By IT, I mean the terroristic, barbaric acts toward Americans. Yesterdays mass shooting was the beginning of future things to happen to America. Whether it be a lone wolf, a couple (as it appears was yesterday) or a cell, these Islamic extremists hate Americans enough to kill us whenever they see fit. Even though we're relatively isolated from things like this here in TV (I truly hope), be aware of your surroundings and familiarize yourselves with exits of building you are in just in case the unthinkable happens. This is not a call to be alarmed, it's a call to take care of yourselves.
And to the King and Queen of TOTV, who have live here for years and years, you both realize we don't actually live under a bubble and things do happen here?

Wow! And who, pray tell, are the King and Queen of TOTV?
Can we at least get ALL of the facts before declaring yesterday's incident a terrorist attack? i do believe that his being Muslim was very likely an issue of the attack. I do believe this couple planned the attack. I'm just not sure that an underlying factor was not how he was treated in the workplace. My take would be this was an angry man who happened to be Muslim. I believe the same thing would have happened had he been Jewish, Christian or whatever. How he convinced his wife to act with him is beyond me. For now, though, I'm waiting for more information.
Yes, America is at risk of terrorist attacks, both home grown and immigrant. So is every other place in the world. Being vigilant is always wise but I really don't want to see this world or this community to be afraid just because someone is of a certain religion. That just fosters more hatred and resentment on both sides.

His majesty was just telling me this morning over his coffee that if you read back on many of the TOTV posters posts you can sense anger issues in some of them.
When we move here, we have to realize that we are no longer cops or teachers or heads of companies. We are just people. And that new people's reality is often brought with them and not the reality of AT THIS TIME a low crime area. Do not allow white hair to cloud your judgment of a person's ability to perceive the realities of life.
Now I have to go eat my tarts.

I just read online that the man had profiles on two dating sites. He had met his future wife online and traveled to Saudi Arabia earlier this year to meet her and marry. They have a 6 month old child.

Last night, I heard on Fox that a recent study of 100 mosques revealed that 80 out of the 100 preached and/or condoned jihad actions against western society. Anyone else hear that or know any of the specifics of the study?

I'm afraid it will only take one, maybe two, more of these Islamic jihadist inspired attacks here in this country before a few of our own radicals (skinheads, neonazis, outlaw gangs, or far right "patriots") start blowing up mosques. Then IT will really start to escalate.
By the way, I agree that everyone in entitled to their own opinion. But this does not make one opinion just as valid as another. Some opinions are correct and others are just wrong!

Right. Like they say, you can form your own opinion but not your own set of facts.

Sorry, but IT has been going on for over thirty years now.
Most people won't admit or don't believe it, but we are in the middle of World War 3.
It's just not the U.S that being attacked it's the entire western world. By an enemy that is not in uniform and not fighting under a flag. London Subway Bombing, Russian Airliner, and the Paris attacks are just a few recent examples of this war that started way back in the eighties with events like the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut.

Thank you for providing this link. Reading through it, it's clear that the list of incidents per year grows longer and more terrifying. Some time ago we thought, "Someday this will happen here." It has.

I also read where they had been married for three years and speculation was the Saudi trip was for training. Which makes me think of a Mark Twain saying, "If you don't read the news, you are uninformed, if you do read the news, you are misinformed". With all the prep the couple apparently done with the IED's and accumulation of ammo and firearms it looks like pure Islamic terrorism. After reading parts of the Quran, I believe ISIS is the face of Islam

Who is to decide WHAT is far afield? I believe we need to take off our gloves once in awhile and say what it is we feel and fear and believe in. Here in this country that guarantees us the freedom of speech we are getting pretty close to hog tied with political correctness.
And I so believe in rules and in being nice. Although I don't always follow the rules and am not always nice.

"IT" actually started many many years ago - most Americans don't know this (I didn't until last month):
The First Barbary War (1801–1805), also known as the Tripolitanian War and the Barbary Coast War, was the first of two Barbary Wars between the United States and the four North African Muslim states known collectively as the "Barbary States". Three of these were nominal provinces of the Ottoman Empire, but in practice autonomous: Tripoli, Algiers, and Tunis. The fourth was the independent Sultanate of Morocco.[2] The cause of the war was pirates from the Barbary States seizing American merchant ships and holding the crews for ransom, demanding the U.S. pay tribute to the Barbary rulers. United States President Thomas Jefferson refused to pay this tribute.
If you're REALLY interested there's a very long description of these events here:

In this world there are a lot of good people and a few (very few) bad people that get the headlines.
I, for one, am not afraid of a terrorist attack. I will live my life as I always have ... free.

I, for one, am not afraid of a terrorist attack. I will live my life as I always have ... free. That was a few years back. We are now facing new issues and new threats in this country. People used the Oklahoma bombing to debate the seriousness of the Tsaranov brothers attack on the Boston Marathon that killed a villager's grandson and blew the leg off his seven year old granddaughter. The bomber in Oklahoma was Christian if you want to reach for it, but not using his religion as a motive.
Today is today. I am glad you are not afraid but most people are.

I don't know what the relevance is... but, then again, I also don't know why someone brought up the Crusades a short time ago. At least nobody has blamed Halliburton or the Koch brothers... yet. Somebody other than the actual terrorists/murderers has surely got to be at fault... Tea Party maybe?

Religious terrorism has been with us always, Read -Old Testament and find the many times that the "Lord" directed that all men, women, children , dogs etc were to be put to the sword for "religious reasons".
We must fight radical religious terrorism wherever it raises its head and yes it is a war. A war against tolerant peoples and societies.
Under the right circumstances and led by charismatic demagogues this kind of fascism would arise in America.
At the present it is Islamic Radicalism that is plaguing us and we need to stamp it out without sacrificing our morals and ideals. Tomorrow who know what group will adopt the principal of infallibility and decide to cleanse the world oh heretics???
