:a040: :a040: I found the info on the Halloween Ball on the Virginia Trace Website under ticket sales. It is called the Masquerade Ball and is taking place at the Savannah Center starting at 7:00 p.m. (costumes optional). BYOB and snacks. Tickets are $15.00 for residents and $20.00 for non-residents.

$15? BYOB and snacks...costumes optional....might as well go to the square where it is FREE....and can get 2 for 1 before 7.....in home in bed by 8pm....

WHERE does the money go??

Perhaps I should have a party at my place....$5 BYOB and snacks...costumes not needed...just bring money, food and drinks!

I am a little confused....perhaps there will be GREAT entertainment....

:confused::confused::confused:

Sometimes cost isn't important if you are with friends. $15.00 even with byob and snacks is a cheap evening of entertainment when you are retired and want to spend an evening out.

Who knows...they may have good dancing music! But, if they don't...what price can you put on a night out with nothing else to do?

Don't be so quick to judge others choice for entertainment!

I wasn't so much as judging as I was asking....retired or not....$15 is a lot for a party that provides nothing other than a place....this is my opinion....

I would like to see that perhaps they would provide a bar (1/2 price drinks ofcourse) and entertainment....or contests or the like.....

I do not pass judgement on others for how anyone wants to spend their money and time (and I know most here have a lot to do instead of "nothing else"....I would just assume not pay money unless there was something exciting and inviting going on!)

We went last year and they use the money to give for the best costume, worst, etc. The band alone is worth more than the $15.00 that they charge. It had 30 or 40 members in the Swing band if not more as we were not counting~~~~~~Just dance, dance. There were some great costumes and alot of fun.:pepper2::pepper2:
Try and have a PMA on different events as people do work very hard to make the plans and work setting it up. If we were going to be back in time we would love to go again but we are waiting for a new Grandchild to enter this crazy world. The squares cannot compare to this M.Ball!:coolsmiley:

$15 for a place and good music...sounds like a bargain to me!

I didn't feel Cassie was being judgmental, she was just her usual "kidding" self. Also she was asking some questions. Her point, I believe, was, what do you get for $15? I think that's a reasonable question and Time for Tee has provided some very good answers.

Hopefully, Cassie, you will join in on the fun, whether its the Halloween Caravan or the Halloween Ball, or the square. I know you'll have a good time wherever you go.

Non judgmental? Sounds to me like someone is judging what a night out is worth to some.

Okay Folks,

Just stumbled upon this. I play trumpet in the Swing Band. So much I could say. #1 is that the Swing Band is the best by far in the area for dancing and the price of a ticket.
If you would like a sample of our fare, c'mon by Mulberry Rec Center any Thursday afternoon between 2:30 and 4:30PM. That's when we practice and it's free seating and listening.
Someone asked about $15 for tickets. That is correct. The monies go for the rental of the Savannah Center for that night and to help defray the cost of purchasing new music for other productions put on by the Swing Band. Plus also the purchasing of door prizes, et al. One other thing, someone also mentioned going to the square for "Free" music. That music is not free folks. Those people who perform there are professional musicians. They DO get paid to perform. Their monies come out of the amenities fund. So in reality, it is NOT "Free".
Every member of the Swing Band is a village resident and most play in more than one group. Concert Band, New Horizons Band, Big Band, Dixieland Band
plus some are in the pit band for the variety shows which also are held at the Savannah Center. A few still play professionally with other groups.
The price of these dances have remained the same for 3-4 years now. And at $15 a couple, that's really only $7.50 apiece for 2-3 hours of good
entertainment, good music and a great time to spend with your friends.
If your skeptical, c'mon by the Mulberry Rec Center any Thursday afternoon and take a listen. We like visitors. No charge, just a bit of your time. Who knows, you might want to spend the entire two hours there.

Bright....I am not sure if you were having a bad night or if you just don't like me in general....not that I can change either...but it is quite clear that you were aggravated by this post. So I am sorry you felt that way...however

Kathie is right...I was asking questions....no $15 BYOB, BYOSnacks and costumes optional sounded down right boring to me! Now that someone has actually informed us of what entertainment will be there...where the money goes...(contests) and how much fun it has been in the past....well NOW it sounds just FABULOUS!

For goodness sake!! I am not so naive as to think that TV's would host a party at Savannah and not go all out! My word!!

I was truly being sarcastic and for whatever reason you took it very personally....again I am sorry YOU felt that way....but I can not control your feelings.

Thank you to all that have contributed information to this thread in regards to the MBall....much appreciated.

Hello Everyone,

Seems in my haste to have folks come over to Mulberry Rec Center "any Thursday" afternoon, I forgot about Oct 23rd. No Swing/Dance Band practice on that date due to the Villages Band Concert that same evening. Since 95% of the Swing/Dance group also play in the Concert Band, we need to save our "chops" for the concert.
But any other Thursday afternoon (2:30-4:30) at Mulberry will guarantee you some toe-tapping, finger-snapping music for a couple hours. Even though it is only a practice.
Kathi and others, look forward to your reactions as we get to playing.

:welcome:

Hello Again,

If anyone is interested in the BOTV (Bands of the Villages), you can go to our website
( vlgs-bands.home.comcast.net) or check out the Rec News in Thursday's "Sun". The website will tell you about our groups (including the Swing Band) and also has some photos.
It also lists upcoming musical performances in the Villages by each group.
