I have an intense dislike of the blinds that are used on most sliding glass doors. Does anyone have Shoji screens instead? Is there a local vendor to order from? I might even want to use the Shoji screen to replace the closet doors in the spare bedrooms.
I'm still in the planning/dreaming stage of getting to TV, but I like to plan in advance.

Thanks "Just Susan". Yes, I had also found sources on the internet. I am hoping there is a local (to The Villages) shop that has them. I much prefer to order such items locally, just in case there's a problem.
Still hoping that a current Villager has a local source!

They sure look nice, but I have 2 issues with them.
1st, they don't seem to block the light, so you don't have the option of darkening the room. There goes daytime television watching!
2nd, I tried the price calculator in the 1st link from JustSusan and to cover my 12 ft slider would cost close to $3000. Wow!
Those vertical blinds are looking better and better.

They can be expensive, that is true but there are less expensive ways to have them Steve. Here is one:

You could also make them...not really that hard to do.

Me? Make them? I once made a three legged table that wouldn't stand up and I never heard the end of it from my wife (that was over 30 years ago)!
I am good with plumbing, electricity, sheetrock, and rough carpentry (emphasis on rough) but I'd be willing to bet my home-made shoji screens would look rough and unfinished. And besides, Mrs StevefromNY would probably collapse in a laughing fit if I mentioned I was going to try!
Thanks for the suggestion though!

Steve, if you really like the look, you may try contacting a local decorator to see what they would charge for making them. Don't know what you would like as far as the "look", but you're not limited to the rice paper. I've seen decorators on HGTV make them of rattan or fabric. With the fabric, you could have a front/back made of fabric of choice, with a light blocking material in the middle (like room darkening drape fabric). The decorator would merely have to make them, with the wood slats sourrounding them and then hang them for you from a track.
Just a thought. Let us know if you investigate this option.

You might also want to try the Woodshop. The members there will sometimes contract to repair and or make furniture pieces...who knows?
If I was there I would show you how or make them for you. I love the whole Norm Abrahms workshop idea and have my own small version of same.
When we get to TV though you will often find me at the Woodshop, hanging with the guys. Hope I won't be the only girl.

I found a place: www.homedecorators.com (I think it belongs to Home Depot) they send out a magazine called: Home decorators (what else) and in the last issue on page 52 they show sonme shoji dividers at a reazonable (?) price: 71"h x 88.5 w for $169.00, They are room dividers but it they are placed behind the sliding door it will do the trick.
