Things To Think About When Moving To The Villages
Last Updated 10/01/2008

This is my occasional post of things to think about when moving to the Villages. It is mostly for the new TOTV subscribers that might have missed the original post.

After I moved here, I compiled a list of things to keep in mind when moving to the Villages. I hope these help. Most of these are strictly my thoughts and experiences and can be considered, rejected, or talked over with others that moved to the Villages. Please check with the sales reps, neighbors, insurance reps, financial advisers, etc before making any decisions based on these items.

This information is to help you when you move. They have been helpful to friends and many members of TOTV that have moved to the Villages. I do not personally endorse any companies that I mention in this document. How is that for taking the fifth!

After I first posted this list, I received input from many TOTV members. I have added their input to my original list. My thanks to them for their input. After reading some of the posts in other areas, I sensed some confusion so I have added info about amenity fees, bonds and property taxes. I continue to update the list when I see new posts that contain topics that need covering. If you saved or printed the list, I would suggest that you do the same for the revised list.

I have changed the format of the list. I have tried to put it in order by categories. I hope it makes for easier reading. New input or rebuttal is appreciated.

Note: I had to move the list to my personal web site because I exceeded the 20,000 character limit on TOTV. If you want to print this document, please use your browser print facility.

Please go to http://users.thevillages.net/wprovencher/villagenotes.htm to see the list.

If you have any problems please send me a PM.

Thanks,
Z

Fabulous post z, this is a valuable source of information. One comment (and a minor one at that), I'd heard that Comcast is offering good prices on bundled services, I think they call it triple play and double play. Great job keeping this updated and making it available for all to use....GN

Great job as always. As I previously mentioned, I like the new format.

I see you've added the new information on obtaining a Florida driver's license for the first time that was published in the article in today's Villages Daily Sun paper.

I see you've added the new information on obtaining a Florida driver's license for the first time that was published in the article in today's Villages Daily Sun paper.

The drivers license information had been mentioned in an earlier article in the Daily Sun and the Orlando Sentinel. I try to keep up with the info and post it when I do the updates.

I think that I did a separate post of this a while back. When we switched to the new site, I think a lot of links were lost.

But i am not complaining!!

One thing that I did not mentioned is that as of October 1, 2008, you can only get one drivers license renewal through the mail. On the second one you need to go to the license bureau. Since I have gotten more handsome, I hope I get a new picture. :MOJE_whot:

When I renewed my New York State License (we have had eight year licenses for quite a while) they gave me the option of whether or not I wanted a new picture taken. I told them yes because I want my picture to look like me. Part of my job duties at work occasionally involve disaster response activities and it makes it a lot easier to gain access to secure sites if you actually look somewhat like the picture on your license.

Can't say I look any more handsome :)

I notice some posts are made "sticky" or whatever....why not this valuable piece of information?

I am working with one of the Talk Hosts on making it a sticky post.

Yes. This post definitely needs to be a sticky post. I'm surprised how often I hunt for it to find a piece of information. I save a copy in a Word file but having the most recent update at hand ensures current information.
