Congressman Donald Young, a Republican who is Alaska's only representative in the House of Representatives voted No to the financial rescue proposal on Monday. But now that there's some momentum for the ultimate passage of the legislation, Representative Young decided to extract some good out this thing other than just the provisions of the financial rescue. In Section 503 of the revised bill, a provision has been added at Representative Young's request that will lower the excise tax on wooden arrows (yes, like in bows and arrows). Reportedly, the "arrow amendment" was drafted for Representative Young by a lobbyist for a sporting goods manufacturer. Representative Young has agreed to vote Yes on he re-vote if his amendment is included in the bill.

I'm sure there are probably some Democratic congressmen who are "piling on" this bill, as well. But if there was ever an example of someone who was lining his pockets when he should be considering the resolution of a national crisis, this is it.

Tom Friedman of the New York Times was right when he wrote in today's column, "I’ve always believed that America’s government was a unique political system — one designed by geniuses so that it could be run by idiots. I was wrong. No system can be smart enough to survive this level of incompetence and recklessness by the people charged to run it.

When the Senate's bill gets posted, just see how many sweetheart pieces of legislation are tacked into the bill, most of which will have nothing to do with the basic bill. It's sinful.

alluding "some" Dems or Repubs may be piling onto this bill.
Where have you been hiding? It is standard practice.
What do you think takes so long? The bill's initial intention....no way...earmarks/pork. It is the way the sludge speed process works.
A better use of the word some might be....some may not be piling on....but I doubt it.

"Senators attached a provision repealing a 39-cent excise tax on wooden arrows designed for children to an historic $700 billion bank rescue that is likely to pass tonight. The provision, originally proposed by Oregon senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith, will save manufacturers such as Rose City Archery in Myrtle Point, Oregon, about $200,000 a year."

In order to make a point I will add that the two senators mentioned are split between the parties..one Dem one Rep.....

WHy is the point their party may I ask...why could this story not have been posted as disgust with congress instead of making it political UNLESS you feel that one party is the only one guilty !

That is disgusting. What is worse is the way they put this junk in critical bills and think nothing of it. There is no shame. We sit in impotent rage and they know we can't and won't do a thing. As I have said before, don't vote for your incumbent, but I want to vote for mine. That is how these craven buffoons keep their exalted positions.

From the President to both candidates for President and throughout the entire congress they have lived DOWN to my expectations during this time.

Bucco, you either read too fast or you don't comprehend all the words you do read. Let me reference something I said in the original post that you apparently didn't understand...

I'm sure there are probably some Democratic congressmen who are "piling on" this bill, as well.

Then I quoted Tom Friedman's criticism of the entire elected government and said I agreed. You however, following your speed reading approach, somehow interpreted these clear words as a partisan message opposing your political views.

Next time I'll try to make my messages simpler and more to the point with fewer big words and long sentences. All I'd ask of you is to read slower and see if you can understand without trying to apply your own political spin. Better yet, when you see my posts, why not just avoid reading them. They seem to upset you too much. I'll do the same for you.

Your sarcasm below aside...

In your initial thread post you mentioned ONLY ONE PERSON BY NAME and took an entire paragraph; it was the centerpiece of your post. I believe there were 3 sentences that followed the description of this particular congressman.

NOW..understand I do not defend this man in anyway...I just wondered how all the other stuff that was readily available was not the subject of your critcism, and the only thing I asked was why you did not mention the Democrats by name,

Seems to me my question was clear as a bell and you understood it, but I dont think it deserved your sarcasm...I understood....I posted about BOTH parties and if you are upset with congress then SAY IT....dont spin it one way or another.

If you are going to get upset and police my posts, then please do the same for those who routinely make the personal comments....or is that ok as long as you agree with their politics ????????

I read on the CNN site...or MSNBC that it's now up to 800-billion due to all the projected add-on's.

I agree term limits lets vote them all out. No lobbyist allowed and no pork barrel projects. Get back to the real business of government.

It is a shame that posters cannot make their arguments without being sarcastic and giving other posters a hard time. Just because someone doesn't think the way you do doesn't mean they are dumb, slow or ignorant of the issue. Juvenile!, so tacky and uncalled for. This seems to be an ongoing thing by the same posters over and over. What gives here.....

"Juvenile, so tacky and uncalled for." This isn't sarcasm or name calling? Oops! People in glass houses . . . ;)

Who the heck is Linda??

Anyway after reading these posts VERY slowly and over again several times....it seems some of us may have just mis-understood each others posts....

Kahuna...I got to say that when I FIRST read your post....I wondered the same thing...thought to myself...well why is he saying that...but then realized you were just covering yourself....so it didn't look like you were just slamming a Republican....so I thought...nice save Kahuna....I guess next time find one from each side...we all know there are probably lots on both!! Keep reading Bucco's posts....they are usually.....ahem.....usally pretty good...;) ! Sometimes he even agrees with you.... :MOJE_whot:

Anyway....just wanted to point out that it might have been easy to mis- understand....I know I did at first....

Thanks Cassie (I think) :).........

I am so disgusted this morning that this Senate not only passed the bill but then to shove it up all our noses added all this pork. Any american, whether for or against the bail out, should be totally disgusted. How could you call this such an important time in American history while adding this stuff to the bill. You would think that common sense alone would prevent that !

Kudos to the 15 Republicans and 9 Democrats and 1 Independent who voted NO !

To Don H:

Read Niel Boortz' book on Fair Tax. Taxes levied on corporations are always passed on to it's consumers. In essence, corporations do not pay tax. This often causes higher taxed US-made products to cost more than the same foreign-made product. Besides lower labor costs and less safety regulation, environmental controls, etc., our often higher taxes give US consumers yet another reason to buy from places like China.

I don't think you'll ever see term limits at the federal level. After all...look who would have to vote on it.

When the nausea subsides and I reach down to pick up my shattered dreams
I wonder if this is just a nightmare.

The senate passed this abortion of a bill and the Dow is down 223 points at 11AM.

Now they can go on vacation again feeling secure in the knowledge that they shafted us deeply and without love.

Oh, but we can be excited that tonight we can catch the debate between Sarah the flute player and Joe (no inner voice) Biden and all will be well.

Is it problem if I take Prozac and Viagra at the same time?
