Advantages: not responsible for maintenance, still have resident access to all amenities, owner responsible for amenity fees.

Disadvantages: owners have a tendency to sell so be prepared to move every few years, ID card is paper, which must be replaced every lease-end, many Villagers don't like renters, regardless of length of stay, owner may not be as quick to repair something as you might like.

Also, odds are you are paying as much monthly, if not more, than if you owned the property, even with a mortgage.

Agree with all of these. I will add that you cannot always find a rental for the time you wish to rent unless you preplan many months ahead.

I rented for a few years, but now into 3rd year as a snowbird. Owning is great! It is all mine... the dishes, the beds, the golf carts, etc.... Great neighbors! Come and go whenever I want. The cost yearly to maintain the home is about equal to 2 months winter rent. I am worth much more today than when I bought new.
