I booked a lifestyle visit for November 4 - November. Might be interesting, since I dob't have a driver's licence they wouldn't let me reserve a golf cart. They told me I'd have to wait until I get there to see if I can rent. I may be doing a lot of walking.

Yes. They did require my driver's license number when I reserved a golf cart for my lifestyle preview visit in July. My wife doesn't have a drivers license but I do, so I just gave them my number.

I hope things work out OK for you because TV is a big place and you really do need some transportation to get around and see things.

Do you need a driver's license to drive a cart in TV? Check with a supervisor at Lifestyle Visits. Maybe you could leave a credit card as security. I don't live at TV yet, but I think that there is more than one place to get a golf cart that you could rent. I would call around. TV is one BIG place!

Have a great visit!

You don't need a driver's license to drive a golf cart in TV. However, the lifestyle preview program (which books thru The Villages Golf Cars) does require a driver's license. I didn't ask why but it might be for insurance purposes.

Thanks Niles, you answered two questions. I would still call around and maybe a rental place would have insurance available like rental car companies.

I would think LT should be able to get a golf cart someplace. I certainly wouldn't give up until I had called around.

What identification do you use to fly? My daughter who does not drive carries an identification card issued by the bureau of motor vehicles here in Ohio that requires all the things you might expect; birth certificate, Social Security number etc.

This is probably a very blonde reply. Sorry. Just am sipping my first coffee of the morning. MMmm good!

Perhaps a passport would do if you have one.

This is the off-topic part. We were in Maine several years ago and were eating in a fairly nice restaurant there. A group of tourists from Ireland were in there and wanted to order drinks. The waitress told them they'd have to show a driver's license and pointed to a sign on the wall. They offered their passports, but she said again that they'd have to have a driver's license. They finally got up in disgust and left. The point is that sometimes there's no common sense in "rules."

I do have a state ID and passport, more to the point I have a credit. On reflection I think they are just trying to make sure nobody takes off with one of their carts. I really don't consider it an unreasonable request, just an unexpected inconvenience.

I would agree with Niels that it may have something to do with insurance.

Call Jim Followell his cell phone # is 317-258-1241. Jim rents carts in The Villages. I don't know if he requires a drivers license or not but it is worth the call. You will like his carts better than the ones that The Villages rent. His carts have side curtains and are quicker than The Villages rental carts. If you rent one of his carts you will chuckle when the people in The Villages rental carts wave you by.

Like your daughter, my wife uses her official ID that was issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Most states now issue these ID cards to non-drivers.

The golf cart from TV that I rented in July did come equipped with side curtains. That came in very handy because it poured raining several times when we out driving around.
