She is so out of her league. As a Republican, I am disgusted that John McCain chose her as a running mate. There were other highly qualified women he could have tapped. They both remind me of the old saying "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with BS." I had another Repub buddy say to me "Hey, if the call comes at 3 AM, who do you want to be in bed with, Palin or Biden?" I replied "Biden. I'm not voting with my *****."

I actually watched this and found no fault at all with what she said, not at all. I, also, am a believer in states rights...and she and Sen Biden agreed on an inherent right to privacy. Please share with what view of hers you didnt like or found dumb enough to mock ?
She surely trying to sidestep the question on what decision she didnt like and since she explained early on her stand on that.....it was an obvious answer to give !

Just give me a quote or fact that makes you feel like she should be mocked is all I ask ???
Was it the way she said it or the words or what ???? Sen Biden certainly LOOKS more credible I will give you that, and is surely more smooth but what did she say that you find so offensive ?

Bucco....whether one feels she is ready to take this position on or not...even if she was given Nobel prize or deemed a genious....she honestly does not sound it! Perhaps you are more forgiving...therefor a better person....BUT!
I don't know if it is her accent...her facial expressions....or her "uh's" and "and's"...a pet peeve of mine....
I listen to her and I have even closed my eyes to listen....there is just something not right. Most of the time I don't even think what she has said actually answers the question...but more or less just repeats it.
This is atleast my issue...for a so called smart woman...for a so called educated woman running for VP of the United States of America....scary to me!! I can't imagine her having conversations with other world leaders...I honestly picture her at a bar or diner....
I KNOW THIS IS SO HORRIBLE OF ME....AND PROBABLY CLOSED MINDED...BUT THIS IS HOW I FEEL! CAN'T HELP IT...I am sorry if it upsets you....but I am just being honest.

No...a lot of folks make decisions that way..not terrible. I try to listen to what they say...Sen Biden is INFAMOUS for making dumb statements but he says them smoothly and if he actually knew what he was talking about thus he gets very little flak ! I am not making fun of him...it is a well documented fact what I am saying so maybe it is her appearance.
What has not helped is the daily dose of mockery of her....that would naturally be in everyones mind and when you see her you see Tina Fey or someone else making fun.
Listen, I certainly would have wished for another choice here but I have not seen what those who ridicule her see....If we were making fun of Sen Obama's ears, we would be racists....if we made fun of Sen Biden's many many mispeaks we would be said to not have respect yet we can tear apart the Governor of a state and it seems to be ok....we can rip her family and it is ok....we cannot mention ACORN or Bill Ayers, or just about anything that Sen Obama has done in the past but we are greeted with videos of a Governor playing the flute in a beauty contest on the day she is to debate in the VP debate....that seems to be ok...I think you get my point but I could go on.

Hi Bucco,
I should have enough good sense to just stay out of this, but oh what the heck. . .
I am a front end of the boom boomer.
I am a woman.
I have been educated.
I have been liberated.
I could be best described politically as a moderate Republican.
I am the one being mocked.

Well Boomer, I have no idea how she will do in the debates but since she was named I have been amazed, embarrassed, angry, at times amused, but mostly disappointed in the constant barrage of PERSONAL attacks which never ever are leveled at a man. Take Sen Obama.....there are no questions about his background as with hers.....there is no disection of his youth as with hers (actually his youth is excused)......there is not even an examination of his time in the Illinois senate was with her years as mayor and Governor.
I dont know why.....sexism...maybe.....I just dont know.
Hang in there...as I always tell my wife, you gals did not need to be liberated...you have controlled us all for many many years :)

You would think she would know Bowers v. Hardwick that was in 2003. Or she could have said the Texas anti sodomy law either would have worked.

Bucco,
A couple of weeks ago, somewhere in all this heap of political posts, I wrote something about how I felt when John McCain picked her. I said that I felt like he had just slapped me right across the face. And I also said that I believed this to be just like an arranged marriage, arranged for the big, fat dowry.
In that post, I asked the question, "Where did that brave man go?" I honestly thought at the time that he had been bullied into it. That confused me. But now I have to wonder if he did it because he wanted to, in order to bring in that far right knee jerk reacting vote because he thought that would win it. And, Bucco, I cannot get this old Boomer head around either one of those explanations. But either way, my moderate Republican self was left out in the cold.
And in another post, very long ago, long before the pick, I wrote about how I hoped he would not cave to the far, far, off the charts, far right. C'mon, who were they going to vote for? Obama?
And call him a maverick all you want, but this one showed him differently. What was he thinking? I still do not know. But I do know that he was not thinking about me.
And I also know that I am truly a pretty nice lady. And I actually have begun to feel a little sorry for her. And I have to wonder how she really feels now.
But that does not make me any less angry at what John McCain did to me. He caved or pandered to the far, far right with this choice. And even though, I feel a little sorry for her, I know that I probably should not. But you know what else, I really am pretty weary of the pity party for her. So I think I will just go throw a pity party for myself because I honestly am completely lost on this one.
And don't you have to wonder if he were making his choice today if it would be different. Our world has changed a lot in the last week. Roe v. Wade should not even be getting air time.

