US or Canadian citizen when giving me the quotes.

The one thing I recall is there were differences in what was being covered by each different insurance. I thought The Villages had the best coverage.

Recently, I had a quote from The Villages Insurance on a car I was buying in Lake Worth. They ran the quote on my Alberta, Canada license and it came through at a great rate. To be on the safe side, I also asked quotes from Progressive and one other company. The Villages came in lowest, through Travellers Insurance.

So, I am not sure why your quote suddenly went up by $75, not unless there was a mistake in what was input in order to determine the quote.

We are $86 for one cart, was the $96 per cart then a discount for having two. I would worry about a $96 for two carts

It is all apples and oranges unless you have the exact same coverages and liability amounts when you are comparing the costs.

You can have medical coverages or not, liability amounts can vary infinitely, you can have uninsured coverage or not, so it is important to know what coverages you have included in any rate and not just the cost of the policy..

And that's why I would worry bout $96 for two carts.
