Where is the closest landing strip for a small plane near TV?

My sister uses Leesburg.

Unless you buy a home in a fly-in community I think you are out of luck. I sold my Glasair, but I flew out of Leesburg while I had it. I did a lot of looking, but never found any other place to park it.... My wife would have been VERY unhappy living in a fly-in community.

I quickly counted 4 strips in Belleview, 4 in Leesburg, 2 in Fruitland Park, 1 in Wiersdale, and 9 in Ocala... and I think there is another up on Rt. 42 just West of TV. Some are private, some are not. Your charts should have their locations.

Thank goodness there are no active air strips near TV.
I lived a mile from a community airport where I previously lived. Many pilots and airport promoting officials were the most cocky, arrogant, egotistical, bunch of jackasses. Many pilots had no consideration for the residents down below miles from the airport with their sky jockey mentality and low flying antics. They often piloted planes that sounded 10 times worse than Harleys without mufflers - often doing inconsiderate low level flyby's over neighbors in formations with 3 or 4 other planes, thinking that the world loved their selfish hobby.
Note I said "many", not all. I'm sure there are many responsible and considerate pilots. But I know for a fact that some are totally inconsiderate jerks. But it is sure a relief living a good distance from any active airport because, sure as the sun rises, there will be a few pilots who really don't care.

Hey Mucci,
Just so you know. Nobody gets angrier at those "few" irresponsible pilots than the "many" responsible pilots. I firmly believe that the love of flying is absolutely born. I have honestly wondered if there is a gene that is coded for it. And if someone who wants so much to fly gets to fly, it is truly a dream come true. And those who love flying do not want to see it ruined for them by a few. A very few. You know how that goes. There are always a few who threaten and often destroy so many things.
So Mucci, please cut pilots a little slack. OK. That sure is a wide brush you are painting with. "Egotistical"? "Jackasses"? Oh my, Mucci. A few? Sure. Like everything else. But not any of the pilots I know.
Well, it is getting close to midnight and I have made a rule for myself to never again type after midnight. That is when I get into trouble.

Mucci,
That airport was there (Destin) long before you bought your house. So was the Air Force Base. In fact both were there long before your subdivision was created. When you buy next to an airport, guess what... there will be noise.

That airport was there (Destin) long before you bought your house.
It's interesting to note that of all the places I've previously lived...
Brockton, MA 1946-49 * Fort Lauderdale 1950-66 * No. Virginia/Bailey's Crossroads 1967-69 * North Lauderdale 1970-72 * Coconut Creek 1973-87 * St. Louis 1988-89 * Woodbridge, VA 1990-96; Manassas, VA 1997-98 * Leesburg, VA 1999-2000 * Destin, FL 2001-08 * The Villages - Amelia
...you would guess Destin to be the problem airport. You must know its' reputation. Yet you defend it?
In fact both were there long before your subdivision was created. When you buy next to an airport, guess what... there will be noise.
The earliest adjacent subdivisions were approved by the County prior to the existence of the airport.
The point is the airport has grown to an incompatible proportion SINCE that time, with the number of flights (low flying inconsiderate jackasses included) becoming many multiples of what it was 20years ago.
The airport has grown to excessive size in the wrong spot. It has been growing SINCE the population around it was established.
The arrogant few who believe the pilots have every right to fly however they choose in that existing sensitive environment "because they were there first" is what earns the labels "arrogant" and "inconsiderate." There would be less concern for the airport having grown in size if "some of the few" who are selfishly obsessed with their hobby were more considerate. There is an airport 20 miles away where they can perform their flying gymnastics over a much smaller population.
Once again: I am ecstatic that there is no active airport near TV. :MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:
For those who love to defend aircraft noise, I know a few air force bases you might want to live next to.

Just defending Boomers pilot. If Boomer picked him he wouldn't buzz people. Cincinnati people are nice.