You make many valid points.....I do however wonder where you saw a pity party for her :) Seems pretty much the reverse to me, but whatever.
Listen, as I said you make some good points and I am not here to defend her or Sen McCain as I have said many many times. I think this election is about the lesser of two evils, and for ME...maybe not you...but me....having and radical left wing socialist in the WH WITH a Democratic congress who we know had not a clue is just plain scary to me. Perhaps if there was a Republican congress I may feel differently. There is no way as this choice is set before me that I could do anything but support Sen McCain because despite all my disagreements with him he is not proposing what Sen Obama is proposing...he has a transparent background (we know about him) while Sen Obama has a past of a lot of shadows, NONE of which make me very comfortable at all.
I could make a case about Sen Biden and his infamous gaffes over the years but that does not seem to make any fun for folks thus we go after Gov Palin....I suppose my defending of her is more on a human level; I have said many times, I find the mocking and making fun of people whether in public life or posters on this board to be disgusting and a manifestation of the true character of the person doing it. Just to clarify, that is not aimed at you as I do not recall you ever doing such a thing.
I am scared Boomer.....and have been mocked on this fear on here...I am scared for this country. We just voted in congress to do something that is another step to socialism.....we have a congress that is controlled by not only socialists but inept ones at that.....we are about to probably elect a President historically the furtherest left we have ever done.
I know that much of this is the fault of the current President and administration...I am not as stupid as I sound sometimes, but I do not want to make this radical change SIMPLY FOR CHANGE Sake...that makes absolutely no sense to me.
All of these words to explain why I defend Gov Palin :)......I have done a lot of reading and investigating on all the candidates....their backgrounds..their associates...their idealogy...I am not easily swayed by words, smooth as they maybe, and have come to my personal conclusion. Perhaps we should go that far left and join Europe but again, my investigation shows that most socialist countries...not most...ALL...either fail or involve serious difficulty.
Ok....sorry for the venting and promise to not defend Gov Palin again...those who enjoy the personal stuff can have had it :) She will survive !

Here's one big fault Bucco. SHE DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION! She couldn't name one other Supreme Court Ruling! You don't seem to find fault with anything she says. The States should decide, Not Federal? In reality, what is the difference? It's still not giving the woman control over her own body. I believe that she thinks if she talks in circles long enough, that we'll forget what she was asked. I also don't believe this is by accident.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/02/earlyshow/main4493860.shtml
Also, this morning on CNN, Andrew Halcro, who debated Sarah Palin numerous times said that she literally told him, "It's not about facts and figures, it's about how I (Palin) connect with people. These people really don't care about anything else." hmmmmmm. That's what she thinks!

Bucco,
I think a lot of us are downright terrified right now. We are just coming at this thing from different directions.
While all those Republicans I voted for had all that power, they did nothing to address healthcare and so many other issues that everyday Americans are finding it harder and harder to face. And with their failure to address the healthcare issue, Congress is pulling the rug out from under small business.
And lobbyists have partnered with the elected in a dance with the devil that pushed so far beyond the limits of conscience that we decent people cannot begin to fathom how far this has gone -- and will go.
And it all makes me sick. And terrified. And that terror includes the knowing that I will be taxed into oblivion somehow and that all those taxes will still not do any good.
Trickle down economics somehow became the economics of an all-powerful Congress lifting its hind leg and hosing the American people like they have never been hosed before.
Oh, Bucco, you are not the Lone Ranger in that scared thing.
"Gimme gridlock," is what my dad used to always say.

I have a lot of respect for McCain, but have not been impressed by Palin from the get go. I just can't figure out why McCain picked her, when there were other more qualified candidates like Tom Ridge and Mitt Romney. If he really felt compelled to pick a woman, why not Kay Bailey Hutchison, whose experience as a senator should have made her a no-brainer if McCain wanted to break the glass ceiling. Sen. Hutchison has credentials as a foreign-policy expert which would have given her a leg up in the VP debate against Biden. Hutchinson isn’t as young and pretty as Palin, but America would be far better off if she were next in line in case McCain’s health falters. When I listen to Palin, it seems she just repeats memorized mantras and tries to string them along together, but ends up with incoherent ramblings when pressed by intense media questioning. After listening to her on the Couric interviews, I almost felt sorry for her.

Vote them all out. No more than 3 terms for a Member of the House and only one term for a Senator. Get rid of them before they learn how to milk us dry. The Founding Fathers never anticipated Congresspersons to serve 2-3-4 decades, and these folk will never vote term limits upon themselves.
Vote them all out! let's start with a fresh deck!

Why is it not a surprise that a governor doesn't know the case titles or legal cites to appellate actions? Most of the people on this board who have been taking intense positions on the bailout bill have no idea what the bill is titled, its Congressional number or where to find official information as to its content - yet they are vehement as to a position on it.
All of the legal niceties, summaries, arguments and counter-arguments are the turf of the State's Attorney General who is supposed to be the state's legal advisor to the governor.

I truly respect your position, I sincerely do. BUT why dont you find the following a nightmare...
.....the beginning of socialized medicine
.....negotiating at the highest level with terrorists and terrost countries (verified on factcheck that Sen Obama has advocated that)
.....An armed national police with as much funding as the current military
.....a Radical left wing liberal in the WH with a liberal left wing congress for at least two years doing whatever they want.
Will stop with JUST those facts....and then add Sen Biden who is infamous for his serious gaffes with facts and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time....you prefer him negotiating.
I understand your concern...I have it also, but it is not simply with ONE SINGLE CANDIDATE !

I apologize for my laziness, but I just placed the following on another string. It just seemed appropriate here.
One of the worst public speakers I ever knew was a French engineer/businessman. He would stumble over his notes, mispronounce names brutally and always looked like he was in total fear of the audience. however, behind closed doors he was without doubt the best negotiator I ever met, and rarely came away from the table (no matter how many parties were involved in the negotiation) other than with total success. Most people grossly underestimated him, and he took total advantage of their error.
This gentleman taught me a LOT many years ago (especially on how to turn perceived disadvantage into great advantage) and I will be forever in his debt. Many others are quite skilled at the technique of taking other's negative perceptions and reversing the tables. Gov. Palin seems to have mastered this skill, based on her track record versus her public persona.
