A wonderful Thanksgiving night was had by a huge crowd at Spanish Springs tonight and we had so much fun, families and friends laughing, dancing and enjoying the perfect weather..... I was sad to hear Cactus say he won't be playing in The Villages again this year. I do realize January will be here soon enough, but many of us were concerned they won't be here for the whole month of Dec.......Personally, 11 years ago, when I flew down to buy a home, Cactus Jack was on WVLG TV in the hotel and I knew we would enjoy living here...so I am asking the powers that be, please don't take away a band so many follow and love....PLEASE? Hope to see them again soon!! They are so much fun! What do you think folks???? Chime in!!

:BigApplause: I totally agree with you. We need to see them in December for sure!!! Why aren't they in the square every month. They have been around a long time and have been dedicated to the people in the Villages. Hope to see them back on stage in December and back in Katie Belles in January...

Have you contacted The Villages Entertainment Department?

We too love Cactus Jack. So sorry to hear they have not been given any performance dates for December. They have a very large following of devoted fans that love to dance and have fun. If The Villages entertainment department cares at all about what we think they will bring back this great group more frequently. Sure hope politics doesn't paly a part in this.

Cactus Jack and Rock and the Rollers are our favorite bands. Both are really something.

Cactus Jack and Rock and the Rollers are our favorite bands. Both are really something. and Uncle Bobs Rock Shop can be put atop my list! These are exemplary, extremely talented musicians.......others are good, but if I hear the same songs over and over and over, it gets old.........I want to dance to live bands, it was a big lure when I moved here. I spent 26 yrs. in restaurant work and music has always made my life joyful.....We have actually become good friends with all of these musicians and thought it would get better as The Villages grew.... I do not golf. I just want to go out to dance...I want to feel the bass, drums and lead guitar. I want to see MORE talent, not less....in 11 years it has steadily declined IMO. I know the entertainment dept. sees my posts

Catus Jack is a great band. To me, one thing that makes them different is that they get up on the stage and just play. Move from one tune to the next without a lot of "chatter" in between. I am sure we will see them again soon after the first of the year!

When the schedule comes out for the three squares in the last Sunday paper of each month I always look it over. Uncle Bob, Cactus Jack and Rocky & the Rollers usually only get one date at each square per month. If it rains, that gets eliminated. Unfortunately we get a lot of these duos, band in the box and Clark Barrios and one his five bands. Also, how can I forget, also once at each square is Scooter the DJ. I remember last New Year's Even at Brownwood we saw Cactus Jack. It was cold as hell, but we stayed for a couple of hours and they put on a great show.

I have heard 'through the grapevine' that one of my and TV's more popular bands, The Sixties, made up of TV residents, will no longer be playing in the squares because their gigs have been reduced significantly. In addition, rumor is that other multi-member 'live' bands are having dates reduced in favor of less expensive entertainers who use recorded, karaoke style, music as accompaniment/background.

As one who favors truly live entertainment provided by bands like The Sixties, UBRS, Second Slice, Cactus Jack and others, I find it concerning that there may be a cost cutting initiative of this sort in the works.

I sent an email to the POA in hopes of eliciting some feedback regarding this and identifying a source for protesting or lodging a complaint if this is more than just a rumor. I would also be interested in joining any organized effort to insure high standards for entertainment in the squares.

It does not make sense to me that the "powers that be" would put more mediocre acts in the schedule. The sales in the stores and restaurants in the squares depend greatly on who is performing that night. The one man iPad acts have no following and the squares are empty. If the squares are empty, so are the shops and restaurants.

I would think this is a no brainer for whoever does the scheduling. The squares are the life blood of The Villages. A pathetic turn out at the squares is a real disappointment to visitors, retailer, restaurants and us, the residents who are looking for a fun evening great music.

The entertainment is paid for by the merchants on the squares. I doubt the POA can alter that fact. The entertainment department was sold to the people who had run it for years three or four years ago. The developer doesn't own it now.

Good information GG.
Sorry, I erred in suggesting the OP contact The Villages Entertainment Department.
I didn't realize it is now privately owned. I apologize.

I believe that the entertainment is run by a Linda Vesco, correct me if I'm wrong. As far as I know, her husband Paul Vesco operates or manages the following bands; Paul Vesco Band, Clark Barrios with Impulse and Pulse, the Never Never Band, Prairie Junction, Dave & Nina and Earthbeat to name a few. Does anyone see a correlation between these bands and what's booked? I do, these bands probably take up a dozen dates per month. I guess Uncle Bob, Cactus Jack and Rocky need to get Paul Vesco as a manager if they want to play here more.

If that's the case, it's very unfortunate. I like Clark Barios. But when he's in so many different groups, it gets tedious.

We have some great bands, I just wish we had them in the squares more often. Bet the merchants feel the same!!