Yes I do, and I also know that reputation depends on who you ask. I am pretty sure those who condemn the airport are in large majority, people who live in newer neighboring subdivisions (like yours).
The earliest adjacent subdivisions were approved by the County prior to the existence of the airport.
True, but not yours. :-)

Let's see, population booms, but transportation is supposed to stand still? That makes no sense at all. And I don't know how you define "incompatible", but it probably is different from mine and good many others...As "in the eye of the beholder".
The airport has grown to excessive size in the wrong spot. It has been growing SINCE the population around it was established.
How can an airport grow in a different spot? Yes it has been growing, as the population has boomed in the entire Panhandle area. (And a lot of that growth has been moving closer and closer to the airport, eliminating previously empty ground.) That is only to be expected.
The pilots you refer to are, I am sure, the T-28 pilots, and their flights are well within the established rules of flight operations. That is neither arrogant, nor inconsiderate. They have rules of the road, just like we do on the highways and I don't think they would fly outside the legal parameters more than once. If they did, they would run afoul of the federal aviation cops (FAA) real quick.
Once again: I am ecstatic that there is no active airport near TV. :MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:
I agree! :agree:

Aircraft make noise. There is no way around that. Those who choose to live in the immediate area of an airport (or AFB) cannot expect otherwise. Buyers/Renters need to pay attention to their surroundings. After all, airports are not really inconspicuous. Due diligence isn't that difficult.

As to the original question, I looked at the Jacksonville sectional. I had an old one since our son attended Riddle. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot near The Villages other than what appear to be private airfields. Looks like Leesburg is the closest airport. Not living in TV yet I'm not sure how long it takes to drive to Leesburg's airport.

Like has been said here already, people move to new housing developments near a General Aviation airport and then start in on trying to get rid of the airport. Pilots are well aware of this growing problem.
The public is not usually aware of the positive economic impact that a GA airport brings to an area. The public who wants to get rid of an airport just wants that airport gone, even if they did know it was there when they moved in.
Pilots are under all kinds of restrictions for flight, especially aerobatic flight. And over populated areas, there is a 1000 ft. altitude minimum, above ground level. (500 feet over unpopulated areas) So even if one of the few "arrogant, selfish, egotistical pilots" really wants bad to buzz your house, FAA restrictions prohibit.
Anyway, I guess this thread got diverted and I guess I helped that to happen.
But if we are ever in TV with a club Cessna or Piper, maybe we could take a little ride over TV and take pictures. But we will not be buzzing anybody.
(Now I really will behave myself better. Last night when I responded here, it was dangerously near the midnight hour, and I have learned that when I type late (for me anyway) at night, I can sometimes cause a little trouble.)
Peace. \/

I have never complained but 1000' is that really the rule? I live in a VERY populated area and there's a farm right behind our development ( hold out I guess). There's a "crop duster" that flies about 50 feet over our roof every time it makes a pass over the field. Maybe a dozen passes and the operation takes place three or four times a year. You are saying this is against the FAA rules?

Hi livsea2,
Uh oh. I am no expert on this. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut. (fingers still)
As I understand it, there are exceptions. I would think that crop dusting would have to be an exception because of the nature of the activity, the business of farming. Also airport operations, obviously are exceptions because of takeoffs and landings.
I just got all into this last night because things are getting tougher for small airports. And because Mr. Boomer is a really nice pilot who never buzzes anybody.
And right now, I have my personal pilot standing here telling me he wants to take me to MY favorite restaurant tonight. So I am out of here. (HIS favorite restaurant involves getting into a little, tiny plane and flying to some airport someplace within about 100 miles and eating a hamburger and flying back home. There is actually a book titled "The Hundred Dollar Hamburger." But those hamburgers are getting harder to come by. The cost of avgas makes them way too expensive. And mine always had to be a cheeseburger so that made it even more costly to begin with.)

actually , the reg. is 1000 ft over the tallest obstacle under you ....As for crop spraying , You must file for permission with the FAA and you have to tell them where , and when..But its not difficult to get an OK...
For your info, their is a private air strip north of the villages called DALLAS and it stretches from hwy 42 to the forth tee of amberwood golf course ...However the trees along the east side have grown to the point that only ultra lites can use it ..........
their have been rumors that they would like to clear some trees Branch's so that they can approach over the village of amelia..........

If there should be an air strip near The Villages at least your trees are protected from any turbulence the low flying aircraft my cause.
A couple thoughts came to my mind in regards to this topic and another topic in reference to Oak Forrest. I would like to see a plane come in and buzz the tops of the many golf carts and thousands of cars using Oak Forrest as a short cut.
Better yet I would like to recommend Oak Forrest become an air strip, thus preventing vehicular traffic from using it due to being an active runway. There we go I just killed two birds with one stone and I did not ask Congress for a tax cut.
