I looked for a previous thread about a drinking club but did not find anything, so I thought I would forge ahead.

I'm a bachelor who likes to drink in bars. In the past I have been lucky enough to have been part of large groups of guys (and gals as well) who share my interest and so have always had a group to be involved with.

I know there will be many who will not approve of my idea of a drinking club. I don't care how they feel or what they think of me for my ideas.

I would like to know if there is interest in establishing a group who might meet on various nights at various watering holes here in the villages to share our common interest?

The comments and responses should be interesting, don't you think?

To each his own; just accept the consequences and don't bad mouth the Police when you get nailed for a DUI. Or, god forbid, you run over someone after you and your bro's leave your "watering hole". Full disclosure - I arrested hundreds of DUI's in my career. :police:

A club focusing on drinking???? On the surface, doesn't sound healthy or safe.

Bad PR approach. Try watching football game club, NHL fan club, book club or trivia club, etc. Remember to recruit designated drivers though as well.

OP. According to your past posts you have been here since July of 2012. Certainly you have ascertained that a lot of folks go out drinking every night.

Now about forming a club, Would you have minutes and collect dues? Would you do that before or after you drink?

If you were in a club, would you save seats? Would one be a designated driver? How would your club work? Would there be an age cut off or a drink cut off or a uniform or a club song? Would you get sponsors from Booze manufacturers?

Inquiring minds want to know. I have a feeling I won't be welcome in this one either. I don't drink. Thank God it isn't because I am too old.

I have not drunk since law school and that was just trying to be social with the other people in Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners. When in Denver at the University of Denver Graduate School of Librarianship and Information Management a group of us would go out drinking a few times a week but this was just fruit flavored margaritas. If we were really going to get drunk we would walk to one of bars around the University of Denver. I had one night of binge drinking and never have done that again. That was around 1984. I hated losing control of myself like that and throwing up all over various Denver streets and bars.

I seldom did any drinking while we lived in Reno, Nevada and fitted in well with the people at BYU Law School at least as far as drinking habits were concerned. There could have been Mormons there that said one thing and did another but I was only there ten days or so but if Mormons need lawyers then they probably break various laws.

Try Parrotheads. They love to party and do good things while they're at it.

Otherwise, find a bar or two you like, become a regular, be friendly and you'll have your social group in no time.

There are drinking clubs around the country. Some are organized but most are as others have mentioned---sports clubs, social clubs etc. etc. There is one where "we came from" and they called it "the loser's club". No kidding! Sorry to say---it was full of people who absolutely drink too much. Is this what you have in mind?

Yeah, but all it takes is for that one time, one person, and one too many drinks, and a life could be taken, and that is not all. There is a huge domino effect, the family of the deceased suffers, and if it is a person who works to support a family, that entire family will forever suffer emotionally, as well as financially. The family of the drunk, well they too will suffer emotionally as well as financially. I guess you can tell I am against drinking, even socially, then driving anything. You may feel sober, but that breathalyzer may indicate otherwise. So, if a club like this forms, and I happen to see any of your club members leaving an establishment and drive in a golf cart, I will report it. I hope this club never gets off the ground. Think about how much that one drink to many could cost you.

BTW, I also think this person is not serious. Just in case I am wrong, I got to say how I feel.

We don't do a drinking club at the Parrot Heads & we don't want anyone who just wants to drink !! Yes, many of us drink, however, many don't drink. We raise a lot of money for charity and collect a lot of items for needy people while we party. It's called "Party With A Purpose" !

I must say, I get a little sensitive when people associate the Parrot Heads with just drinking.

At the end of the year with all the things we collect (Toys For Tots, Clothing, St. Theresa's Soup Kitchen, Items for Haven House, Caring Hands Food Bank, Ocala Forest Families, Operation Backpack, etc.)

The money we give (Hospice, Honor Flight, All One Family, Lazarus Free Medical Clinic, Boggy Creek, Helping Hands, Veterans, etc.)

The hours we give (Cleaning the Lakes and Ponds, Habitat For Humanity)

Our Scholarship program.

I could take a whole page listing the people and organizations that we help !!
We give well over $90,000 a year to charitable organizations.

Please don't list us as a drinking club !!!!!

He's not pulling my leg. I must have been out of town when they were taking up the collection.

No objection. I assume everyone will act responsible. Might call it a Social Club that meets at various bars in the community.

I am hoping to move to the Villages. I love drinking some beer to the extinct that I would be safe at driving home. I would drink like a beer or two an hour and get to meet people, preferable guys at the local golf courses or pubs in the community. I hope to find a place this fall or early winter. I guess this all depends on affordability........

Scotch clubs are very popular in other areas, but it's an expensive club.

Scotch infused with chocolate was an item Paul Giamatti shared with his TV wife on Billions. I thought drop the scotch and increase the chocolate

This is hearsay but I was just told the bars in Spanish Springs are always filled.

I really don't know or care if the OP is fishing my comments are not directed to OP but the friendly posters on this thread

You won't have any trouble finding what you mentioned. All 12 country clubs have bars within their restaurants, and most restaurants have bars. We even have 2 World of Beer locations if you like that sort of thing. You won't find $1 Natural Light draft anywhere, but I think most beers at most establishments is affordable. And most places have a happy hour. Thankfully, not all but most people here drink responsibly.

There already is a "Drinking Club". It is called AA and welcomes new members
You may want to try it if you are driven to drink alone or with many friends.
